This game's interface is a steaming pile of poo poo pretty much all around to be honest, it's incredibly disorganized and not very responsive sometimes. Also I would kill for the ability to be able to toggle crouch instead of holding it, or to be able to go from prone to crouch or crouch to prone directly.

The gameplay itself is surprisingly solid though. There's a pretty intense metagame just when tank hunting. Not counting all the other stuff too.

The "no crouch from prone" thing is hilarious however. I've nailed so many people with headshots because they can't account for that. It was stupid of them to put that in. Memory reflex alone screws a lot of people over.

Edit: The battles appear to be 20v20 at the moment. Numbers are determined by the assault teams that get fielded in generals mode.

Last time I played this was during the very first alphas. There were maybe like one player and a few developers on the server. Looks like the game has changed quite a bit since then. :v:

Gonna give it a try. But the battles aren't open the way WW2 Online is, right? Like 32 people per battle or something. While WW2 Online's grapics are very crude, nu doubt. It was still awesome to jump out of a plane onto a town and assault it, knowing there are players everywhere around you and battles going on elsewhere as well.

Edit:

Well, the game just gets stuck at a loading screen when I start it. Validating game version or something. Using the Steam version.

Update:

Apparently about 3000 files failed to validate when validating with Steam. Good job Steam! Not that it will work even after that.

The servers are down at the moment. Presumably they're trying to patch out the bug that was making it so some people had longer queue times. It's mentioned on the main page that they were looking into the issue.

Comparing the panzerfaust and the panzershrek/bazooka is pretty laughable. The faust does about the same amount of damage as a tank shell and is pretty short range. The actual dedicated anti-tank can one hit a light tank in the rear, as well as just gently caress up other classes of tank, too. Has some distance on it as well.

What I'm saying is the shreka/zooka is total bullshit as a tanker while I don't give a single gently caress about the fausts.

Trainstation is pretty bad for tanks, by the way. Especially the actual train station portion of it, which is absolute hell.

Yeah that isn't really that helpful when you don't own a jeep because you decided to skip buying it so you could keep saving for a bazooka.

Both of them will gently caress up a tank. Light and medium tanks are typically what you'll see fielded since heavy tanks have an insane cost on the map. Which means that fausts are more than enough for most encounters. Hell, we were slaughtering shermans last night with them. The big problem is that most pubbies ignore the faust pick ups and rely on other people to do the job.

Now if you get someone in a King Tiger you're hosed if that's all you have. But that's where things like sticky grenades and massed suicide charges come into play. :commissar:

That's pretty much the bizarro version of my first game as a tankman, where we had two Pz1 against an Easy 8 Sherman and some other thing on a map with no static rocket spawns.

The next round was 4 Pz1 (3 with rocket boxes) against a lone Sherman on the super-foggy version of the airfield map where draw distance is about the same as the effective range of the Panzerfaust. He spent most of the round sitting in the back not doing anything while our garbage tanks killed fully loaded jeeps over and over.

Has anyone figured out how to make the game look not bad? Is there a config file or something I can gently caress with? It honestly looks pretty embarrassing for a 2014 shooter and somehow gets worse at higher resolutions. I have everything cranked to max (by everything I mean the single quality slider), and it's just...bad. I realize it's F2P and all, but the trees and a lot of the geometry in general are some pre-Allied Assault poo poo.

Just when I started getting good at this poo poo. At least the starting rifle can kill dudes if you shoot them in the head (3-4 shots anywhere else though is kinda bullshit).

e: Finally got into the combined arms matches, first one was good (trainyard+town?) but we Germans won it quickly. Then I got stuck in a absolute grinder of a battle on the same map, except the southern part and it was foggy/dark. We got to the southern barn before a loving swarm of american clown cars descended upon us. Didn't get much further than battling over the loving barn for 30 minutes, even if I had something like 35:9 k/d by the end. Getting stuck in the sacrificial assault squad sent to do jack poo poo sucks :argh:

(Someone should do a open world MMOFPS, with more ArmA like mechanics for infantry battles).

Don't buy the MP34 unless you have a second soldier to play so you can bring a Gewer along, because the MP34 is loving garbage outside of point blank range. It's like throwing wet noodles at anyone more than 10 meters away.

Once you close range it's alright but like 95% of the combat takes place at ranges where you want a rifle. If you take the MP34 alone then you're gonna find yourself with your dick in your hand a lot.

Yeah they're supposed to be used extremely sparingly. Basically just to assault control points and even then only when you know there's an enemy in there. If you throw them like it's Battlefield or CoD (every respawn, use all your nades) it'll hit your wallet hard.

It doesn't matter because the splash damage on grenades is so poo poo they're almost useless anyways. I've had a number of times where one has landed close to me and made me think "Welp this is it" and then done no damage at all. I quickly ditched them for AT mines and don't regret it.

