Been offered a special unit spot. Its still pushing a cruiser, but it means a more monday-fri type schedule and some more freedom for self initiated activity. There is no promotion or pay increase associated though and the unit flexs all court, training, and overages so no OT ever. It's also not conducive to working outside OT because the schedule splits evening and night hours. Lately I have been averaging an extra 15%+ OT on top of my salary a year, which I can kiss goodbye. I'd also go from every other weekend on/off to having to work every friday night of the month guaranteed. The guy who is quitting the unit and opening a spot is mostly quitting for that reason and OT.

On the other hand it could be a good transition in to bigger and better things down the road and most of the guys I work with think I should do it because it would be nice to not be a slave to the radio. Apparently if I turn it down it will never be offered again though. What should I do goons :ohdear:.

If you can live without your OT money...take that poo poo! I stopped doing any voluntary OT a bit ago, and let me tell you guys, there's like an actual life to live out there. Did you guys know we kinda make decent money? You can actually drive those nice cars, play with the toys you've bought yourself, and spend time with your family!

Yeah I converted it especially for you guys! Isn't that sweet?

For £900 / $1500 a month you could probably pay a mortgage on a reasonably large house (3 bedroom detached). I always thought the property market in America was amazing but I guess not!

Some houses you could get around here that would cost about $1500 a month in mortgage

You're also a dirty southerner so poo poo is expensive yo

Here are some properties near me that are roughly the same price as what you're paying now;

Hahaha,I want to move to a business park.

I own mine (thanks Mummy and Daddy for the deposit, I'm a spoilt little poo poo) but in London the rent is generally the same as the Mortgage would be.

Those properties are a LOT loving nicer than my place. No way I'm going to raise a child here, I will have to move out in to the hills where I came from.

And you thought they were cute and cuddly.

What's crazy is that is actually a decent price for a 2bd in NoVA. I was paying almost $1800 for a 1bd here before we bought a house.

Our old house was a duplex/town home. 1800 sq ft, 3 bed 2.5 bath with a single car garage & decent yard. We owned it & paid ~$800 a month on the mortgage. The other half of the property was identical and rented out for 1900 a month. This was just outside of New Orleans, in a pretty nice neighborhood.

Do you yank cops get Mortgage discounts like some britcops do? Some of the London lenders will give an officer an extra 1% off the rate, which is nothing to be sneered at when most people are paying about 4%.

There was a complex here that used to do that but they stopped when they realized it was mostly married officers using their free apt as a gently caress pad

I had a friend who ended up moving into a place like that after he and his wife split. He thought it would be great as the rent was dirt-cheap. In the end, he stayed for about 3 months. It wasn't worth the constant hassle.

Got old money, could buy a dinosaur
I recently moved out of a 1 bedroom, 730sq ft apartment that I was paying $2100 a month for. Rents in Northern California are insane and I'm not even in a major city. Just a small one outside of wine country.

On a different note, during the Mass SA Outage of 2014, I somehow managed to purchase a new account (because I'm dumb.) Now I'm debating which one I want to keep. Do I continue as SrgMagnum or shed my previously law enforcing skin and become Wannabe Pirate? This might be the most difficult decision I've made since I turned in my badge.

Hezzy, one of these days I'm coming to the UK to hang with you and the other BritCops. When I do, I just want to drink in a pub and listen to you and your boys tell me cop stories with all of your Kooky Oldey Englishe talk.

Hi, Cop Goons, GIP poster here. Got a quick question for you lads, perhaps top secret info though. I use an Escort Passport 9500ix radar/laser detector and while it works awesome for K band and Ka band stuff, I've heard that you'll only get a laser warning if the Officer is actually shooting right at your car, at which time it is probably too late to slow down. I've only had two laser warning so far and they were both super close and definitely would follow that logic, but I was Hella Speeding and didn't get pulled over. So I was wondering how exactly laser works I guess, and I've never heard of Yahoo answers or google, before you ask. Cheers lads(beanie I drove through LA today and they love speed traps but does highway not use lasers there???)
