There is a Michael Moorcock story called "Elric at the End of Time". In it, Moorcock's stupid brooding sadsack albino elf ends up falling into Moorcock's sci-fi stuff and into the far, far future. Technology has made literally everything possible, near-instantly. Everyone living there is a pathetic nerd who spends all of his or her time writing lovely poetry, acting sad and deep, changing how they look to seem cooler, making mods and reskins for the universe, and roleplaying as fantasy characters. It is the most prophetic piece of science fiction ever. The future is nerds with nothing productive left to do.
