 This is a short one because of the new content I had to add, will get a new longer one soon. 22. The miserable man and evil minded makes of all things mockery, and knows not that which he best should know, that he is not free from faults. Her Majesy Queen Silje approves the Högting's decision to enact the Midgard Empire Policy and declares to her government that in the following years she shall work on accepting all of the Crowns Subjects no matter where they live, belong or what god they worship as long as they remain loyal and swear only their fealty to none other than the Crown. In return the Crown shall also solemnly swear to protect and defend them against all enemies of the Realm and enemies of their liberties relentlessly. Of course this had its problems within the faction of Traditionalists which have been forming and organizing in response to the innovative approach the latest string of monarchs have had to try and defend their values they see under attack from the reformists growing in the various Duchies of Finland.   The Queen orders her administration to investigate and put down in detail who owns what in the land and give her a perspective of how much power the Traditionalists actually hold... The results are not encouraging as it seems like the Clergy controls thirty four percent of the land and have a lot of influence all over the realm. The clergy however see this as an aggressive act to try and come up with a way to contain their power and openly decries how this is an affront to their authority given to them by the Fylkariate.   In the Holy Roman Empire they are facing their own crisis themselves and the Emperor together with the Pope does whatever they can to try and keep the empire from falling together.  The Kingdom new policies are adopted even into the far-away colonies which results in natives slowly becoming part of the settlements in the West.   One of the many issues that Silje has to struggle with is the loans she has inherited thanks to the many wars that her predecessors fought. It is also a big source of the Clergy's power-grip on the Högting and Crown. She looks to the east where the Rus and Kiev have been using institutes called Banks to regulate or support the economy. It is quite an investment but her Majesty helps burghers of Gotland and Trelleborg to establish the Bank of Trelleborg which would have a First Deputy that would represent the Queen's interests and handle Charters written by her Administration to give the bank power by her Royal Decree. The first act of the Bank was to buy out all the loans the Crown owed making the Bank of Trelleborg the sole creditor to the Realm.  The Fylkariate's Allthing becomes filled with hostile banter when it becomes known that the province of Finland which has always been a strong supporter of the Fylkariate has become worryingly supporters of the Hávamáltrú movement making the Traditionalists losing a big power-base in the east. It is also putting pressure on the Queen as the religious divide keeps growing within the Kingdom. Her Majesty enforces the Public Worship Act which legalizes public worship of the faith of any loyal subject of the Crown.   Lithuania decides that the last pockets of their sister nation of Lietuva should finally become part of them again. The new law enacted by her Majesty has made her a beloved symbol throughout the Kingdom for the common folk. Her father gave a legal way for Thralls to escape their slavery through service to the Crown, Silje has given them all freedom of worship. The Speirdyker Follower Duchess Maria de Haro of Gascogne declares war upon the Knights of Calatrava using declaring that he is liberating his fellow Christians from the corrupt rule of the Military Order which once was their ally in driving out the Muslims from Iberia.    With the Musket becoming a more common sight on the battlefield than swords and pikes reformations are done to the Royal Armies. The Ordinary Mercenary Vapencarls are replaced by Vapencarl Musketmen who are capable on both handling muskets as well an axe and shield.   The settlement on the island known locally as Unamakik had gotten a lot of natives settling with the Scanian population and it quickly grows to a flourishing city and more colonists start flocking to the nearby islands. The First Deputy of the Treasury, Loke Lindeberg has already done great strides forward together with Her Majesty's great Administrative skills. In Finland more people convert to the new faith promising them that the only way to avoid Hel's domain is not to become Einherjar. Halvdan Neb the Gydja who started the movement often preaches that the gods do not demand much but only that you do not waste the life given to you and live up to the name that the Easterners call us, Varangians, Sworn men as it is one of the strongest messages Odin give us through the Hávamál is that there is nothing worse of a human being than one who lies and betrays.    