Maple Leaf posted:Not for a while, but yes. I was going to do insomnia instead but DJ Alligator trips Youtube's copyright thing. Shame, that one spot in Mosquito is pretty entertaining.

There's tournaments that involve playing sets of songs and getting your scores compared to everyone else instead of just 1v1 matches, as well.

Maple Leaf posted:Was it the original Max 300 chart, or was it the X-Special? Because Max 300's X-Special is loving garbage. Nothing makes sense; it's like they wrote it by slapping at the keyboard with a pair of wet socks. You say this like all of the X-Specials aren't utter trash. Dead End says hi. edit: Honestly don't remember if DEGRS is counted as an X-Special. Either way my point stands, screw anything that has Special at the end of the name aside from Midnight Special. edit 2: Huh, DEGRS was Supernova 2. Knew there was a reason why I never wanted to play it. TKImpulse fucked around with this message at 17:45 on Jul 30, 2014 |

Professional Razer posted:I laughed really hard when Dead End Groove Radar Special got picked during the Konami Arcade Championship 2013 finals. (The other picks were Healing-D-Vision, 888, and Maxx Unlimited X-Special.) Yeah, KAC 2013 for DDR players was a massive middle finger. I was honestly surprised by no Valkyrie Dimension, but I guess they felt they were trolling enough with the selected songs. Gotta save something for this year's event.

Professional Razer posted:I think the best part was that three of four players picked a song that has a speedup at the ending- save for Maxx Unlimited X-Special, the ending speeds up significantly faster than the rest of the song. There's two ways to approach this: either memorize the ending and play at a higher speed mod for most of the song, or play on a lower speed mod and read better at slow speeds. 888, DEGRS, and Healing-D-Vision are all known for this kind of nonsense. 888's ending isn't awful to remember, HDV's ending is bullshit no matter what speed it's at, and lol DEGRS. I didn't know FEFEMZ was the one who EXC'd True Blue, I had heard about it and pretty much went "gently caress that noise". I can't even EXC an 8 on the comparatively easier iPad port of the game

Olive Branch posted:I blame the StepMania crowd (who are the only ones who still play and buy DDR games I guess) for the rise in poor official charts, given that most custom charts are hard for the sake of being hard. I guess ITG's success with 10-13 difficulty songs started a sort of arms race where the most convoluted, difficult, and bullshit charts are the "boss songs" to beat even though a solid chart with proper artistry would be memorable. But memorable in a "ah, a good song" way, not a "this chart is utter trash and brings down the game" way. There's no home versions to buy anymore though, and the game's officially unsupported anywhere not Japan. It's less the Stepmania/ITG crowd and more that there's not a whole lot more they can do in terms of difficulty aside from overcharted arrow vomit.

Professional Razer posted:Haven't had the chance to play the arcade version but I hear a lot of people that have say it's better/easier to play than the iPad version, since there's physical feedback via the 16 buttons instead of a touchscreen. Jubeat's not really my thing in any case- I play so much better on Reflec. Huh, I'd heard the opposite w/r/t Jubeat - that bullshit patterns like the chase section in Evans/Jomanda were "easier" on touchscreen but I dunno. Speaking of Paranoia Revolution, and somewhat relevant to this thread - the ITG mines make appearances in the background video for it

Hahahahaha, Bend Your Mind doubles. The worst chart to try to play on a cabinet that was missing like, half its sensors.
