Bags do not appear to be limited time, and I think if cash shop stuff is limited time it will probably tell you before you buy it, don't remember any non-permanent stuff other than the things that are obviously consumables.

I've bought the 10 dollar pack to get in on the early access, and for that sweet sweet 15 slot bag. Age of Wushu inventory space traumatized me. My motherboard recently literally melted so I haven't been able to be around, but I can say this about Wu-Tang, their acupuncture skill is REALLY fast compared to Shaolin. If the game is super pay to win I honestly haven't seen any of it in the cash shop yet. The 60 dollar pack is maybe sorta pay to win? It gives you a fast horse, and some stuff that will probably let you get good gear faster. I have no idea what the companion it gives you does that is special.

Bejeweled made an appearance with the treasure map quests at random. Crafting is pretty cut and dry in Swordsman. We are unaware of the current level cap but the best bet is roughly level 90 from the zones we had access to.

Getting from level 1 to 30 is about four hours of effort if you are totally skipping cutscenes and reading. Right around level 35 the game slows down greatly but guild events and daily events like bamboo can give you a whole level in no time. Also they give you your very own in game botting program to park your china-mans in some farm and just envision automatic lawn-mowing. Once you get to 40 all the daily events and quests that unlock make it smooth sailing as well as you unlock your 3rd and final skillset.

There was a stream that I'm assuming everyone else missed this morning because the only way they announced it was via email, and they said the current level cap was 89, I think. They also said 5 servers, and then implied there were going to be a West and East US server, and then three european servers(one for French, one for German.)

Swordsman is better looking than Wushu, though. And it isn't run by Snail.

So even down to the last hour of CBT or whatever, I was still figuring out new things about the game, it kind of feels a lot like Wushu in that way except better documented. And better localized. And less buggy despite there being some bugs. Are Perfect World in general known for being really bad because so far it seems like a huge step up from Snail? I know this is Perfect World Beijing who may be like a different group but they still use the same client program for logins, right? Is there some other game I should look at to know why people dislike Perfect World? And also do they have anything good, since they all seem to be F2P games(possibly also P2W games) and I won't have my good computer back until like the 1st? I need to kill three or four days and will put up with a lot of anime and tedious bullshit at the moment to have something to do. All my games are on Steam and also require more processing power than I have on this laptop. It did run Swordsman, though! Just uglier and slower.

To sum up some of my experience with the two schools I did get to play a fair amount of during CBT, Shaolin and Wu-Tang, be a Shaolin if you want to be an unkillable rear end in a top hat who pinballs all over the place sweeping people up into nice neat piles for other people to murder and then hits them with a hadouken, and be a Wu-Tang if you want to be an unkillable rear end in a top hat who drops a sword on top of someone, vacuums everyone in a large AOE around the sword to the sword, stuns/knocks down everyone around the sword in a large AOE, acupunctures(a kind of very good hard cc) a bunch of people in a relatively large AOE with the sword, vacuums some more people with the OTHER sword vacuum skill and then I don't even know you just sort of aoe CC people constantly but you are less mobile and a little less personally tanky than Shaolin. Wu-Tang are probably a little better than Shaolin in 1v1, because their acupuncture comes out really quickly in comparison, but I'm still pretty sure that I just wasn't following up the Shaolin grab correctly, so I'm still not entirely convinced by initial assessments of Shaolin in 1v1. I think maybe I was supposed to hit them with something to knock them prone afterwards? Shaolin have more total skills than Wu-Tang, so I did not get to examine all of them as closely as I would have liked after my motherboard melted.

I also played Zephyr, but did not get to do enough PVP with them. From what I did play, they seem like a very solid all around school, if somewhat fragile. Fragile being probably everyone who isn't Shaolin or Wu-Tang, though. Zephyr have a fair number of skills that seem like they would be very difficult to catch and keep hold of without hard CC at relatively long range, and could probably play a long range bombardment sort of role in group PVP very easily. They also have a nice AOE heal, although not QUITE as nice as the Five Venoms AOE heal. Still probably enough that you could play main healer in any of the instance difficulties we actually could enter at level 45. CBT did not last long enough to find out if the extra difficulty level the level 50 instance had(Alliance Leader) would have been hard enough to justify always wanting a Five Venoms along. I think you probably always want a Five Venoms along anyways, though, since their AOEs are so ridiculous in both PVE and PVP. Just not in the actually required way? Anyways, Zephyr seem probably more focused on single target DPS although they do have AOEs and you could definitely build both an AOE and single target bar, I think.

EDIT: How the heck do you use Arc? I can't seem to download the game. Do I need to wait for early access date to actually open to download it?

