Mikan is the cobra commander I was talking about.

She may be serious, but she's the most bungling of the lot by an order of magnitude at this point.

Funny thing, just the insinuation of "harem" is enough to turn a lot of people off from a series, enough to not even give it a chance. Many folks I've recommended it to see the cast and immediately discount it because of the negative connotations of the genre. It's why I don't consider it one, because it's better than that. But hey, think what you will.

YF19pilot posted:

It's "harem" because there is one guy and a bunch of women. This is the definition of a harem anime.

This series separates itself from other "traditional" harem animes/manga by not following the conventions of it's predecessors, and sometimes playing with and upending them for laughs, and follows somewhat more traditional romcom formula while also playing with those conventions. If a friend asked me about the series, I would probably not mention "harem" because of the aforementioned negative connotations and stereotypes.

So, it's not a "harem" anime in the sense that it follows all the conventions and "tropes" of harem anime, it's a harem anime because a harem has more or less a distinct definition, that of one guy surrounded by many women, some of whom may or may not be romantically involved with the singular male protagonist.
Really? I thought a harem anime was one guy who was surrounded by women who all have the hots for him. Monster Musume is a textbook example. Truthism has two characters madly in love with him and one who got rejected.

Weird! I always considered a harem where the one dude had a bunch of girls who wanted to jump his bones. Guess that's not the case.

I know this may be shocking to you, but Monster Musume isn't actually that bad if you're not averse to anime titties.

It's basically Tenchi Muyo with monstergirls and copious amounts of wardrobe malfunctioning. It's actually pretty funny, too.

That's pretty much the problem: anime titties is all it is. I tried reading it a while back and found it to be bland and kind of gross. It's not completely unfunny, but I seem to remember the jokes being utterly cliche. It's little more than a vehicle for softcore fetish pseudo-porn, which is hardly reprehensible, but let's be honest about what it is and why anyone would bother to read it. I don't think anyone's a bad person or anything for enjoying it, but it's trash.

It's the sort of stuff that relates to the rest of entertainment media the same way Mcdonald's relates to real food: nobody should flip the gently caress out about someone liking it, but mild disapproval from your peers is not unwarranted or unexpected.

Jesus, there's a lot of different names people use, officially or unofficially, for this series. Truthism as a fan name, Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa as the original name, My Monster Secret for the localized manga, and now Actually, I Am for the anime. This won't be confusing for new people at all.

edit: thread's up. Seems there's no preview footage at all that I can find so I'll replace the manga profile pics after the first episode or two airs.

I think "The Truth Is, I Am..." or "Actually, I Am..." is a terrible name and something like My Monster Secret is a lot easier for people to remember.

A lot of folks just call it Jitsuwa though, which is fine, but they do need an English name for it, and "The Truth Is I Am" is a bad one.

I mean that's exactly what I said when the series first showed up, but her character really doesn't show any resemblance to Frankenstein aside from the bolt as the series progressed, so I figured a Frankenstein-like character would appear eventually to round out the trio of Vampire, Werewolf, Frankenstein.

As is, though, I think there won't be a Frankenstein character unless somehow they work a Creature From The Black Lagoon in as well.
