In another bit of age-related sadness, Rik Mayall has died, only 56 years old :(

I think I will have to re-watch as much Rick Mayall TV shows as possible tonight.

I have The Young Ones, Bottom (including the live shows), The New Statesman and his episodes of Blackadder queued up for the weekend.

He was absolutely one of my favorite comedians ever (especially when working with Adrian Edmondson).

I dunno.

Ade Edmondson with hair? That's a bit extreme for me.

Darn it, Flint and Tinder. I want to buy their awesome Kickstarted 10-year hoodie because it looks comfy as gently caress and I've realized that I have no jackets or sweaters or hoodies that aren't full-on winter stuff. I need something for when it's just a bit chilly out, not freezing.

But their sizing is completely whacked. Apparently, their x-large has a 36-inch arm length, which makes no sense at all. I'm not built like a drat gorilla, my jeans legs are only 32 inches.

E: Oh, it's sleeve length, measured from the back of the neck, to the shoulder and down to the wrist. Duh :downs:

A girl from my gym just posted to Facebook that she's going for a fun little run on the 27th.

From Flensburg to Viborg.

Which is ~300km by the route she's taking.

And she's aiming to do it in 35 hours, nonstop :stare:

NADA must be making GBS threads their pants big-time over Tesla and direct sales, they've just put out this piece of bullshit propaganda:

NADA bullshit posted:

Local franchised auto dealers:

1. Fiercely compete for your business and drive consumer prices down.
2. Take the side of consumers in warranty and safety recalls.
3. Create good-paying local jobs and significant tax revenue for local communities.
3. Simplify an otherwise complex car-buying experience.

Had my followup doctor visit today.

The last 3 visits, he didn't want me to exercise, do yard work, or even do anything outside on a hot day - blood pressure was sky high, even when tracking it at home.

It was still holyshit at the dr (since I'm always a nervous wreck at the dr), but my tracking at home with a decent Omron machine has it in the 130/90 area pretty consistently. Still a bit high, but he cleared me to start exercising.

Went for a jog today to celebrate, made it about half a block before I wanted to die. Still managed to do about 2 miles of alternating walking/jogging (mostly walking).

He wants to see me lose at least 5 lbs by our next visit (2 months). I promised 10. :ohdear:

e: I'm hoping to be into half-marathon shape by the end of the summer. Maybe not running the whole way, but at least completing at a decent pace.

I've only ever heard good things about the Couch-to-5K program. I'm not much of runner myself (I prefer lifting), but I've seen it work for people with basically non-existent levels of fitness.

I did Couch to 5k several years ago and it worked pretty good...Then I decided to lift a weight instead. Good program though. Also check out YLLS if you have questions on anything. The general questions thread is helpful but if you ask something addressed in the OP you'll get snarky replies.

This post makes me miss my home gym setup. I've been doing bodyweight stuff but it's just not the same.

Oh yeah, I think weightlifting or crossfit* is much better than just running, but for someone who just wants to be able to run more, C25K is great.

*At a sensible gym with a sensible trainer doing sensible programs. NOT the crazy-rear end oorah "so badass filthy few no pain no gain" bullshit that everyone rightfully criticizes.

Apparently, Taylor Momsen has a band and it certainly isn't what I was expecting. What a world we live in, where the little girl from How The Grinch Stole Christmas is an opening act for Marylin Manson.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmtbg5b7_Aw

I know it's not the most groundbreaking poo poo out there, and the director of the video needs to be shot, but it's not half bad for what it is. And she's got the voice for it, if they can turn down the generic-ness a bit, I think they've got something.

Pretty much this. Those 'discs' cost about $1500 each here and they warp pretty quickly because it turns out making a disc shaped like a drum makes it useless at dissipating heat.

Which is probably why so many of them got converted to conventional discs.
