After a couple years of fence-sitting, I'm finally buying a set of PDR tools tomorrow. Complete wild-rear end guess as to whether I'll be able to learn to do it or not, but I've wanted to learn for a long time.

Just got 4 of these today: http://www.tinydeal.com/35mm-qihoo-360-klick-quick-button-dustproof-plug-jack-plug-p-128754.html A Chinese knockoff of Pressy, but a damned useful little thing. I'd have to think that a button like this will be integrated into future phones without having to dedicate your headphone jack to it. At least it keeps debris out of the headphone jack.

Juke is in the house. Typical know-nothing owner. Stack of about 8 oil changes, switching between 10W-30 and 5W-30, because oil is oil, right? Also, she paid to have it detailed and she should have kept the money, it's loving filthy. And it has slight hail damage on the top surfaces (noticable only under harsh lighting, it'll give me a chance to try out my new PDR tools... suck it up, buttercup meatpimp). Overall, though, it's in baller good condition and it's going to take me a few days to detail. Just found out that it has a recall to replace the whole timing chain assembly. Woohoo.

BrokenKnucklez posted:I am going to smack you. Seriously, though, it's a fun little thing. 188hp turbo motor combined with CVT makes a rubberband type of acceleration that I've never felt before. Looks like an intake and exhaust give it another 15 or so horsepower, but it's already peppy. Reasons to have it that some in AI can't understand: a) wife likes the look. b) wife likes a higher seating position of suvs/mini-suvs. c) it's even more ridiculous than the 269hp in her FWD RAV4. Most importantly a).

Oh my god, I couldn't read past the part where he kept referring to delivering power to the non-driven wheels.

trouser chili posted:How do I put this? Parts are not available at non-rape prices. That is to say; Parts are not available. Those found NOS come at hate rape prices. Fortunately the UFOs on the car are actually quite new, so I just need to find someone that can turn them. It's also my understanding that the underbody tray on the v8q is an integral component of the brakes as it's designed to throw air at them and keep them cool. My car is missing the underbody tray. I might try to find a way to throw more air at the brakes. Try the ol' standby first -- multiple, hard, high-speed stops giving the brakes no time to cool down. This was the go-to solution for warping when they were newer, since everything about working on them is a jumblefuck. Also, I think someone found a later version of VAG disc brakes that basically bolt on without requiring strut assembly replacement.

I drove the Juke this weekend. The car is interesting, and would certainly make some control-freak go crazy. Take a non-linear DBW system and add in the non-linear response of a turbo'd motor. Then, just for fun, add a non-linear CVT to it and you really have to let go of control and have the car do what it's going to do. However, if you do that, it is a fun, peppy, great-in-traffic kind of car. It reminds both my wife and I of her Mini S in feel, responsiveness and fun. That's saying a lot.
