I was actually reading that they were a single book originally (called A Feast for Crows), but the manuscript got so massive that it couldn't feasibly be a single book, so it was split by characters rather than in half. Given that, I wonder if A Ball of Beasts could really be considered the true order, one that we only didn't get because no one wants to put a 2000-page book together.

I've finally gotten to A Ball of Beasts and I'm a few chapters in. After looking at the publication dates and seeing which characters feature in Feast and Dance respectively, it occurred to me that readers had to wait ELEVEN loving YEARS to continue the stories of some of them. I feel like I'm watching a wintery storm from within a heated room.

I'm two-thirds of the way through now and thoroughly enjoying it, though I do get the criticism about it seeming to be like 2000 pages of table-setting. But I love it - the only problem is that whenever Ser Boros Blount is mentioned my brain starts screaming "SER DOCTOR PRINCIPAL BOROS".
