I am playing XCOM: Enemy Within with the Long War mod which is really hard and I'm going to be going through dozens of soldiers like a meat grinder so post in here to get a soldier named after you. No When do I get a cool hat/helmet/color scheme At first I was doing it after two promotions but from here on out it won't happen until you reach Corporal status, which is also when you are granted a (game-assigned) nickname. Technically you can change nicknames but I'm not going to do it by request. How do I get cool toys and gadgets before other people do? Seniority and ranking What are the odds of me dying before the end of this? 90%+, be prepared. The longer you last and the higher your rank is, the more likely you are to survive. However, you will also be more likely to be sent on dangerous missions and you will often be sent on missions against dangerous new enemy types and technologies, and those historically have a habit of ending with most of the team being slaughtered. Also, the later you join us, the less likely you are to survive your first mission. Will I ever get to lead a mission. Maybe. It's all luck of the draw, the highest ranked soldier with no wounds or fatigue is generally chosen to lead the team, and it's not an uncommon occurrence for A Squad, B Squad, and C Squad to all be mostly unavailable when trouble breaks loose, and there have been instances of Lance Corporals and Specialists successfully leading missions. Can I see a bigger version of one of the pictures? I've started making them clickable for bigger versions but for earlier images in the thread just delete the "L" at the end of the filename for the image for the full 1920x1080 version. CURRENT LIST OF SLAIN SOLDIERS code:Aronold of Soissons is currently the highest ranked member of the squad and is CO for all BYOBCom units. Arnie also has the highest kill count, at the time of writing with 30 confirmed kills and participation in 10 missions. Arnie is the leader of A Squad Ectral is currently the second most decorated member of the team and has proven an incredibly reliable gunman with excellent accuracy. His ability to quickly eliminate big threats has completely shut down some of the toughest enemy squads we've faced yet. Ectral is the leader of B Squad Sid Vicious after leading several rookie squads to victory currently leads our C Squad and mostly takes on easier missions to rank-up our rookies. He's actually very strong himself too PSIONICS None yet GENE-MODDED SOLDIERS None yet MECH-HYBRID CYBORGS None yet SQUAD HONORS Living Shield was our first casualty, and we have named our first mechanical unit after him. His legacy lives on, and has racked up a pretty serious kill count in robotic form. Whatho scored the unit's first confirmed Muton kill, but unfortunately the mission was a failure. Widestancer and Cowabanga share the honors for first confirmed kill following deployment of BYOBCom prototype laser weaponry, simultaneously scoring reaction fire shots against a passing Floater and blowing it to bits. Blinking Beacon Nose or whatever his name is was the first guy to get impregnated by a Chryssalid, and a few turns later he died and came back as a zombie. We were able to take him down before his skin split open and a baby Chryssalid emerged from within. Sid Vicious often trips balls and accomplishes very little when I sent him in command of a mission, but somehow the rookies I sent with him always seem to do well. Operation Fallen Mist completed successfully good job y'all No we didn't blow the gently caress out of that building the aliens did. We killed them all without even using a grenade!! Everyone that went on the mission is fatigued and battle-weary and needs to rest for 4-5 days BUT no one even has a scratch on them! HEre are your standings.  Arnie apparently just doesn't give a gently caress about cover and was shooting straight through it and got 4 of our 10 kills and was promoted to Sniper.  Mighty Stalker did real good too and got 3 kills and was promoted to Medic and is probably going to be our main medic thru most the game until he dies  WMS got one kill and was promoted to Rocketeer and is going to lug around several heavy missiles and rocket launchers  Wide Stancer got a kill and was promoted to Assault (sorry bub you don't get to pick your class!)  Sid Vicious also got one kill and was promoted to Gunner and is going to lay down a lot of suppressive fire and let Wide Stancer do a lot of flanking!  Shin 42k didn't get any kills because he covered everyone's back the whole time and made sure the aliens couldn't flank us through the back of the burning bookstore so he didn't even get promoted but you're still a part of the team buddy thanks for helping + you survived. Now everyone is too tired for the next mission so I'm going to probably need 6 more names. We're researching the alien weapon fragments we collected so hopefully I can get you guys better guns ASAP and we're fortifying our base to be able to support more satellites to watch the air for UFOs. |

FUTURE POSSIBILITIES: If you're a really dang good soldier I might mix your genes with alien DNA to give you superpowers like camouflage skin or the ability to leap over tall buildings If you're a hero and you get gravely wounded I might saw off all your limbs and put you in a superman robot body with grenade launchers and pneumatic fists You will probably all die sometime but in this mod you go through soldiers like crazy so I can restart you as a lil rookie Eventually we will have 12soldiers per mission but right now it's only 6. |

We shot down our first UFO and Operation Devil's Stallion is a go. We got a bunch of fresh rookies on this mission including: Satanic Sexritual Ectral Dog Guy (it makes you use at least 2 words) Sketches Ofspain Bo Pepper Gimp Goatman and Living Shield Living Shield has really really really good accuracy scores but is a pussy bitch with no HP who will probably get terrorized a lot and I wouldn't be surprised if he panics and blasts one of you in the back at a really inopportune moment in several months |

I'm sending Satanix Sex Ritual and Gimp off by themselves opposite the direction of where I know the aliens are so that they can collect samples of alien materials from the crash site. Fingers crossed I hope you two don't run in to something you can't handle. We shot the aliens down over a billiards hall and right now everyone else is hiding behind pool tables because I don't know where the aliens are and Bo Pep thought he was superman or something and kicked his way through a window instead of using the door, so now they know we're here. |

The aliens are really smart and were using noise as a decoy to split my group up and satanic sex ritual and gimp made first contact good luck just hunker down you two I'm sending backup it's just 3 sectoids and a drone. |

 All is going well so far but holy poo poo sketches of spain this was a close one. Currently bo pep is pinned down inside a truck surrounded by 4 angry sectoids and his grenade proved ineffective. Sketches of spain distracted one of them here and either sketches or that alien are going to die next turn. Living Shield got a kill or two and is still moving towards Meld canister as planned |

Bo Pep shot the commander sectoid in the head which killed it and severed its mind meld link with the one next to sketches of spain, frying its brain and eliminating both threats. Currently Bo Pep and Gimp are chasing down the one last sectoid from that squad which keeps fleeing in to high cover, while the rest of the squad takes up positions around the downed UFO and prepares for the hardest fight we'll have yet (in Long War the outsider pilots have 10hp and regenerate 3hp per turn!) still not a single scratch on any soldier. |

Otherwise, Operation Devil's Stallion was a success Unfortunately Ectral did not get any kills and was therefore not promoted yet. No one else was even wounded. I might have a surprise for Living Shield otherwise he will come back as a new rookie. |