The Fylkir dies and a new is elected by the Allthing, with the clergy being in distress because of the recent events a more militaristic noble is chosen to be the leader of the Norse faith. But Fylkir Henrik does not idle by and encourages the Traditionalist faction to give an ultimatum to Queen Silje. Extinguish the Heretical Hávamál followers and crush anyone who supports their tenets that contradict the ones given by the Fylkariates Allthing.  With England establishing a big strong colonial presence but with not much population they quickly start relying on the slave traders in Africa to fill their plantations in America.  Queen Silje and her Högting reviews the ultimatum given by His Holiness Henrik af Banner and even though many in the council supports the Traditionalist movement and Her Majesty has never been seen as one which would willingly start a war if she could avoid it being more interested in internal affairs and administration than diplomacy or military might. But she spoke against the ultimatum and might even have gone too far as she confesses her doubts on the Fylkariates mandate with "How could such a great man as my father, who gave everything of his soul to build this great nation we call home, be condemned to the dreaded halls of Hel? I refuse the very notion that the gods would spit on my fathers accomplishments because he died an old man. If that is what you shall say about my beloved father or any of my ancestors who have had the same faith, then I shall face you on the battlefield and give you the end you so dearly want for yourself."  The response from the Högting was violent with the Gleipnir Guards of the Queen having to escort her out of the Courtroom as the two sides fell upon each other....  28. Fróðr sá þykkisk, er fregna kann ok segja it sama; eyvitu leyna megu ýta synir, því er gengr um guma. Wise he is deemed who can question well, and also answer back: the sons of men can no secret make of the tidings told in their midst. The Kingdom falls into anarchy and almost the entirety of the Nobility and Clergy unite under the cry for war from Valentin Banner, the half-brother of his Holiness Fylkier Henrik I Banner. With him is also the young and ambitious Gregers af Närke from the powerful Marsvin family commanding the Swedish nobles soldiers and Gunnar Daa who commands the Fylkariate troops who were sent to support the movement. Her Majesty Queen Silje the Defender of the Crown and her Subjects stood there alone with no longer having the nobles supporting her she became powerless as the source of her troops disappeared and a lot of troops simply vanished from her command. Luckily she still has her general Halvor Urup loyal and ready to command the Royal forces.    The Royal Army led by Halvor immediately moves in to fight Greger and retake control of the Swedish nobles. The battle starts of as a disaster to the Royal forces but Halvor somehow manages to turn the tide to his favor and just barely defeats Gregers Marsvin.    Marsvin looses and flees to join with Valentin later in the south. Gunnar Daa is defeated by the Mercenary forces who were stationed in Finland. Valentin continues to advance across the sound islands closing in on our great capital.    Seeing an opportunity open up with most of the Royal Forces occupied in the North and the armies of Valentin Banner being the main concern of Queen Silje's loyal officers the current head of the Reventlow family, a young noble, sees his opportunity to try and claim the crown for himself and surprises the garrison of Trelleborg as his forces appear infront of them demanding Her Majesties unconditional surrender before his superior forces.   But it soon becomes clear that a lot of the soldiers within the Royal ranks have at some time been supplied by the noble lords they were now fighting and with the Crowns authority seemingly breaking apart all around them many of them returned home to their Lords to fight with them. The Queen's officers dismayed do their best to improve the situation and refill the ranks with troops from the Scanian heartland that were not under control of rebels. Northern Skåne, Blekinge, Halland, Småland and Götaland. This proves to be ridicilously expensive and the decision is made to abolish the Foreign Armies as the First Deputy of the Bank of Trelleborg on behalf of the Crown can not broker a deal for a loan unless they cut some expenses.  The young and inexperienced Glum panics as his scouts spot the entire Royal forces starting to surround him. He tries to move out of the way, away from Trelleborg. But commander Halvor Urup are fully aware of the maneuver and engages him in Halland with the Skottish Garrison now having landed standing as reserves in Västergötland. Unfortunately it proves that Sir Reventlow is a quite good commander when put on the spot and manages to defeat the much older and experienced Halvor Urup by pushing hard with his cavalry and not letting the Royal Armies and Skottish Garrison to organize themselves. With this disastrous loss Valentin af Banner takes the opportunity to push forward and lay besiege to our dear capital trapping our Queen within its walls.    