I'm genuinely interested in this as most earlier stuff I've heard is pretty thug or positive with the exception of maybe like some anticon stuff or sage Francis. Who else makes opressivly negative rap?

Edit: I really like devil rap or really most stuff like that but it's still pretty full of braggadocio but that's still pretty much gangster rap and not really self critical
Z-Ro is the kind of sad rap. Noz's mix is a great introduction to his stuff: http://www.cocaineblunts.com/blunts/?p=927

Do any US rapper use UK Grime beats? I always thought those were perfect for freestyles.

Danny Brown's the only one I've noticed ever doing it. He works with a bunch of UK guys, not just Grime ones.

Yea been a long 6 months since I won came out.

That Jay Rock track is awesome though. Hopefully he has an album or some other project coming out soon.

Just finished the new Hail Mary Mallon and I like a lot more than their first album, which had some dope songs but veered too much into silly territory through out it. This one only has the fundraiser concert sketches that don't get too in the way.
Skelethon was amazing so I hope Aes makes at least one more solo album.

Genie of the Lamp and Thizelle Washington are awesome as well have the 'hits' on 'em. His output was all of pretty high quality, so go older if you're looking more laid back west coast beats and the later catalog for the party songs.

Both Hell Can Wait, and Shyne Coldchain vol 2 were some of the best things to come out this year. I had liked Vince before, but he seemed to really up the quality with those two. Need to revisit the RATKING album as it kind of bored me when I first heard it but could get better with more listens.

Rappity-rap Wocka is fun and is way preferable to his EDM forays.

OG Maco has actually impressed me lately. I liked U Guessed It, but the stuff he's come out with since then shows he's a lot more versatile than he appeared to be.
Yea the Og Maco EP is pretty great (though not sure how it's an EP at 15 songs and 55 minutes)

It is actually because his music is bad, and nobody at all is paying attention to him.

Life After Deathrow was quite good but people liked shouting Free Boosie more than actually listening to what he had to say once he got out.

You guys listen to that new Ka album, Days of Dr. Yen Lo? The beats are more funky and less sparse than The Knight Gamble, but Ka's voice still makes it all sound pretty foreboding.

If he did he didn't fall that far. And he bounced back from the Honest period pretty well.
I remember him tweeting about making an R&B album and those guests make me think this might be it.

anyone link Kevin Gate's new EP It's only 3 songs but they're all pretty good.

One of favorite albums out this year was Husalah's H which may have gone under folk's radars if they aren't into bay stuff.
