Hey guys, I recently started listening to Roc Marciano and Ka, and I was wondering if anybody could recommend (preferably newer) rappers who use the same type of production, or just actual producers if you can't think of any rappers

Tha Connection are very close with Roc and their production style is often very similar (maybe a little jazzier), while Rozewood just released a mixtape called the Ghost of Radio Raheem which has a similar flavor. I think the minimalism of Roc and Ka's beats are pretty unique though, so you're going to have a hard time finding much more than that unless I'm missing somebody.

Armand Hammer, the duo featuring Elucid and Billy Woods, dropped an EP today. It is really freaking good. Here's one of the tracks on it:

Not sure if it was mentioned but the new Armand Hammer EP (Billy Woods and Elucid) dropped last week. Race Music was one of the best rap albums from last year and Billy Woods is seriously the poo poo, so check it out.

I mentioned it. I actually think some of the beats on it are better than the Armand Hammer LP. People complaining that there's no angry, political rap these days need to listen to some Billy Woods. His subject matter is not close to Public Enemy's, but it's still highly political, just in a more subdued, abstract manner.

I think I'm leaning toward agreeing with temple on this, even the Lil B comparison, mainly because Rocky's best poo poo pretty much is completely tied to getting some of Clams Casino's best beats (similar to Lil B), and he is completely ordinary on most everything else. I think it's a situation where he might just be a lucky product of a good producer's prime.

Schoolboy Q released what was honestly a pretty boring album aside from a few cuts, I don't understand what him being on the west coast has to do with anything, it's LA, not loving Minnesota.

Jazz is a fantastic base to work hip hop beats off of, but the jazz production on this sounds soulless and kinda poor compared to what it feels like its inspiration was, the early 2000s Soulquarians poo poo (Bilal is even on this record twice), and to my ear, Kendrick has dialed all the most annoying parts of his rapping up, the fast monotone flow, the angry guy voice that sounds about as unconvincing and nonthreatening as a pissed off grade school kid, and the terrible skits. To be honest, Lupe Fiasco's Tetsuo and Youth was a more interesting mainstream concept album if we're judging this album against its peers.

I just got the new billy woods album in my inbox. It's really, really good. In format/structure it's basically his Madvillain, with the same short tracks, dense imagery, lack of hooks for the most part, and strange beats backing everything. Dude's rapping has even slowed down to that Doom level tempo on occasion. Anybody who's into his work will really like this poo poo, and if you haven't been able to get into dude before, this album might be more digestible.

Echoing a few pages back, the new Billy Woods is good. Kind of a weird listen as it's 24 tracks but all of them are short (i think someone compared it to Madvillainy? But it's much darker). Check it out if you still haven't been convinced of his awesomeness.

I shot the Madvillainy comparison. The samples on this thing are great, too. The Wire, Willy Wonka, and the audio book version of Cormac Mccarthy's Blood Meridian are all on the CD at some point. The track RPMs is kind of amazing.