This happened in late August and it won't take until February next year before the Royal Armies and the Skottish Guard has recovered from the loss and can again strike at the rebels. When they reach the heartland again Trelleborg is about to fall to the siege and Glum have taken control of the highly populated provinces of Halland and Småland. Glum show his formidable skill yet again but this time Sir Urup and his officers are ready for the task at hand and take the young noble seriously and properly and forces his army to retreat while taking heavy casualties in the process.    Valentin hears of the victory in the north and gets worried and as such moves up to Blekinge to try and take an advanced position in the forest so that the Scanian Army can not engage him in the open fields of Skåne. Which thankfully gives the Scanian Army breathing room. With the siege lifted the City can again gain access to food but merchants seeing the rising demand on life necessities increase their prices in the name of profit. Her Majesty though caring for her subjects reach out and buys huge supplies of food to feed not herself or her armies but the entirety of the City.   The Queen is advised by her court to flee the city and take refuge in the Scandinavian Fell as the Valentin army was marching back to resume the siege of the City. But Silje even though she was not a warrior or even good in the matters of war and she very well knew this still held her chin up and with pride said she was her Father's daughter and his heir to the Kingdom. She shall not flee like a coward and abandon her home as the ones loyal to her would starve and die a most gruesome death within the walls. So... the Royal Forces and the Skottish Garrison just in the nick of time manages to get to Trelleborg before Valentin Banner reaches it. Lord Halvor af Urup have no chance against the much much larger and well rested army of Lord Banner and so many fall dead.   Another Pretender tries to claim their right to the Throne, one of the old Finnish noble families that were conquered during the time the Norse faith was reformed. The noble revolting against the Crown is Folke af Bang. His force is however too small and too far away to even register as important for the current conflict. But as time passes Sir Bang gathers support from other lords who wants to see the wicked Queen replaced. The First Royal Army moves to Finland and makes quick work of Folke's personal army.    But Grave news come from Skåne as the siege is lost and the Queen captured. Valentin Banner and his brother his Holiness Fylkir Banner demand her unconditional surrender... but... she refuses... Valentin and Henrik Banner are unsure what to do, but puts her to house arrest and assumes control of the Capital and start referring to himself as Valentin The First, Ruler of Skåne with his brother's blessing. He sends message to the Royal Forces still loyal to their Queen that if they lay down their arms that they will receive amnesty for their wrongdoings. Halvor Urup and his officers panic not knowing what to do but the commanding officer named Ranulf af Cornouaille of the Skottish Guard sees their doubts and decides to take matter in his own hands. He gives the response for them and on behalf of the Skots, the Bretons, the Hávamálers and all other groups of the Kingdom that they are loyal until upon the day the Gods call for Ragnarökr to the Queen who call them Scanians, the Queen who admit them as equals in the eye of the crown and that they shall rather tear the realm apart than to bow before the puppet of the Fylkir.   Two years pass, with near to no change in the status. Valentin rules the Kingdom while her Majesty slowly fade within the walls of the castle. The tensions are still high amid the population. The Royal Forces out of manpower and so have to resort to sneaking around and avoiding Valentin's army at all cost. Lord Urop manages to trick Banner to come chasing after him deep into the forests of Småland and even farther up North which opens up Trelleborg to be taken back and the Her Majesty rescued. At the time that control of Trelleborg falls back into her Majesty's hand Valentin has followed a goose-chase all the way up to Hälsingland. But Halvor Urup is an old and sick man and dies in the siege to rescue the Queen.    In the Iberian peninsula the diplomatic network and military might of Gascone has more or less guaranteed peace and a new golden age for the Iberian nations and several major discoveries about science start to emerge from there. In the year 1550 the Microscope is created by a spectacle-maker. Gotland being a big trading hub in the north conforms to the teachings of the Hávamáltrú as it fits their way of life much better. With the Traditionalists the realm seemingly become more and more unstable and the furthest reaches of the Kingdom unruly.    