I think its a pretty good ad that will resonate with low-information voters. People that know about what a shitheel Abbott has been and his hand in tort reform won't like it, sure, but the average joe will root for this guy like hes Rudy (who notably, is also a giant piece of poo poo).

Man, my early voting station in Houston was practically dead when I went. It was nearly an hour late when I voted early at the same place in 2012. I know that we're not going to win the Gov/Lt. Gov races, but I hope we can at least kick Devon Anderson out as the DA.

How many of them in states as red as Texas? We have some truly reprehensible candidates this year that are going to win by a very large margin because theres an R next to their name. I don't think one Williamsesque comment would do it anymore in Texas.

So https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...k-it/?tid=sm_tw The group quoted from page 248 of the textbook: “Industrialists were very driven, competitive men who were always on the clock and continually concerned about efficiency. They were used to their workers putting in a full day’s work, quietly and obediently, and respecting rules, authority, and property. In contrast, Mexican laborers were not reared to put in a full day’s work so vigorously. There was a cultural attitude of ‘mañana,’ or ‘tomorrow,’ when it came to high-gear production.” Board member David Bradley, R-Beaumont, who opposed asking for a Mexican-American studies course and textbook, said the proposed book seems fine. “It’s really kind of amusing. The left-leaning, radical Hispanic activists, having pounded the table for special treatment, get approval for a special course that nobody else wanted,” Bradley said. “Now they don’t like their special textbook? I bet they want everyone to also get an A for just attending? The one thing we can’t fix in this world is unhappy people.” Celina Moreno, an attorney with the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, said in an interview Monday. “It’s not only highly offensive, but it’s filled with factual inaccuracies. Even though this is supposed to be about Mexican-American heritage, much of the book actually talks about Latinos of other ethnicities. The publishers don’t know the difference between a Mexican and a Chilean.”

He ticks all the right boxes with no real negatives. Plus coming from El Paso I think he'll have a better understanding of what needs to be done to get out the vote in latino communities, which is a huge impediment to winning statewide.

HB 63 is coming up for a vote this afternoon it looks like. Moody amended the bill last night to change <1 oz of weed from a civil penalty to a Class C misdemeanor (which is a max fine of $500). It does also make it a mandatory deferred disposition, rather than a conviction, as long as there was not another <1 oz offense in the preceding 12 months. Upon completion of the deferred disposition and dismissal of the charge the court shall expunge the charge. Officers can't arrest for <1 oz of weed or drug paraphernalia. Guess the votes weren't there for the civil penalty. Hopefully the amendment will be enough to get it through, as that is all still pretty good stuff, if not perfect.

Zil posted:That is just the decriminalization of small amounts right? No actual weed stores setting up shop anytime soon? It would make <1 oz of Marijuana a class C offense (punishable by up to a $500 fine only [no jail]), mandates deferred adjudication for that offense if no other weed charge in the prior 12 months, provides for early expunction of Class C weed charges, bars officers for arresting someone if the only ground is possession of <1 oz of marijuana or possession of drug paraphernalia (unlike virtually all other Class C or traffic citations), and eliminates some collateral consequences like the 6 month DL suspension that occurs for any other type of drug offense.
