Wildstar is a new action-oriented MMO that takes place on the newly discovered planet Nexus, developed by Carbine; a studio founded by 17 members of the core vanilla WoW team.
There's opposing factions, unique races, a combat system involving telegraphs (see below), a path system to point people towards the content they enjoy, player housing, and the whole thing looks like a Pixar movie.

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Combat in Wildstar is done differently from your standard MMO fare (and is one of the primary selling points of the game). It's not tab-targeting, and it's not hack n' slash; it's done through telegraphs. Wildstar's combat system gives you plenty to do. The ability to end CC prematurely, like picking up a weapon after being disarmed, breaking a tether anchor on the ground, and holding movement keys to end stuns. Dashing and rolling to get out of telegraphs that you wouldn't be able to walk out of. And most importantly, almost everything is mobile.

RAIDS

Raiding in Wildstar is a 20 and 40 man affair. Your first steps are into Genetic Archives, a 20 man raid with 2-3 tanks, 4-5 healers, and 12-14 dps. Featuring Bosses, minibosses, challenges, and Base Population (Fancy words for trash), the instances are an affair into practicing loot management. At the end of Genetic Archives, every member should have gotten 1-3 pieces of loot for a full clear.

After you tackle Genetic Archives, you get to go into the Big Boy Raid, Datascape. Datascape is a 40 man raid with x tanks, x healers, and x dps. Again, the loot is set up to give every player at least one item a run. Bosses, minibosses, challenges, and rooms-that-are-bosses await you in this Tron/Molten Core hybrid

DUNGEONS

Dungeons are 5-man instanced crawls which may be accessed through a LFG tool or by physically entering the instance. Entering a dungeon through LFG will scale your level down to the appropriate level for that dungeon. Dungeons can be set to 'veteran' mode at level 50 and offer appropriate difficulty.

BATTLEGROUNDS

Walatiki Temple is a 10v10 Capture the Flag PvP map. This map pits two teams against one another to capture Moodie Masks, with victory going to whichever team is able to collect 5 masks first. Walatiki Temple is available beginning at level 6. A twist on the common CTF game is that players are able to steal masks that the enemy has already captured, with a maximum of 3 masks on the field at any point.

Halls of the Bloodsworn is a 10v10 Dustbowl style PvP. On this map, teams are randomly assigned to Attacker and Defender, and take turns attempting to take control of three consecutive control points. The team able to capture all three points faster wins. Halls of the Bloodsworn is unlocked at level 15.

WARPLOTS

Warplots are essentially Aggressive Housing. You have a 40 man team that builds a floating sky fortress, complete with raid bosses, robot cannons, gigantic rocket launchers, and tanks used as defenses.
After building your Doom House, you slap it down in a warzone against another 40 man team, collecting resources to power your defenses while trying to invade and blow up the enemy Warplot.

WildStar Flick: Classes

WARRIOR - (TANK/DPS) - Video
For ages, warriors throughout the galaxy would slice and dice their enemies with swords, only inevitably to find themselves confronted with something uncuttable. But then someone came up with the crazy idea of hooking a blade up to a fusion accelerator. The result? A marriage made in slaughterhouse heaven. Today's power swords come equipped with ten megatons of liquid awesome hurtage. In. Your. Fist. A power sword, arm cannon, and brute force means the warrior is ready for all comers!

SPELLSLINGER - (HEALER/DPS) - Video
For centuries, the number of bullets Spellslingers could shoot per second was an infuriating bottleneck. Then, belatedly recalling that they were ambidextrous, they added a second pistol to their arsenal. The rest is exit wound history. With pistols, sigils, and agility, Spellslingers are as tough to hit as they are quick on the draw!

STALKER - (TANK/DPS) - Video
Guns may have better range and cause less muss, but where's the fun in that? Claws of every conceivable length, shape, sharpness, balance, and reflectivity give the discriminating Stalker no end of options when it comes to slicing open every artery at once. Just because you're invisible doesn't mean your opponents' innards have to be. Claws, devices and nano-skin gives Stalkers more assassination options than you can spray an artery at.

ESPER - (HEALER/DPS) - Video
While others waste time swinging clunky metal swords at you, you'll be ventilating them with an indestructible wit-sharpened stiletto forged from 100% superego! Unlike their flimsy milquetoast steel counterparts, your psy-blade projections be flung with deadly abandon among your cerebrally disadvantaged victims! Espers use psychic abilities to charge up their psyblades and projections. Brain power never felt so good!