Skåne falls and the Queen is returned into power and the Banner brothers furious of the stunt that the late commander Urup managed to pull on them. But the people of Trelleborg is divided and the return of the queen does not go well and the city starts burning as its citizens go out o riot. The man we know before that pulled the Royal forces together by the name Sir Ranulf af Cornouaille sees an opening with the vacuum left behind Halvor Urup and offers not only his own services to the Kingdom but the entirety of the Skottish and Breton people to the Queen. He only asks for a chance to prove it. Now saying that the people who consistently have been opposing the rule from the Crown in Trelleborg throughout the generations is now just going to turn and support it was unbelievable for Silje and it sounded like Ranulf was lying to her. But she was running out of options not knowing what to do and accepted his offer. She did not realized that by her opposing the traditional ways of the oppressive and greedy Princes of Skotland and accepting the Breton officers offer she changed the tables on everything and the Skots and Bretons reacted fast. The Skottish Princes were among some of the causes to this entire civil war and was openly supporting the Traditionalist factions and would be among the first to feel the Hangmans noose around their neck upon the end of all this. And it didn't hurt that Ranulf was an... excellent commander with years of experience of warfare.    Then the words come out, "Bretons, Skots, I as your Queen need your aid to protect our realm from your own lords, I beg of you to protect your Kingdom so your children shall grow up as Bretons and Skots". Thousands of fresh men enlist to the Royal Forces and the Skottish Garrison, old Breton and Skottish veterans that used to serve in the Foreign Armies as mercenaries becomes part of the before pure Scanian military and they move north to face Valentin. Ranulf tricks Lord Banner to attack them in the horrible terrain of Västerbotten and ambushes them over a river. Valentin instead of retreating is confident in is numerical superiority and continues to push on.... and it quickly goes badly for him. Forty-five thousand men dies in that frozen river in that cold day of October. Forty-Five thousand of Traditionalist troops and the Skots and Breton forces return home to Trelleborg almost unscathed.    . There are some rebellions still alive in Finland and Prussia but the big threat has been eliminated and the Kingdom of Skåne is finally on the path, to patch itself back together. Stronger and more united than ever before. This is the time that Skåne truly starts to move on its path to become the Great Power of Europe. First Queen Silje reforms the Skottish Garrison to the Royal Celtic Guard, no longer being there to keep the Skots in check but a proud addition to the Forces of the Scanian Crown. Even as the Traditionalist Nobles and Clergy becomes imprisoned it becomes clear that the new policies of the Crown and the Högting is not completely followed by all in the country and it becomes a big concern for the Queen. Ranulf suggest to her that a "Fredsvakt" should be established to police the cities and villages to keep order and ensure that the law is followed. Ranulf has also shown the future of Skåne. It is not in our men or the quality of them. It is that when pressured our Kingdom produces some of the greatest leaders in the world to guide the nation forward. First we had Milzas who without him we would not be where we are today. A closer to now example is King Eskild the Great the late father of her Majesty Silje who pulled Skåne through a deeply troubling time of both economical crisis and military pressure from our neighbors and re-established the Kingdom as a dominant power in the north.   A Seljuk Cartographer creates a terrestrial globe which shows the world as we know it with a lot of help from Scanian traders who reach all the way from Nahualand to Cathay. The times of trouble seemed to be past the Queen but the new policies of hers will be tried once more as yet another view on the state of the gods pops up in Skotland... Too many unstable words are spoken by him who ne'er holds his peace; the hasty tongue sings its own mishap if it be not bridled in. Odinism spread throughout Skotland fairly quickly and in the eastern domains the various small villages continue to follow the Hávamáltrú's belief.    The last holding of von Marienburg is under siege by the remnants of the Royal Army and in August of 1555 the city falls and the internal strife that have plagued the nation sees its end. From the land of Jórsalheim disturbing news come that the Byzantine and the Fatamids have allied each other, if this is as a counter to Skåne or to Seljuks none at the Royal court knows.    