I personally don't have an issue with any of them, and my point about 40k have the same thing going on with DE and sisters stands.

The problem when talking about DE versus Ariadna is that the wytches are all clad in leather. Man, woman, it doesn't matter. With Ariadna you have all the men in military gear and the women... in whatever the hell they are wearing. There is LITERALLY A DOUBLE STANDARD TO INFINITY BASED ON GENDER.

Take a male wytch torso and give him the legs and weapons of the succubus? It's not hard to kit-bash because the design considerations between male and female models aren't drastically different.

Neither is that.

...you guys don't know very much about anime, do you?

I was just going for the cheesecake alt 40k minis. If you want anime do you mean anime influence minis, because the two games I can think of that lean heavy on the anime aesthetic are pretty tame (Anima and Relic Knights, I guess Relic knights has a few awesome riot girl biker pinup minis). If you just mean figures in general, yeah I don't think even the worst gross cheesecake stuff even approaches how creepy anime figurines get. I painted a few of those on commission once and, really, never again, not worth the money.

There actually used to be a male succubus. It was one of the unit leaders for Wyches and was one of the random ones you could get if you bought the blister for them. He's in a kind of lovely pose with a trident.

There is a big divide between convertion and kit-bashing though. It's easy to make a male succubus. It would be harder to make a female caledonian volunteer.

Conversion- taking a model, and some bits and making a new model.

Kit Bash- taking two models and making one from them,

kit-Bash is GW's term for conversions, with the implication that you get more kits and make fewer models from them.

Come over to the Death thread, as this derail is too long already.

(edit) and the Infinity range has models that don't do the girls-in-skirts thing, so you can avoid them if you really want.
As I said, I don't have a problem with it- although my Haqq guys/girls are dressed the same.

I think there's a significant enough difference between kit-bashing and converting for them to be distinct from one another.

The fact that many pieces from GW Kits are compatible with one another means that you need very little modelling skill to pull kitbashing off.

And I think it's misleading to suggest that you buy twice as much stuff to get the same number of models. GW kits come with so many extra pieces that you could kitbash stuff from the leftovers without compromising the viability of the kit.

On the infinity side of things. There are many of us who take issue with the representation of women in the hobby and pop culture media (and in media in general). It's not enough for us to just, personally, avoid these things in our own hobby. This is a systemic social issue and social change is brought about by action and conversation. Basically, it's not an issue of people not liking it. It's the fact that people think that it's wrong.

The Dark Star GT in Minnesota wrapped up today.

Tournament result: Naramyth is better than me. I had a really disappointing showing, but a good time was had.

Naramyth's buddy took best general using Khorne Demonkin. The Dogs were dominant. The guy he played in the top table was using Eldar demon summoning with a couple of Hive Tyrants and Mucolid Spores as a second detachment.

This crazy Necron knight conversion was part of the army that won best painted.

Yeah everything Chapterhouse does is dogshit, but pretty much all the other ones are good. I love Mantic games but they haven't hit their stride yet. The Polish Nazi Ork companies are pretty bad in the customer service department, but they're all super talented for some reason. Anvil, Victoria, and Zinge are all excellent companies. I don't think there are any US based ones that haven't turned into a huge scam.

There was about 50. Not too big, barely qualifies as a GT. If you can make it November, Renegade is a much better Minnesota GT.

Which ones? I've bought from puppetswar, kromlech, bitspudlo, scibor, and spellcrow and have been content to actively happy with all of their customer service. Unless you count long shipping times as being poor customer service, which I guess is fair, but personally I'm willing to give them a pass on that since they're small operations that are a little off the beaten path, commercially speaking.

I've heard of long and silent wait times with Puppets War and Bitspudio, and some quality issues with Puppets War that they've apparently worked though. I wouldn't be worried about ordering from any of them. Pj's new Cathedral is awesome.

American companies are much worse. I can't even think of a single good one, only scammers like Zuzzy and Defiance come to mind.

I recall seeing some 3rd party Warp Spiders at one point and time, but honestly there's really not that many 3rd party Eldar stuff, the miniatures are really distinct. I'd try doing a search for just Sci Fi elves or something.

I also know there is some sculptor out there who does a different eldar jetbike but he doesn't have a store or anything. Try and find it again.

I stole this list from someone else here is a huge list of 3rd party manufacturers , sorry for the long post. I haven't looked through every single one but it you want to do some sleuthing for Eldar like models maybe this is a start.

And, of course, for general giant robot needs

I'm pretty sure they still do make them just don't openly advertise selling them. Like it's not a store front just some guy's blog.

Pretty sure these are them.

I think there's also a Reddit solely dedicated to this sculptor and buying his poo poo.

The person making these was inundated after asking for the information to be drip fed. Basically a metric gently caress tonne of requests came in, people got snarky and impatient, orders stretched out to taking 6 months to deliver etc and in the end the one man operation (with a full time day job) got pretty flustered. Long story short, this is why we can't have nice things. If people had just been patient and decent when asking for information, everyone would have eventually got their goodies.

That's disappointing to hear but not surprising. I think he as well made some Eldar Jetbike models or maybe that was someone else.

At long last, Exo-Armour Scrunts are done.

With a wee little Scrunt lad wearing naught but carapace armour:

And for those who don't recall, the Scrunt that started it all - my Catachan Enginseer:

These guys own. The arms are a little lanky on the squat (:haw:) bodies, but the concept and execution totally make up for it.

Thanks - in retrospect perhaps I should have added another layer of plasticard under the feet (already added one to make them taller), but when you compare them to the actual Dwarf models they're pretty similar. Look at the Exo-Armour guy next to the carapace vet in that one picture - if both had their arms hanging limply at their sides, they'd be about the same gorilla-like proportions.