MEDIC - (HEALER/DPS) - Video
Does shocking others "resonate" with you? If so, your aspiring inner intern will be Delighted Upon Arrival with the Awe-n-Shock Resonators Mark IX. Heal your enemies and boil your friends with last year's prize-winner for Most Excruciating Surgical Appliance! Smells like this wild-cardio just got wilder! Medics user resonators, auras, and probes to deal and heal damage. Bedside manner? MISSED THAT CLASS!

ENGINEER - (TANK/DPS) - Video
"Concealed" weapons are for grandmas! Grow a pair by grabbing LaunchCorp's Launch-O-Matic QT-Pi Ultra-Standard and fire some rocket-propelled attitude adjustment into the awe-struck face of anyone who gets in your way. Sure, the launcher's sheer power might just dislocate the joints in both your arms, but wait until you see the other guy's! Launchers, bots and exo-suits mean engineers are more than just grease monkeys: they're blood monkeys!

______________________________________________________________________________________

Much like many MMOs, the game's races are divided between two factions:

(WARRIOR/ENGINEER/STALKER/MEDIC/SPELLSLINGER/ESPER)
OUTCASTS. RENEGADES. SCRUFFY.

After centuries of wandering the Fringe in their ramshackle fleet, humans are ready to settle down on Nexus using grit, backbone, and some old-fashioned elbow grease. And if those Dominion bastards are looking for a fight? Bring it on!

(WARRIOR/ENGINEER/MEDIC)
ROCK-SKINNED. FEARLESS. HUNG OVER.

Banished from their homeworld after a bloody war with the Dominion, the Granok are a race of skull-cracking, hard-charging galactic mercenaries that have come to Nexus to kick rear end and drink beer. Not necessarily in that order.

(STALKER/SPELLSLINGER/ESPER)
SMALL. SCRAPPY. TREE-HUGGING. YIFF.

Small but scrappy, the Aurin are a race of forest dwellers whose homeworld was ravaged by the Dominion. They might be into hugging trees, but they're more than ready to bare tooth and claw to defend their new home on Nexus.

(WARRIOR/ENGINEER/STALKER/MEDIC/SPELLSLINGER)
INTELLECTUAL. MOROSE. DECOMPOSING.

Cursed with a degenerative disease after delving into the forbidden secrets of alchemy, the Mordesh have come to Nexus to find a cure. Being a space zombie can be complicated. Unleashing dark and deadly disciplines on the Dominion? Much simpler.

(WARRIOR/ENGINEER/STALKER/MEDIC/SPELLSLINGER/ESPER)
WEALTHY. DISCIPLINED. SUPERIOR.

Long ago, the Cassians were chosen by the Eldan to establish the Dominion - and they're going to make sure the pathetic vermin infesting the galaxy don't forget it. Destiny is a terribly heavy burden, and the Cassians bear it with style.

(WARRIOR/ENGINEER/STALKER/MEDIC)
CALCULATING. EFFICIENT. REMORSELESS.

Engineered by the Eldan themselves, the Mechari are a race of highly-efficient killing machines that make it their business to eliminate traitors and spies on Nexus. Sense of humor? Not one of their strong points.

(WARRIOR/STALKER/SPELLSLINGER)
SAVAGE. BLOODTHIRSTY. BRUTAL.

Forged in the heat and dust of their savage homeworld, the Draken have come to Nexus to prove they are the most badass warriors in the galaxy. Eviscerations, disembowelments, and decapitations will definitely be involved.

(ENGINEER/MEDIC/SPELLSLINGER/ESPER)
TINY. BRILLIANT. PSYCHOTIC. THE BEST.

Nearly as brilliant as they are sociopathic, the Chua are mischievous inventors who develop advanced weapons and technology for the Dominion. Science has never been more fun – or agonizing.

Adventures

Adventures are 5-man, instanced versions of open world zones that are a mini-choose-your-own-adventure games. You start with a scenario in a zone, like a prison riot, a caravan escort, etc. and you periodically choose how to continue at certain parts of the map.

For example, with the prison riot Adventure, you can choose to stop a bunch of Espers from breaking out of their cryopods, or go secure the armory from a bunch of angry Granok, etc.

