I've been deep-diving on MCOs for the past few years (not in Texas) and the amount of profit-expanding austerity that goes down at the expense of human welfare is real hosed up.

Got clued into HB 3557 after seeing this enlightening documentary about a West Texas pipeline protest over the weekend. The bill makes civil disobedience in relation to oil/gas development a felony. I for one am opposed to this anti-Monkey-Wrench-Gang legislation.

I grew up in Albuquerque, NM and have lived in Austin for close to 7 years now. I'm not sure I'll ever feel like anything other than a New Mexican outsider. Texas seems to have spent a lot of time trying to steal New Mexico's resources or claim its territory, but at least I can always remember with pride that we kicked their asses at the Battle of Glorieta Pass.

Hispanic has been its own can of worms forever because there's an argument about whether Spanish heritage should be dignified as such since that heritage is rooted in the brutal enslavement of indigenous peoples.
