They're like, hiding out in the basement? Why? What's going on here? Why are Ethan's mom, brother and uncle such dickheads? I think the implication is that he wrote a story about a badass ghost detective investigating the murder of his entire family dying because his family kinda sucks, apart from dad and grandpa. It takes the threat of his death for Chad and Travis to actually care about him, but by then it's too late.