Adventures are very good for experience; in the first Adventure at level 15 I managed to hit level 17 from the mob experience.

Adventure time appears to be about 20-40 minutes a run, depending on your party.

Sounds good, but what'll it cost me?

:10bux:x6. 15 bucks a month, but there's a catch. The Pricing Plan
Wildstar will have a typical subscription system, but with the added layer of the C.R.E.D.D. system, which is somewhat similar to EVE's PLEX. Players will essentially be able to earn currency in-game that they can then sell for gold to other players, allowing them to pay for time.

Tradeskills

I'm shamelessly reposting an abridged version Chief Sarcan's crafting guide because it's the most comprehensive on the internet at the moment.

WEAPONSMITH
Weaponsmithing is the art of forging weapons from metal and infusing them with Eldan circuitry. This Tradeskill is best paired with Mining.

Bring your crafting materials to a crafting table to make weapons. You drag the required items from your inventory or use the drop down menu next to the slot to complete the circuit to make a weapon. To improve, continue crafting weapons, complete work orders, obtain tradeskill achievements, and learn new schematics.

ARMORER
The Armorer forges heavy armor (Warrior and Engineer) from metal plates, then powers them with microchips and power amplifiers. This tradeskill is best paired with Mining.

Bring your crafting materials to a crafting table to make Armor. Drag the required items from your inventory or use the drop down menu next to the slot to complete the circuit to make Armor. To improve, keep crafting armor, complete work orders, tradeskill achievements, and learn new schematics.

MINING
The Miner excavates precious ores and crystals to be used by the Weaponsmith and Armorer from various mining nodes around the world. Attack the nodes (or use a Laser Pickaxe) to get ore. Each type of mining node will yield a specific type of ore. If you are lucky, you can even find some rare crystals.

Beware, sometimes mining nodes turn out to be creatures and will try and run away from you or turn into a giant wurm who will attack you. Stay alert and chase them down!

OUTFITTER
The Outfitter uses leather and bone to craft medium armor (Stalker and Medic). Power amplifiers and microchips allow the crafter to enhance the attributes on crafted items. This tradeskill is best paired with the Survivalist.

Bring your crafting materials to a crafting table to make Armor. Drag the required items from your inventory or use the drop down menu next to the slot to complete the circuit to make Armor. To improve, keep crafting armor, complete work orders, tradeskill achievements, and learn new schematics.

SURVIVALIST
The Survivalist skins leather and cuts meat from creatures. It also chops wood more efficiently than most harvesters. Survivalists collect Lumber, Leather, and Meat from tree nodes and wild beasts around the world. While anyone can obtain Lumber from Trees (by attacking the tree) and Meat form beasts in the world, Survivalists can use a Chainsaw and have a higher chance of getting more materials to harvest.

ARCHITECT
Home – a place to put up your feet, a place to hang your hat. The Architect shapes these housing items so you can do just that. This tradeskill is best paired with the Survivalist.

Architects make Harvesters, Furniture, and housing improvements using leather, cloth, lumber, relics, and omniplasm. Bring you crafting materials to a crafting table to make something. To improve, keep crafting, complete work orders, tradeskill achievements, and learn new schematics.

RELIC HUNTER
The Relic Hunter scraps Eldan technology for parts and omniplasm. This tradeskill is best paired with the Technologist and is also good with the Tailor.

Relic Hunters collect Omniplasm and Relics from various relic nodes around the world. Attack the nodes (or use a Relic Blaster) to get Omniplasm or Relics. Each type of relic node will yield a specific type of Omniplasm or Relic.

TAILOR
The Tailor uses cloth collected from humanoids to craft light armor (ESPer and Spellslinger). Microchips direct the flow of Eldan energies to enhance the armor. This tradeskill has no preferred pairing.

Bring your crafting materials to a crafting table to make Armor. Drag the required items from your inventory or use the drop down menu next to the slot to complete the circuit to make Armor. To improve, keep crafting armor, complete work orders, tradeskill achievements, and learn new schematics.

More in-depth compilation of materials needed for each tradeskill: http://wildstar.silvercircle.net/tradeskills.svg

CODEX-TRADESKILL
The Tradeskill section of the Codex is the last tab of the Codex on the right, It has three tabs that make up this area, the Schematics, Tech Tree and Talents. This can be accessed by hitting the "L" Key or clicking on a crafting station.

