There are a lot of people who would like to play the type of game David Cage makes without them necessarily coming from the man himself, an observation that few developers have made so far.

That was basically Until Dawn and I guess it's getting a prequel. Don't know how I feel about that but being set in a sanitarium doesn't fill me with hope.

Oh the next game is a prequel? I was hoping it would be a sequel SET ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF THEIR LAST VISIT. At least, I'd find it funny. I hadn't heard of an Until Dawn prequel, the developers next game is noir-y detective type thing that goes all in on the 'I played it with my partner/friends watching and making decisions' stuff that happened a lot with UD and lets people vote on what the characters do.

exploded mummy posted:he's basically the david lynch of video game writers Well no. Even in the case you don't like his directing and storytelling style (and those are structurally sound in a way nothing is in Cage's output), Lynch is fundamentally about producing mystery, while David Cage, like so many others, can't help explaining every little thing, often in ludicrous ways. Johnny Joestar posted:david cage's writing is genuinely really awful and i don't know why he is still allowed to be involved with making things At first, at least, it was because he was self-funded. Like, he provided all the money necessary to run QD at least up until their deal with Eidos in the Omikron days. It's also because his successes have nothing to do with writing. He makes games that look like nothing else, play well for casual players and he knows how to make a splash (making use of his music industry connections to get Bowie in Omikron was a big deal). He's probably also helped by the fact his games tend to have strong beginnings, at the point where everything is still possible and you can't yet see the plot falling apart (at least for Omikron, Farhenheit and Heavy Rain. Can't judge Beyond two souls), so they build hype up well. Chev fucked around with this message at 14:08 on Sep 9, 2017 |

If SWERY could somehow find enough backers to fund his cat people game then I'm confident that David Lynch could do the same, no matter how crazy it sounded.

You know I wonder if Lynch knows just how influential he's been to video game developers. Silent Hill 2, Alan Wake, Heavy Rain, Deadly Premonition, even Life is Strange all crib heavily from his vision.

I'm pretty sure that if Lynch wanted to make a game the kickstarter would be filled in a matter of minutes. I don't think he'd get Star Citizen money but he'd get enough to make it happen. Failing that he could release a Short Story branded kart racer where you're all on ride on mowers and use the funds to back the project he wants to make.

Alan Wake was basically Stephen King: The Video Game (to the point where King is namedropped in the first minute)

Of course David Cage would animate himself grind-dancing with the woman wearing the tank top and panties. He has a very specific taste, it's always a woman with short brown hair and at some point in the game she'll be wearing a tank top and thong panties. exploded mummy posted:he's basically the david lynch of video game writers Nah not even close, he's more like the David DeCoteau of video game writers.

No but Until Dawn, which basically took the David Cage formula and made it good, is definitely horror. They even stole the trope of identifying the hottest girl in the cast and making her determined, against all odds, to take a shower.

I found both Deadly Premonition and Until Dawn great games to play with a friend and games fun too not take seriously. Deadly Premonition has the most enjoyable protagonist who seems very odd not only to the player, but to the other characters in the game. Until Dawn is great game to play with a friend taking turns making choices, and deciding how much drama you want added to the experience.
