I'm at the point of no return in Arc Twilight of the Spirits (not actually in the dungeon yet, grinding for money for better equipment first) and so far the biggest cliche that I was expecting to happen hasn't happened, because neither Kharg not Darc or anyone in their respective parties has learned a drat thing which is very interesting.

They have both been told that their mutual hatred for one another's people is going to wake up a bigger baddie that will kill everything, and yet the only reason the game doesn't end with a genocide, or hasn't yet, is that that bigger baddie took away the weapon they were planning on doing it with and is about to turn it on both sets of people. Every time they learn something new that should recontextualise their existence and give them something to think about, they just turn it on each other as reasons it's "Their fault!" so the whole story is just this scene from Into the Woods for 30 hours (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUb64O-BIsE), and everyone's now about to get eaten by the metaphorical giants.

I will be fair in that some characters have very genuine hang ups about one another that they shouldn't have to be expected to forgive because actual crimes were committed, but the overall picture still completely eludes them.

I'm at the point where they finally learned the lesson, because the final dungeon shuffled the parties so they were forced to fight together. They still have bad blood individually, but they've gotten over themselves enough to ignore it for the sake of their common goal. Very satisfying to have the full list of characters in one menu now.

...in that case, any chance you could start playing Dark Cloud 3, Bio?

That's basically Dragon Quest Builders TBH. Those games are practically Dark Cloud meets Minecraft as you build each town to certain characters specifications and then attract more characters as you do so.

The final attacks for some of the characters in Arc: twilight of the spirits are funny because of what they really mean, like Maru's final attacks, which are listed as "Aiming at flying enemies" and "Aiming at a big flying thing" and you'd think it would give a bonus to those types of enemies, but nope. What really happens is that Maru shoots an arrow into the air, and then the enemy gets hit by a dead bird in the first move, and a loving AIRSHIP in the second one. That's amazing.

I've started playing Sly 2: Band of Thieves for the first time as I finally found it and Sly 3 in my local CEX as they are hard to find.

Sly 2 is interesting compared to Sly 1 because in Sly 1 you were just grabbing vaguely defined Keys to unlock the areas to get to the boss, but in the second game it's refined so that the objectives are more Crackdown-style take out particular security measures, or place surveillance devices in key areas to help figure out how to break into a big location. It feels both more real and more satisfying. Also being able to find valuable Stuff around the hubs to sell for extra upgrade coins is a fun thing.

I like that in Sly 2 the varying hacking minigames have unique gimmick enemies for each level while scattering older ones sparsely enough it just makes you more careful how you deal with their gimmicks, like one level includes enemies that don't fire directly at you, but drop little green pellets that get in the way and you have to shoot them to clear the way, and then they'll drop in one and then two little red turrets so that you have to be more careful to either dodge their projectiles while herding the new enemies, or take them out while dodging the new enemies. It keeps the minigame fresh. I'm now onto the final level on the Blimp with Clock-La flying around. Also sneaking around in the TNT barrels is an amusing objective type.

Also the civil war between Neyla and The Contessa in the Tangled Web chapter was fun.