Schematics - This tab contains a list of known and learnable schematics for the Tradeskills and Hobbies you have active. They will have a Title Bar for each hobby and Level of Tradeskill that you know. Clicking the Title Bar will expand the list of schematics based on the filter criteria have selected at the bottom. You will then see a sub category Title Bar that groups our schematics into a Category. Clicking the Category Title Bar will expand to show you the list of Schematics in that Category. Clicking on the Schematic will now display the complete schematic information in the panel on the right.

You will now be able to see the name of the item, basic information and a Required Materials area. The numbers displayed for materials are the quantity owned on the left and amount needed on the right. If the material icon is shaded, then you do not have enough of that particular material to craft the item.

At the bottom of the information panel is the Preview Button and a Craft Button. The Preview button allows you to review the Crafting Panel without consuming materials, the Craft button takes you in to actually craft the item. The craft button will not be available unless you are at the correct type of crafting station.

Filter choices are "Show all", "Show Unlocked" and "Show Available".
Show All - Will list all schematics available to collect. For Hobbies you will see everything, for Tradeskills you will only see those available for the Tiers you have unlocked.
Show Unlocked - Shows only those schematics you can currently craft, assuming you have the materials needed.
Show Available - Shows a list of schematics you have all the materials for and can craft.

Tech Tree - This area is where you can review Tradeskill progression, achievements and the rewards. Clicking the Title Bar at the top will give you a dropdown that shows your current Tradeskill experience (Current and needed before next tier) and Tiers that are unlocked. This is also the area where you change the Tech Tree displayed in the panel.

Once you have selected the Tech Tree to review, you can now click on nodes in the tree to see what is needed to complete the node (get a pop out that shows you the amount and name of the item or items to craft) and its reward. The Reward could be a Schematic and or a Talent Point. Talent Point panels have a star on them, so they are easy to spot. Even without clicking on a node, you can see the progression count for each node you have made progress in.
Nodes with lines connecting them have to be unlocked by completing the node above it. Nodes with no lines can be crafted in any order assuming you have the schematic.

Talents - This panel is where you spend your talent points. Each tier requires a number of Talent Points before you can spend points in that Level. Level 1 needs 4 points, Level 2 needs 8 points and so on. Use your Tech Tree to determine which nodes to unlock to obtain Talent Points the quickest. Also complete the Work Orders as some of them also award Talent points.

CIRCUIT BOARD CRAFTING
To craft an item, select the schematic from your codex after you have clicked on the crafting table. Review the Required Materials and then Click “Craft” to begin crafting or “Preview” to view the grid without crafting. You will see a panel that will show a tree of ingredient spots, such as Attribute Relay Chip, Power Core and Attribute Enhancement. Various choices will need to be made for those spots that are not locked.

Click the plus to choice what to add to that spot. All spots must be full before the “Craft” button becomes available. You click the arrows next to each slot to increase the amount of that slot to be applied to the item, which also increases the power usage. Be sure to keep an eye on the Charge Meter at the bottom of the panel, an Overcharged item will not be able to be made or difficult to make depending on your proficiency. The Overcharge indicator is the circle to the right of the power bar. A check mark inside says you can attempt to craft it with the percentage of failure on the right. A red hand inside the circle will indicate that much overcharge is just not possible.

Note that the color of the slot because matching the item color to the slot will get you more mileage use of the charge (IE able to squeeze more stat for you power). The Left slot below is a green stat slot, the right is a Red slot.

Red Slots = Capacitor (Brutality, Finesse, Moxie)
Green Slot = Inductor (Insight, Grit)
Blue Slot Resistor (Tech)

If you do not have the required Power Cores or chips, you can make or gather items to salvage or purchase them from vendors or players.

COORDINATE CRAFTING
To craft an item, select the schematic from your codex. Click “Craft” to begin crafting or “Preview” to view the grid without crafting. In the top right hand corner, you can see a preview of the crafting result and below that, your additive ingredient list and its filters. Adjust the target location by selecting additives from you additive ingredients list. Try to move the target onto the variant recipes. Below that your Added Materials are displayed. Click “Craft: to make the item.

You can add up to three additives, however once added they can’t be removed, so choose wisely. Cancelling out of a craft without making the item could still cost you some materials. You will always be able to craft the basic item, non-variant item, even if you miss the variant window.