With control over all land again the Crown now holds a firmer grip on the obligations of the various lords and the manpower of the Kingdom starts to slowly recover. The economy of the realm isn't that bad, a few expensive loans had to be taken to save the righteous cause of the Queen but it is nothing the Bank of Trelleborg can't handle. An advisor from Prussia named Severin Reedtz had been serving under the civil war to keep the unrest at a lowered level but his services are no longer required and as such a big expense is lifted.   The Crowns grip of most land in the north and distant have been lost and it will take years for it to return back to what it was before the civil war.  New advisers are acquired to the court to help with more relevant matters now that the realm is at peace and in June of 1556 the Army Reformer Bjorn Trolle from Skotland is hired to help with improving the Royal Army. A burgher rising to the opportunity to serve the crown presents himself at the court and offers his services.   Almost none in the east believes anymore in the old ways or are followers of the Romuvan faith. The new faith called Odinism have spread as wildfire among the Skots feeling it clinging more with them than the idea of several gods when obviously Odin the Wise god was all-mighty why would the others be of same stature as him. But the light hand over the Romuvan people in the east pays of as people who used to fight for Lietuva starts to flee to Revan in hopes of protection from the followers of Christ.    Germany meanwhile is a religious mess with conflicts arising every year between the various princes. In Iberia however the powers of Castile and Gascone follow the teachings of Maarten Speirdyke while Aragon remain true to the Pope.   Her Majesty Silje have always been a drawn back woman which did not enjoy participating in public events and she wasn't very liked within the social circles of the nobility so there had always been a question of who should inherit the Kingdom. But recently her belly had grown and the gossip was that she was with child and Ranulf was the Father. Some more zealous court members claimed it to be a child given by the Gods for her just treatment of her subjects. Either way no one could be truly sure until she went into labor on a most hallow day, the start of Odins Hunt over the Great Heavens and the Kingdom rejoiced sure this was a sign that the gods were with them.   The realm remains peaceful still recovering from the years of unrest caused by the civil war. But this peace ends at Midsommer of 1557 as a coalition of Lithuania-Poland-Rus declares a crusade against the Norse to reclaim their land they had lost.   Poland and Lithuania quickly advance into Scanian Prussia to lay siege to the forts. Russia moves towards Finland. The Royal Navy is made ready to blockade the coalition and starve them and hopefully put some pressure on them from their population.   By the time the Royal Army arrives in Finland the Russians have already gotten ninety-thousand men on the border to Skåne. The brave but foolish men of the Jomsvikings Order charge deep into Polish land and is engaged by the King of Lithuania himself.    After several months of maneuvering in the forests of Finland the Russian general Voislav Buzhansky manages to corner Ranulf in Karelia and engage him. Ranulf almost manages to turn the battle into his favor but as 20 000 more men join on the Russian side Ranulf takes the first opportunity he gets to retreat so his soldiers can fight another day under favorable terms.   The Fylkir declares that the cause of this war is Holy and that the Cross bearers are here as demons from Muspielheim to destroy everything in their path. The Merchant Fleet finally arrives at the capital port of Skotland and the Royal Celtic Guard are ready to draw blood for the Kingdom. In the Baltic the Royal Navy make sure we have complete naval supremacy.    As the Royal Celtic Guard arrives in Nyland Sir Johann Urne is made commander of the forces and it is linked up with the Jomsvikings armies to prepare an assault on the Russian forces invading Finland. Ranulf arrives at the scene with the Royal Army and tries to engage the Russians in Nyland capitalizing on that the majority of the Russian forces are held back by the fortifications at Viborg.   The Russians move away deciding to not take the fight but comes back in numbers as the fort falls and the forces at Viborg joins the assault on the Scanian troops. The Russians try to encircle the Royal forces but their advances does not go unnoticed for Ranulf and Johann and the decision is made to retreat from the battle saying that "Let the Russians celebrate their petty victory while we bleed them dry."    New cannons are imported from the Iberian peninsula to give the Scanian army an edge to counter the vast manpower pool of the coalition. The Royal Army is stationed on Åland to guard the entry way to Stockholm while the allied forces recuperate their losses.    