I really enjoy the TeamBackpack cyphers. Not because they're always good, but because it's a really great way of finding up-and-coming rappers whose style I like. Duckwrth and Peoples are great in today's--I've been keeping an eye on Duckwrth for when he drops an album or mixtape, and I'll now be watching for something from Peoples. Grynch just didn't bring it though, which I hate to admit since he's repping Seattle, but oh well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ3AbrzRWpE Duckwrth's recent "short film" (as opposed to music video I guess since there's several pauses in the music and the music changes several times for different scenes) is pretty chill: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0w8lTBEKlI Kenshin fucked around with this message at 16:57 on Jul 7, 2014 |

Yeah Snow tha Product is pretty good. I like Good Nights & Bad Mornings 2: The Hangover but feel like it would have been better with about 2/3 of the tracks it had. That said, it's a mixtape and not an album so what the hell am I complaining about?

New Chris Webby feat. Apathy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YZlvJbhLS0 Apathy of course kills it, but great track and video overall I think. The bridge reminds me of mid-2000s Eminem, which is a bit odd but it works.

Akala for sure (in particular his latest album). You could (possibly) call Wrekonize's solo album that as well (though it is more introspective than outro), as well as Sabac Red and Revolution of the Mind. For American political rap (though this is more violent left-wing rap) look into the two East Coast Avengers albums as well. EDIT: here are a few samples of what I mentioned above: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrEamf9pQ2U https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKnoYcSLzMM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXhl-E0nQ_Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKVR4Qf2KLo Kenshin fucked around with this message at 17:55 on Jul 25, 2014 |

It's pretty darn good but if you are into different beat styles I can see why someone wouldn't think it's fire. I tend to like the style of beats that JMT/AOTP, Snowgoons, and associated acts use myself, but I also know those aren't particularly favored by a lot of the people in this thread.

Yep. I'm not into trap (and thus am not a fan of Gucci) but won't deny he's a hell of a rapper. Sure there is a lot of amateur rap out there, a lot of it bad, but there is so much good stuff too, partially because the barrier to entry is lower than ever and exposure to appreciative audiences is easier (though it could be argued that such exposure is getting more difficult due to how much stuff is now out there for consumption).

Eh, I like positive/motivational rap (but more-so when it is mixed in with conscious rap) but the simple fact is that a lot of it is objectively terrible. I'm not going to hate on a dude for doing it, but he better do it well, and "i" is not doing it well.

Slaine's album "The Boston Project" is a fairly good intro, the entire album is collabs with other Boston rappers. I won't claim to know Boston rap very well though, aside from that album and the rappers I mentioned specifically I can't say I've listened to much.
