Pretty much, from what I saw in the last two, you've basically got a majority who support Palestine (to varying degrees, but the general consensus is that Palestine is hosed), a few who ardently support Israel, and it becomes a slapfight back and forth since no one's going to change their opinion. Oh, and Nazi comparisons; that's usually when the thread is finally closed/gassed.

You've also got a few people willing to effortpost on how everything got so hosed, which was really informative and the best parts of those threads to me. I'd like to thank those effortposters for doing that, I basically knew fuckall about I/P before that.

Oh, and one other part of I/P: the reason the super crazy parts of the Religious right support Israel so hard is because they think that by supporting Israel they can force Jesus to come back and kickstart the Apocalypse/Rapture. I will repeat that fact as much as I can, because holy poo poo there is not a :stare: big enough to describe my face when I learned that.

Before the Storm is better than Nixonlabd, in my opinion, but Nixon Agonistes is better than both and is the one book you should read to understand American politics.

I've got the Reagan book on preorder and am reading Republican Gomorrah while I wait, which I hope will be a better update on movement conservatism than Spanking the Donkey was, which I found disappointing.

Have you read The Reagan Rhetoric: History and Memory in 1980s America? It's a good read on how Reagan used language and communication to so effectively win people over, and to what degree he believed his own bullshit. Also, the cover art alone makes it worth the price:

I remember finding it interesting when I read it some years back. But I don't really remember anything particular about it so I can't say how well it holds up today.

Everyone's always blowing Reagan and his "rhetoric" and what not but aside from coining a few masterful terms like welfare queen, he wasn't some incredible orator. People worship him because the modern conservative movement absolutely needs a contemporary conservative figure to lionize and for historical reasons outside his control, he won by default. I mean poo poo, Reagan's own policies failed the 2008 "Reagan Test" that was supposed to be some pseudo-religious standard of devotion. It's not that Reagan was anything special, it's just that his target audience is made up of the worst scum in the country who willingly praise him for poo poo he didn't even do or say.
