Pekin, Illinois used to call their team the Chinks. It was changed in 1980 to the Dragons after national uproar.  quote:Until 1975, a Chink and Chinklet ceremony was held before athletic games. A boy and a girl dressed in Chinese attire would walk onto the basketball court to greet a member of the opposing cheerleader squad in the center. They would bow and then escort the opposing squad off the floor. The "Chinese attire" was the coolie hat. They also had a mascot at football games who would dance around and bang a gong whenever the Chinks scored.