Holy balls the Hellcat is turbo fast and two shots everything in the game. It dies in two hits too but that's expected.

It seems like they "fixed" the oversight that medium TDs also counted as mediums for badge progression, though, so you're stuck bumming through every medium tank as usual. If you're lucky you could steal medium tanks and do it that way, but I think it'd take a few battles.

Oh no AT-grenades are hideously overpriced and don't do much damage. You shouldn't be putting down mines as area denial unless it's a bridge or something, you place a AT mine down beside a tank and then shoot it proactively.

Basically the same thing but a one hit kill and rather cheap.

Three AT grenades to the rear of a heavy tank will typically kill it. Depends on where you throw them at really. Like anything else they seem to rely on a certain amount of personal knowledge.

This owns when it works. Or gunning down a tank commander who is outside his hatch.

But really, tanks are loving overpowered all around and the general game balance is poo poo right now. The gameplay seems to consist entirely of throwing a non-stop stream of tanks at the other team, because most people are running around without anything that can counter a tank, panzershreks are really expensive, and panzerfausts are weak, not frequent enough, and you can't use your main gun while using so of course nobody carries them around. And I get the impression most people have no idea they're lying around the map anyways.

You're basically hosed if you end up on an assault map with a chokepoint and the defenders have more tanks than you, since the panzershrek is basically a limp dick at range and you probably can't flank them anyways because the map design is poo poo.

Also fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck the upgraded weapons. The MG42/BAR/Thompson are so much loving better than the starting weapons it's infuriating.

All in all this is kind of a poo poo game, but it's all there is to scratch the WW2 shoot mans itch at the moment.

Played a few rounds. The grind in this game feels like a huge wall. Even worse then Planetsperg 2. Every upgrade is super expensive. Still fun though.

But I agree with he earlier poster this game needs toggle run/crouch. You can kind of get autorunning by moving forward and opening the text chat but that's lame.

Is there anyway to adjust brightness everything is seriously dim and there's no video settings.

I've been having a lot of fun playing as a tank crewman in this. I've grown rather attached to my panzerkampfwagen I, despite it being basically a glorified trash can, it's got spunk. I decided to skip the tier 2 light tank and go straight for the tier 3, since a 20mm cannon didn't seem like it would be much more useful than the dual 7.92 machine guns. I was just a few matches away from affording it when the servers went down, so I'm counting the minutes until I can get home from work and hop back in. I can't wait until I can finally seriously punch back at those Stuarts and Chaffees that have been kicking my rear end all over the place.

EDIT: A big problem with tanks are people are loving dumb in this game. I've pulled up to groups pinned down by a tank , told them to grab a panzer off me and get crackin, but they'd rather just sit their plinking away with small arms. I mean I can understand not knowing about it, but when I pull up, shove the box in their face, tell them how and why they should take some, and they just sit there all doe-eyed it's just maddening.

The grind gets easier the higher in rank you go though. Unlike Planetside 2 where it's a direct wall you can never really improve on without paying out real world cash, a higher rank means you get more cash per round by default.

At the max rank you're making anywhere from 5k-10K per round no matter what, which it seems is enough to afford just about anything you want so far. It's a pretty nice feature that alleviates the sting of having to play matches where everyone else has cool toys you want.

Edit: Also, meat grinders/long battles give a poo poo-ton of credits. I had to go AFK for part of a fifty minute (!?) battle where we went down to like a minute left before we started capping. The battle was a horrifying meat grinder where we slowly ground down the huge amount of allied armor they brought in. We finally got the objectives and I got about 10K in cash to spend on gear and vehicles. Who knows how much I would have gotten if I wasn't AFK for a good chunk of it.

Also, heads up but due to the game being down yesterday they gave everyone free paid membership to the game for two days. Now's a good time to play some rounds if you want to level up and get gear faster.

10k is pretty much the normal for when you have veteranacy active. 6-7k plus the 3k bonus for it.

And then you hack off replenishment costs etc. Game's still a grind.

Edit: Actually, battle time doesn't really matter whatsoever. You get a very paltry bonus for murderin' dudes (I think it was 10 each.) and more for capping points, you get your salary after spending ten minutes spawned in with a soldier (As of a few months ago it didn't stack with the same soldier, but did with separate ones.) which makes most of the actual payment.

No you don't. You get your pay for being active in at least 50% of the match. It even tells you that on the rank screen.

And if 10K is normal for veterancy then you're going to be getting ridiculous amounts of cash at the rank where it's normal to get it without a monthly sub. It's still only a grind at lower levels.

Kubelwagons with the panzerfaust are the best way to grind down the tanks. Get two to three guys and use them as fast attack. Most players are blind and if you can flank a tank a well placed shot in the rear will destroy it. Also if the enemy are all coming from the same direction on an open map, setup the wagon as a stationary machine gun. I've mowed down entire squads before they knew what was going on
