Its pretty cool, made it to the haunted forest, still really early. One thing that annoys me is the AI for your partners, is there anyway to keep them from acting like idiots and tanking ranged attacks? They seem kinda useless.

Get two friends to play with you.

Or if you don't have friends you should be good at pressing select 3 times as fast as a normal person and microing the entire party. Also learn how to arrange AI on the chess board and adjust charge levels, 30 hours in you'll see what I mean.

Use a Tool Assisted Run and construct the perfect speed run while controlling all 3 people by yourself. Does this exist? It really should, because I want to watch that speedrun. I like them both equally pretty much, they're different enough that you can't really compare them side by side very easily. SoM2 does get a bit grindy towards the middle though when you wanna do the first class swap. just killed Jewel Eater hells yeah suck it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZXQFmB-fQM mods plz namechange to drat drat drum or drat drat dumb

That seems kinda hard, also i have no idea if im using the chess board correctly, if i put one of the characters somewhere between attack and keepaway, does that mean they will attack from far away and kite the enemies, doesnt seem to work for me. Also yes gently caress the spiny tiger, is it just impossible to avoid its magic spells?

why are there so many great games with ~composers~ for the snes / 16-bit era and nothing with as much acclaim currently? or was it just the only part of the game that was extraordinary so it got a lot more focus?
|
# ? Jul 18, 2014 10:53 |

I think it was just a right time, right place thing. Composers are certainly capable of making good music still, but since there's not as many RPGs that day that need to have the pacing carried by good music, they don't really get to show case it like they used. The latest mana game, which is some pay to win japanese phone slop judging by this video, has the same composer as Secret of Mana/SD3 did. The music still sounds good, tho. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5hzOCQzUJQ The lady that did Legend of Mana's soundtrack is still making music too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rr70dLy5yKg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dMD2uGkewQ These still sound pretty good imo so I guess it's nostalgia?

# ? Jul 18, 2014 11:01 |

There is still music being made for video games that is good, I was not trying to imply that music somehow got worse. But the music at some point was given a backseat, and became less memorable. The most recent memorable game song I can think of is the Mass Effect Galaxy Map music. But yeah its probably nostalgia.

I think Secret of Evermore was the best game in the series.

hubris.height posted:But yeah its probably nostalgia. Music (and sound in general) in games used to be srs bsns. Just remembering what monkey island 2 did with iMUSE, that poo poo was absolutely mind blowing. Now they usually just record 20 tracks and slap em over the game in a semi-random order and it's "done". It can be really good music, but the direction is too often lacking. These days, graphics are much more important to publishers than sound ever was, and of course music also suffers for it.

tbh a lot of game music is ambient so even if it's great for setting the mood you won't consciously notice it

there's an exploit in the game where if you cast another spell immediately after another you can "stack" the damage together as well as effectively stunning enemies, hth op