Replying from the old thread:

quote:

There's been some good discussion (buried in the past few pages of polls and server snarking) about the tank classes and their different pros and cons. Feel like I haven't seen as much discussion for the healer classes.

I'm getting the impression more and more that if you want to do serious PVP healing you roll Medic and you roll Esper for PVE and you roll spell slinger if you actually would rather DPS. Would anyone want to share their play experience with the three classes?

Last time I played arena (before the most recent patch, which nerfed pvp healing in general a lot) Esper was the best pvp healer followed very closely by Medic. Both classes have similar throughput but Esper has much better CC and longer range while it's really easy to land multi target stuns on Medic+their teammates because of their shorter ranges. Both classes can be 100% mobile with the right build.

Spellslinger healer, no one really played it. The one guy who did play it was undergeared and just got stomped every time, so not really a good gauge. It's an enigma to me and pretty much everyone else who pvped at 50 in the beta. It might be good, who knows.

Yeah you could probably do better than just copy/pasting the basic descriptions that are on every other fansite, but then again you already copy/pasted the entire OP from this pastebin where someone else was working on it so I guess we shouldn't expect too much from you.

Ah, here it is. WildStar is a fun game, but you have to understand a few things:

1) The various classes have distinct flavors.
2) If you are not feeling a particular class, don't hesitate to try another before giving up on the game.
3) Prior to about level 18, some classes feel different than they do at 18 and higher.
4) WildStar uses a hybrid system, so you can swap between being a Tanking or Healing badass and a murderous DPS without rerolling (that's a relatively exclusive or; classes are Tank/DPS or Heal/DPS).

To clarify: you can swap skills when out of combat, so try different things. AMPs have a respec cost, but those really take a while before they start influencing your play.

Also, you unlock dual spec at 15 for each of swapping between assault and support roles. It also happens to be the level when instanced content starts :monocle:

Let's talk about the real issues here. I made a human Spellslinger and your guns turn tiny and lame when you holster them.
This seems to happen to just about every race :(

You know you're having a bad day when a Cylon ambush would improve it.

I thought you could get up to 4 different AMP sets? I could be horribly confused/wrong.

I saw both "Action Set 3 Unlock" and "Action Set 4 Unlock" items on an elder gem vendor; dunno if there's another way to get them.

I...I don't think I did? Which was your house?

Y'know, if you share you character name (And have a well designed house that needs to be shared) you can always friend my Nexus characters and should Ops week allow it I can film it.

I'll give you a definite maybe.
Out of curiosity, do you guys have any insight into what the most technically demanding class is?

I really hope they one day release whatever tool they use for the flicks.

They've stated in the past that they want to release machinima tools for the game, only that the flicks are made in part with developer cheats so they can't go that way. Obviously not a priority before release, but they sounded very supportive about it too when I last read about it so there's hope.

Edit: Have a link. http://www.wildstar-online.com/en/news/uplink_analysis_machinima.php/

Edit 2: That was a mangled piece of english I spat out there. What I meant to say is that they can't release the internal tools to the players, but are rather looking for other solutions.

Potentially dumb question ahead: My client region defaults to North America every time I start it up, even though my account is EU. Anyone know how I can get this to save because having to change it every time I want to play will get old fast?

Edit: Thanks Inepta Lacerta, I think I'll do that.

Edit 2: Maybe the OP should include a list of recommended addons or something? I found the game way more enjoyable with stuff like steer installed, so maybe that would be helpful for people to try out?

Seen plenty of reports of this on the forums (and I have this problem myself), so I suspect it's simply a bug that'll be fixed before launch proper. You might want to post a me-too in the appropriate thread under the bug subforum on the official wildstar forums, though, so devs can see that it's a widespread issue.

This was the greatest day of my life. Finally I could stand on my soapbox and tell you American scum that you got exactly what you deserved.
P.S. Sorry Osama that Americans were not compassionate enough to take you in peacefully. You deserved better.
Since you can play both factions on non-pvp servers, why don't the non-pvp dom folks just play on the same server as NA-exiles? You can find some means to talk to each other and you can just pop on other characters if something interesting is happening.

Is there going to be a vanity system in Wildstar? I was going to join up just to annoy Doublestep in an MMO again, but you guys already seem to have that on lock down, so now I'm mostly interested in space cowboy Spellslinger.