Sir Ranulf wait for an opportunity and in the winter of 1559 it comes as the Ural commander Paksyay Syktyvskar makes a mistake trying to take Nyland without any reinforcements in the vicinity. The First Royal Army engages them quickly inflicting heavy casualties on the Russians. Russian reinforcements arrive but so does the Jomsvikings. The Battle of Finland becomes a meatgrinder of Russian men. The Russians have taken such attrition from these battles that they are forced to leave the artillery brigades exposed to enemy assault.    As war rages on, the colonies continue to grow in the west as people flee to find new opportunities and a better life far away from war-torn Scandinavia. A new colony is established by primarily Prussians in Alagoas. Meanwhile in Finland the Kingdom continues to push forward while their forces retain their momentum and attempts to engage an army of Russians who got isolated as all his allies fled for safety from the previous defeat. Unfortunately they run as fast they can to avoid becoming part of Ranulf "the Butchers" track record.   The war is slowly turning into the favor of the righteous armies of the Æsir under the bright guidance of Sir Ranulf who is getting a reputation among the Catholics. But is it enough to counter the massive manpower pool of the Poles, the Lithuanians and the Rus?

In the North the war does not look good for Skåne as they are outnumbered by three to one even with the support of the allies. But the Russian and Lithuanians pull back from the North suddenly. Message comes from the far south. Queen Silje's zealous and loyal cousin, Duchess Rikissa the First of Damascus have sent her army to the southern border of Rus performing raids on the major cities forcing the Slavs to respond to it. The Lithuanians engage them expecting just a raiding party and not an entire army of veteran Norse mercenaries prepared for their flight to Valhalla. As all this is going on in the East, the Polish army focus on trying to force the hand of the Jomsvikings by laying siege to Jomsborg.    The King of the Lithuanians try to sneak in to Finland yet again but are stopped by Ranulf in Kexholm. But their King is no fool and won't fall for the same tricks twice and manages to force Cornouaille to take the initiative and engage prematurely. In the south the Jomsvikings and Johann leading the Royal Celtic Guard is preparing to rescue Jomsborg from falling.    It ends though in disaster and thousands of brave Scanians and Jomsvikings lose their life outside of Jomsborg as it falls to the Polish invaders. Decision is made to take out a loan and do a huge import of new rifles from the legendary Gunsmiths of Gascogne. With that money it seems like Gascogne decides to make a move on the Catholic Holy Order to their South.    The Lithuanians manages to encircle the Royal Army besieging Viborg trying to reclaim it after having lost to the Lithuanian King just to the North. King Jaunutis does however seem drunk on his victory against the infamous "The Butcher" and as such return to his old mistakes and his men has to pay the price of being lured back into Ranulfs traps yet again. Thousands die and the Lithuanian reinforcements arrive but quickly realize it is not enough and even Rus reserves of 21 000 more men is needed to make the brave Scanian warriors to waver and Ranulf makes the decision to retreat for now....    ... but not without leaving twelve thousand Slavs bodies freezing in the snow-clad finish land.  The Poles and Russians take this opportunity to try and push in to the duchy of Norrland taking massive losses as people drop like flies in the Scandinavian mountains even though it is in the middle of the summer. The Polish having left Jomsborg undefended loses it to Sir Johann as he reclaims it for the Jomsvikings. He and the Order Master makes the decision to try and relieve the pressure on the north by invading the Polish coast.    As Slupsk falls the Polish navy is forced out of the harbor as artillery fire upon them but right outside the Royal Navy await them and reduce them to driftwood.   The Poles being worried about the massive amount of men they are losing to the harsh terrain in Northern Scandinavia rush to the south passing by the holy site of Uppsala. The butcher is waiting by in Nærke, even though his troops are tired and can't match the men count of the Poles. But he can not let the Cross-bearers desecrate one of the most hallowed places of the Norse faith and as such engage them on the river to the North called Stallfjærden. But the Jomsvikings come in time to reinforce and fill in the frontlines while the Scanian artillery blast the Slavs to Hel.   