The tour is the single shittiest race of the year, even moreso when there's a clearcut winner from day 6. Doubly so when that winner has no charisma and every interview translates to "I'm on poo poo you haven't banned yet; come at me"

Caleb Ewan 2nd, made a nice move on the last climb about 10km out but Haussler hauled him in at the final sprint. I'm not sure what OGE's plans for him this year but I guess we might see him in a few classics to learn the ropes since he's still pretty young. (Gerrans was out injured after he buggered his shoulder before Xmas.) Nice to see Haussler in form again. I was a fan of his a number of years ago when he was on Cervelo Test before his knee blew up.

I sort of dig everyone having a go at the record (I'd really like to see how Cancellara would go as well) but at some point you want someone to set a proper benchmark with the new rules and Martin would be the guy to do it. Does Martin have any sort of track history? I'm a big Martin fan and if anyone could do it right now, it would be him far and away, but being used to keeping the line/turning left/never stopping pedalling can be big benefits.

kimbo305 posted:One of his arguments for the old setup was to compare himself to Merckx. Well, if you can't beat Wiggins or Martin, you probably can't beat Merckx, specialized position or no. Wiggins I think? Merckx rode track for fun and enjoyment in the offseason, being Belgian, (and to stack more wins). So he did Madison/points race/etc. Wiggins started in track and specifically trained for pursuit. So his is a more direct transfer. But Merckx is literally the bike Terminator from the future so ymmv.
