Aside from that Big Sean track, I'm really liking the new Common album. I like the really gritty, raw production style on it; it feels like the album I was hoping I would get from The Roots this year.

In terms of R&B, the only new artists I've really been digging (outside of Frank and Weeknd) is FKA Twigs and Autre Ne Veut. I really wanted to get into that recent How to Dress Well album but Tom Krell's singing voice is distractingly bad. Jhene Aiko and SZA are boring and mediocre, and I don't really feel like their music has any appeal outside of passable rap hooks.

Listening to the new Yung Lean tape right now, first impression is that it's way better than his previous stuff. The beats are really nice and his hooks/delivery are a lot better. I have no idea why Kyoto isn't on it though; it's by far his best song.

Really ambivalent on this new Kendrick track. I think it's cool that he's trying to do something different and he's still obviously really talented, but I feel like he's slipping down the Eminem "technically impressive but ridiculously corny" rabbit hole, especially with that weak Andre 3k impression and those dated Carlos Santana guitars. The outro was cool I guess?

I actually looked up the lyrics to that song and it has roughly the same lyrical depth as Pharell's "Happy". I think I need to stop listening to this song because every time I hear it I hate it a little bit more.

Listened to the new Gambino tape. It reminded me of most of his other non-BTI stuff in that it just felt like a boring, store-brand version of something that was already popular (in this case, the "new Atlanta" sound). I have no idea why I would want to listen to this tape when I could listen to Honest or 1017 Thug or one of a billion Gucci tapes and get something similar but better. His R&B/"serious" stuff reminds me too much of Drake and Frank Ocean, but at least it's a lane he sounds more interesting in. Honestly the only thing this tape made me want to do is bump that Rich Gang tape again. Also, I'm happy that ASAP is back but the new track is kind of boring.