With the Poles putting all their energy into pushing into the sacred earth, the very same that Odin once ruled as King upon Midgard, and getting brutally beaten as the brave warriors of the Norse unleash their wrath upon them the Rus are forced to defend the Poles land as Sir Johann Urne pushes deep into it with the Celtic Guard. Johann is however nothing like his senior and even though the battle of Notec is close the Rus with their much more cavalry heavy army wins the day.    The Rus decides to continue pushing both in the depths of Norway and into northern Germany. Ranulf being bolstered by the Jomsvikings infantry decide to push out the Rus from Norway and Norrland.    The Rus cavalry and Infantry are worn out by the harsh winters in northern Scandinavia and loses quickly to Ranulf. With the loss in the North the Rus in Germany quickly withdraws so Sir Johann can continue his push into Poland yet again only to be thrown back again by the Lithuanians. Sir Johann avoids the battle knowing that he has to preserve his men.    At end of year 1561 the forces of Damascus have been forced back all the way to the Levant again and will soon be forced out of the war. Sir Johann does his best to avoid the huge Slav army but is eventually chased down right outside of Jomsborg.    The diplomats of the Royal Court contacts the Lithuanians to see what the demands on the Kingdom. But after all the screaming and yelling of how they are foul pagan heathens and the war will only end when every single one of us are dead. It comes forward that... the King of the Rus is the benefactor of the war claiming almost the entire border they have between them. The provinces of Ingermanland, Karelia, Kexholm would have to be given up and control given to the Rus. The offer is refused. In this time of need the Fylkariate agree to tithe being collected from the Temple land to help the war effort.   Damascus peaces out of the war as their capital falls to the Russian invaders and the Duchess captured. To slow down the invaders dedicated Garrisons are conscripted from the manpower pools specifically trained to defend the surrounding land. Another loan is taken to import the Snaplock mechanic to the Royal forces to try and get an advantage of the Cross-bearers fighting them.    The Fylkariate are however at its end and can no longer sustain the war effort and sues for peace with the Lithuanians. The Russians are back at it again moving around in the cold north of Scandinavia. Rostock is returned yet again to Jomsviking control.    The Rus and Lithuanians vye for one massive push into Scandinavia trying to engage Ranulf waiting for them in Hälsingland. Scouts and Spies in Finland loyal to her Majesty tell of over a hundred thousand men marching upon Hälsingland. Ranulf orders his officers that not a single man is allowed to leave the ranks, this is the battle that will decide if the people of her Majesty shall remain free or not and that the lines must hold at all costs against this impending assault. The Royal Celtic Guard and the Milsariki forces are hurrying up as fast as it can and Ranulf prepare defenses to delay the Christ Followers as much as possible.... On 6th of July of 1563 the first Russians arrive under the command of Volodar Slutsky as they engage the Royal Army in the forests of Hälsingland....   ...and are almost completely crushed upon the day the fury of the Scanians army is unleashed upon the Rus taking almost no losses themselves. The Butcher performs every dirty trick he can conjure up to kill as many of them as possible before the next army of reinforcements of 20 000 more Lithuanians come to reinforce the Russians. The Slavs expecting "The Butcher" to pull back as the odds are stacked against him and pushes with their last strength to try and run down the Scanians only to discover they've run into a trap planned by Ranulf The next batch of armies arrive trying to save their brethrens but way too late and end themselves up in a battlefield bloodier than the previous one as another 50 000 succumb to the Butcher who is now reinforced by the Skots and Bretons.    In September as the Coalition finally gives up the idea of invading the heartland of Scania proper they have lost Thirty thousand men and the poles run scared without even engaging the heathens. With the entire army of Christ being slaughtered in the deep forests of the north the Jomsvikings have free roaming on the Polish landscape.   In the winter of 1563 short while after the defeat of their armies the Lithuanians send a letter to Ranulf a message of surrender.... The messenger reads the messenger out loud to both Ranulf and his men. "I Queen Vida the First of Lithuania demand the man known as "The Butcherer" his unconditional surrender and order that his men lay down their arms and give message to their illegitimate Queen that the provinces of Neva, Ösel, Reval, Goldingen, Königsberg, Warmia, Mitau and Osterode shall be ceded from them. In return the Coalition shall grant them a truce of fifteen years and God may forgive them for the sins that weigh down your souls....." Ranulf and his men laughed too hard for the messenger to continue the message....
