Though it means Trek have no real confidence in their GC contenders, Cancellara has been given completely free reign for tomorrow! :allears:

They do a rainbow jersey version, a maillot jaune, and I think maillot vert. All worth drinking.

Yeah he's one of the France2 TDF motorbike commentators, eyes on the ground kinda thing. The studio will ask him for an update on wtf is happening as sometimes the camera will follow Froome for example, there were two other riders that crashed that he confirmed their names and that they were moving again.

Holy poo poo that wind! Cancellara is going to crush everyone's dreams with his sweet sweet thighs.

I'm going to be so pissed if they neutralize this stage. There could be GC riders that fail to make the time cut if the specialists go hard.

They are going to gut this stage.

There were people saying the same thing the last time we had cobbles. To be considered a winner of the Tour de France one should be a complete rider. One who performs consistently the best in the mountains, time trials, flats, and this year cobbles. It's not like they didn't know the route before signing up, they could have focused on the Giro or Vuelta if they didn't want to ride the dreaded cobbles.

Sky mechanics wrapped Froome's right handle bar in 4 tapes, left side only doubled up. Looks like he's got some trouble holding the bar with right hand.

Sky are riding plan A to protect Froome but to also protect Porte in case Froome can't manage it as plan B.

French TV saying Froome's x-ray last night showed a hair line fracture, if true sending him out today was just stupid.

I think they will go with this story to make Froome look like he toughed it out, but you could hear the team and riders telling him to go on and he just threw a fit and got in the car. I bet the most hurt thing is his feelings. Very mentally weak.

Actually France2 got interview with the TDF doctor and she said the x-ray was clear, he still had pain so maybe he would need better imaging if the pain continued, but that was nothing she could see in the x-ray.

^ If he cut down on the Tramadol he'd probably not fall as much :ssh:

This stage was 100km shorter distance than an actual classic with a less than a 3rd of the amount of pavé in a regular Paris-Roubaix. The classic specialists did not have a big enough canvas to destroy everyone. Look at the time Boom put in solo against the Nibali group in the closing kilometers.

I have my doubts, based on how well Wiggins rode PR, he would probably have a minute or more on Porte and possibly be in yellow.

I don't think so. Nibali didn't need to do anything else but stick to Contador's wheel. Once the finish line was in sight, he didn't need to bust himself further. Beating Contador across the line wasn't going to happen at that point (and wouldn't have gained him any time anyway) and giving up 3 seconds to him in the GC doesn't really mean anything.

He looked cooked compared to Contador. Wait till the climbs and gaps get bigger.

Paddyb posted:

For a guy who supposedly has no team around him, Contador had quite a nice train going there.

What's the expected outcome between Contador, Nibali and Porte for time trial, hypothetically if all are giving 100%?

Contador has turned in some amazing TTs, and in the 3rd week he is strong. On paper Contador out TTs Nibali, no clue about Porte, he's never really featured in the GC enough for me to pay attention, he's not like Froome's 2nd place to Wiggins TT domination from two years back that is sure.
