Lol i posted that anaconda song a while back and said that i thought i liked it even though it was pretty blatant pop bs. In retrospect... I was really tripping. Heard it again today and didn't make it past the first 20 seconds. Ill see myself out.

I dunno spooky black's music but Weeknd was basically a one hit wonder as far as I'm concerned. He was poised to become king of drug-fueled, dark R&B subgenre but instead turned into the poor man's version of Frank Ocean with 1/50th the talent and creativity once everyone realized that all his songs sound exactly the same and are about exactly the same played-out subject matters.

edit: (this coming from somebody who played House of Balloons to death and was ready to become a Weeknd stan based on that release alone. But then he kept making more.)

It has been obvious for a while that andre has moved on from rap (and music in general) in a significant way and in that regard Outkast has effectively been dead. It still sucks to hear it straight from him. Still... I dont really feel like he should be obligated to continue a project that his heart isnt in though even if it is the most successful hiphop group of alltime... :ohdear:

High hopes for makonnen. He's another local dude and gettin a Drake remix certainly helped get his name out there. Love his style. He also is on a new song w Trinidad James (also from atl) that's not bad. Sorry im on my phone or id post ... it's prob upthread anyway.

Tuesday is one of the more infectious songs of late summer and i dont even mind drake remixing it because i think that version is better and less repetitive anyway

Gucci is like the bob dylan of rap in terms of amount of recorded material available.

His mixtapes range from mediocre to great but they all have bangers. Im on my phone but ill bold the essentials from the list above when i get home later

There are a lot of gucci stans (me included) in this thread (and no doubt the # here is disproportionately high compared to most rap circles as temple pointed out) but i dont think any of us would try to claim his best days are here or even ahead of him. How could they be with him being literally incarcerated. His music career peaked a long time ago. That being said, it is still impressive that he (or his label, rather) can engineer a tape worth listening to, much less a dozen per year. Gucci is prolific. Compare him to someone like Lil wayne who also had a golden run of mixtapes circa the 2006-2008 period and enjoyed broader mainstream success for way longer than Gucci. He still puts out mixtapes from time and time along with studio albums and they're actually unlistenable.

Meanwhile, Gucci still has a strong cult following that will eagerly await his 15th mixtape of the year despite knowing full well it is material of unknown age reworked over newer beats. I think there is a little more to that than "old habits die hard." drat, just give the man a little credit. He is still fun to listen to for all the reasons others have pointed out above and this latest tape of his is actually above avg compared to the rest of his recent tapes.

Yeah despite the slump of 2014 I'd say we're in a pretty drat exciting age of rap. This decade (as in 2010-now) has been particularly strong. Regardless of how someone feels about Gucci Mane's particular method, stating that 93% of rap is crap or whatever just makes you sound unqualified.

Yeah the impressive thing about the new Gucci tape is its consistency. It got over-shadowed by the standard thread hype but for a tape I didn't even know was coming out it was a pleasant surprise. We all know Gucci tapes normally have a handful of really ill-advised, annoying songs that get skipped every time. Return of Mr Perfect is remarkable in that it has no such tracks as far as I'm concerned :colbert: It is anything but cobbled together.

edit: obviously it is not fair to compare burrprint 3d to any of the frankentapes...

I'll confess that my understanding of what constitutes R&B is probably the fuzziest of any genre. The best definition I can muster is that it involves soulful singing... which is a pathetic attempt at definition. Anyway, It'd be great if someone more knowledgable could throw together some resources for the OP.