Do you have a key from a starter/hero pack? After entering my closed beta key it just let me download the game, but since closed beta is down now I'm not entirely sure whether it will let you download it before the 1st. Basically I just redeemed my key, then went to Games>Swordsman>Play for Free.

EDIT: I mean the Beta Key that they e-mail you.

I don't think that's intended. I'd either check my email spam folder to make sure it didn't get sorted into that(mine did), or try opening a support ticket since they supposedly are actually in the office now.

We thought the array would be used for something eventually.

We were wrong.

There are actual good arrays in Wushu now but aside from the Peach array which is great noone will ever put any of them up, because they require like five members of a school and noone is actually in a school other than Beggars. Anyone can learn the Peach array from a member of that faction, though. Guild arrays still don't exist, and none of the dumb arrays I collected are useful, though. Basically Wushu likes to promise that it will have content and then never actually add the content. Instead they add something else that noone other than pay to wins want in the game.

I'm pretty sure that if all it requires is for someone to be acupunctured, then there are going to be a million opportunities to use that combo in group PVP if coordinated. I'm also really not sure that can be rolled out of, since I've seen people do that combo and never seen anyone roll out of it.

Zephyr looks like they are probably good at everything except tanking which is mostly a PVE thing.

Both of them are really really good at murdering a guy in 1v1.

The only real difference between the early grind in this game and the early grind in Wushu is that in Swordsman you have to do more clicking and look at the screen more. And there is no team practice. As far as crafting not being worth it, that's probably true before level 50, since 1-50 is too quick to want to spend so much of your bound money on level 30-40 items. I don't think the closed beta lasted long enough to come to any real conclusions, though. If crafting has recipes for better potions or food items than you can buy from the vendors, it'll definitely be worth someone learning it. Just not sure yet whether those recipes exist. The POTIONS exist, though.

angerbot posted:

The thing about crafting is that while <Willow Branch> or whatever drops pretty commonly, it doesn't tell you where it drops. Your child slave will happily run along behind you picking things up to shove in your materials bag, but it may not be the things you need, and there don't seem to be resource nodes of any kind so if <Not Speaking Up Taoist> drops <Willow Branch>, prepare to grind there for a bit. I guess you can just turn on the game auto-botting system, I never tried that much.

Bag space is another thing - you make 6 slot bags by combining two 5 slot bags, and so forth. I think I came across 4 5 slot bags going to 40, so that may be an issue.

While there may not be REs, there is some kind of an affection system - you can do a bunch of easy quests for a few people to get items that either improve affection with them, or help on an escort quests I was never around to do.

About bag space, this is why you want to do the little treasure map things you get. There is a chance for the treasure to have a bag in it: I've seen as good as a 7 slot bag come from them. There is also the 50 cent bag expansion.

About the treasure map things, the first of the Shifting Sands Treasure Maps I got didn't lead to a chest, but spawned a chess knight that led to some Dragonvein dungeon - which didn't seem to have any rewards at all?

...I have no idea. The first treasure map I did made me play bejeweled, but I won, and got a reward for that. Maybe you missed something? It also might have been a bug, since it WAS beta, and the shifting sand maps were level 40, so not everyone would have reached them yet.

It's like 2 days, and when you come on there will probably be a guild for you to join and poo poo and higher level players to mentor your rear end or whatever that 15% xp boost dealy is.

At level 50 you can take on disciples and give them like two and a half hours a day of +15% exp and maybe some other boosts but like Grithok was the only person who cared enough in closed beta to grind to 50 when the characters were going to be wiped. Guild can hold feasts, those give a lot of experience, and probably improve as the feast hall is upgraded. Guild events are very good experience. Trying to grind levels exclusively through killing mobs is crazy but running the bot while you are asleep can get you sometimes two full levels, depends on whether it runs out of money for healing or whatever.

How important would you say gear is, both in general and....lets say in comparison to Wushu? I know in Age of Wushu the quality of my throwing items on my Tang could make a *massive* difference in the amount of damage I put out.

Important, but moreso in PVE than in PVP, because I saw nothing to make people immune to being chain-cced into oblivion. The very most ridiculous gear is going to take a lot of work to get, but we can get...five star? gear from the open PVP dungeon boss in Mount Shaolin, which we should probably try to actually kill enough to figure out how practical it is.

I'm probably going to be like 30 minutes late for the start of early access and it's bugging me, even though it shouldn't and that doesn't matter. I'm pretty much decided on starting a Wu-Tang first but I might start another character after I get my main to 50. Do we have six people who are going to be in on early access early on? Or more than that, twelve maybe? Need to grind a lot of affection points to start a gang.
