I think we've been neglecting the Buddhist elements of this show. Maybe the meditating monkey from the old series wasn't bullshitting. The link below bears striking similarity to the spirit tea party in korra book two. This would make Jinora's arc less of a cop out and more of a set-up for her to be a Guanyin (female bodhisatva of love and poo poo) quest giver/c plot mentor to Korra. (Korra's a shonen type character so she can't be perfect)

In case the Link is down, I'll say that the tea party is a moment of timeless eternity, and Korra's imbalance and ignorance distorts that continuance.

I'm pretty sure this hope is about to be dashed.

Myself, I'm glad it looks like the more glaring flaws of the last season are over, and looks like there's more coming of the stuff I loved.

A better analogy would be if I ordered a triple cheese burrito but only got a tortilla mixed with sand. The show always seems to build up to something it can't quite deliver.

Ps. And I'm pissed about the leaks. It felt so good when I spewed out the told you Sos when Varick went bad. I would have won a metal if Jinora got to be the dark avatar instead of whatever out of left field inherent tao force she is now. (Or she's just a really good airbender, which is even more stupid)

Bumi could have worked if they focused on his inferiority complex that he compensates with badass recklessness but now he's just another superfluous airbender, further trivializing the nonbender majority.

I wouldn't have pursued this subplot. Normy Bumi had to act out and struggle before accepting himself, and even then he was laughably resentful of Tenzin. This continued cheapening of non benders trivializes their role in society when they could be world builders and avenues for exploring things like the military or industrial super dickery (a la Varis) At this point the only non bender left (Asami) is only good for teenage angst and the occasional invite to fancy parties. Just finished episode 1

1. Tenzin's speech was directed as much at us as it was at Korra.

2. They've gone out and officially told Republic City and the masses to gently caress themselves.

I can respect the writing team's lack of shits given.

Oh wait, this is a plot point. Faith begrudgingly restored.

Episode 2:

1. Doubling down on the flawed characters is pretty entertaining.

2. Those volcano guards are dead.

3. What is that otaku doing in the basement?

4. I knew they were keeping Asami around for the perks

5. Preteen romance is acceptable.

6. Bread and circuses

7. Not to impressed by Zuko's voice.

They actually went with the feudal hellhole angle, which was inevitable when you realize capitalism hasn't ascended yet. (And was smacked down in the form of Varick) We also got another deus ex, but at least it led into the political age gap that has existed in places like Thailand and Cambodia. Unfortunately the rebels are shaping up to be khmer rouge crazies.

So how should we handle the leaked episodes? I'd think it would be best if we put a WARNING before spoiler text so people who have only watched what's kosher won't be punished for our lawlessness.

Ps. EPISODE 4 SPOILER:

I called it. Jinora astral projected her way to Brown kid because of her crush. The way they handled this is starting to pay off. That being said the carnival of evil will probably go down anticlimactically after it is revealed that they are henchmen cultists. My impossible to implement story idea could have turned things on their head by assigning these guys to guard duty for dark Jinora while leaving open a kill on sight directive when the two sides clashed. This (and aging up brown kid) would have killed the cute so I'll shut up now.

My next speculation is that Toph's clan will become the legitimate opposition inside the EK while khmer rouge peasants have to be stopped from massacring the poor defenceless secret police and their backwards loyalists.

3. I called it again. Metal clan desires revolution, and oh hey, they've got the bourgeois industrialist par excellance Varick helping them with his expertise and magnets.(which hypothetically should automate the train systems)

7. Toph is alive?

Still, this has far more cool fight scenes than the second season did at this point, and that's all that matters to me.

Most places don't seem affected by the spirits, which is odd. ( And I haven't seen spirit pets in a while, although the Krew might fall back to somewhere in the spirit world if things get dire enough.

2: If he did go along he would constantly perv out on Korra and Asami, being a walking parody of a certain type of Avatar fan. Though I can't really imagine how that would go over with Nickelodeon's S&P so I can understand why they wouldn't pursue that angle.

The idea of a goony shut-in learning to open up and change for the better wouldn't be a bad character arc, but he'd have to be written more charitably to begin with, not entirely as a broad gag.

I feel like season 3 is continuing the habit of manufacturing problems by writing characters as dumber than they should be. After the initial string of failed recruits, the solution should have been for Tenzin to revise his expectations of people, not just his sales pitch. It'd be a lot easier and more obvious to ask new airbenders to, say, attend an airbending convention in Republic City and go from there, than it would be to ask them to instantly uproot their lives and become monks.

An air bending convention? These people invented "movers" just a month ago. If you hadn't noticed, the Earth Kingdom is a failed state, and it's not like the Queen would allow open borders. Add that to the fact that most of the peasants wouldn't be interested in a air bender synod and it makes sense that the air benders only organized out of necessity.

For the second, Lin said the incident caused Toph's career to end in disgrace, but Su objected saying she retired a year later with full honors. Lin counters by saying that Toph was driven to resign by the shame she felt.
