Don't forget that they hosed up Garrus' hi-rez face texture and couldn't be bothered fixing it because it would of been a multi-gig patch. Which was later fixed like this http://forum.bioware.com/topic/224549-garrus-face-fix-in-me1-without-texmod-you-dont-need-it/

3.
1, 2, Ultimate Carnage (The best one) and Next Car Game.

From what I remember 1 had a really good reception, it did have some cool stuff going for it. Off-road racing with lots of physics objects littering the tracks and if you smashed hard enough you flew out of the car! :monocle: It is pretty loving cool for 2004. So a sequel was made.
Ultimate Carnage was a 'next-gen' remake for 360/PC of Flatout 2.

Next Car Game is interesting. They held a Kickstarter for it. They wanted $350,000. It was bombing hard so they cancelled it. They got up to $81,772.
So they released a little demo of what they had to get pre-orders and boy that was successful so they took it to the next step. They released it on Steam Early Access. It apparently made over $1,000,000 in one week alone.

Thankfully Next Car Game goes back to being more like 1 and Destruction Derby.
I both liked and hated that feature. It was a really cool level of detail for a not-sim racing game at that time but... if you got in a few rough hits your race was fuccccked.
I'm pretty sure it's still around in Ultimate Carnage but it's not as severe. Your car can start to limp and wobble but it's not race ruining.

Dead Island: Wow, loving amazing trailer. Okay, the game isn't great, its got some major issues, but its the only FPS zombie hack'n'slash on the market so it'll get a pass.

Dead Island Riptide: ...this is the exact same loving game with the same problems as DI in addition to a new set of problems from all the generic poo poo they added.

Dead Island 2: Being hyped as more comical (so like Dead Rising) and in a different engine , so at the minimum it'll have to look better and have a different UI. Still probably going to be a bug ridden mess on release.

I've been craving a WW2 MP game since I'm a bit sick of modern-military not-iraq/russia games. I just tried this game called Heroes & Generals and holy poo poo this must be the most Pay 2 Win game I've ever had the displeasure of trying. Literally everything is locked behind gold (which you get 1-2 per game and each round is about 30 minutes, most things cost ~1k Gold ($10) to unlock except some things which can be paid using Credits) and those people that just pay $10 - $20 for a plane/tank will dominant everyone that's running around with shity starter guns (and the starter guns are really loving bad). Sidegrades are a foreign concept :psyduck:
The most direct Pay-2-Win thing is the infantry weapons, mostly coming from the SMG weapons like the MP40/Thompson since they're just straight more accurate/more ammo versions of the first tier of SMGs MP34/M3 (Which you can still easier rack up kills with. Whack on the Fire Rate attachment on the MP34 :getin: ).
The starter semi-auto rifle is nuts if you're a good shot at medium range.
The dedicated infantry AT launcher is shitballs expensive (Both credits and gold) to stop every player but of course that doesn't stop some people.
Paying for a Heavy Tank isn't an instant Win Button itself, they only get to use that Heavy Tank in a battle if it has a Heavy Tank battalion. The worst/hardest part is the counter, your force might not have a Heavy or Anti Tanks for your match *Insert something about the Generals part of the game about this*
Also the dedicated infantry AT thing as well.

Xaris posted:

I was referring to Gold which is about 1-2 from what I can tell. Also I might be missing something but I can't buy everything with Credits. i.e. Here is the first medium tank. And to unlock "Medium Armor 5" which is the alternate way to unlock this, you need to have already owned a Medium Armor tank which... you have to buy. Unless I'm missing something.
Yes. You unlock the first Medium Tank by progressing through the Light Tank tier. You only unlock the Light Tank by becoming a Tank Crew. Same with the Heavy Tank, you can unlock them by levelling out the Medium Tank tier.
Of course you can just pay for them but then you don't have a Light or Medium tank.

Hell, NK becoming a superpower is nothing but flavour text that everyone would ignore in any other FPS, even one trying to play it off as serious. NK has been dropping out as 'flavour-of-the-month' for a while anyway, it's all about the Russians again.
What made that quick-time event even more massively stupid was there was tons of other places to hide in that area too.

-Planet Explorers is a thing I guess. I've play a chunk of it but I haven't reached the end of content like others have so I'm not too sure about it. I waste my time on building dumb superguns and silly cars.

2 actually had more interesting assassinations too. BM just had targets hide in a corner if you went loud. 2 had fail conditions.
One of the early assassinations was killing two Russian officers in a park. If you were caught out they'd try to escape. I liked placing car-bombs on the cars, startling them so they'd run to them, then they'd explode.

Huh sounds and looks janky as hell but if I can put up with it, this sounds like my kind of poo poo.
It's totally super-jank but has great moments. The hardest thing for new players is getting into an Event. For example you pick a Non-League Race from the Coming Events list, you register for the race, select your car and gang dudes and finalize the register.... and nothing happens. What most vets in the game don't say is you need to wait for the event to actually start too. Picking an event looks something like this:
Non-League Race (SS, 4, 6min)
Non-League Combat (SS, 2, 10min)
Quali for Deathrace League (GW, 0, 1hr 20min)

First part is just the name of the event. There's leagues and ladders and custom run events and all that jazz.
-The first thing in the brackets is the event location. SS is where you start and where most of the players seem to be. If you don't have any gang members in GW (Or whatever it is), you can't enter the event.
-Second is just the amount of human players that have registered for the event. Note that you don't have to actually turn up if the event. If you register but don't show, the AI will control your car/gangers for you, this can be a good/bad thing.
-Third is important. It's how long until the event actually starts up. You join for something over an 1 hour away, you have to wait until the event starts to actually play it.
This is the biggest hang up for new players. Vets roll off how to register for an event but never mention you have to wait for it to start. To Vets, this is a normal thing but for Average Q New-From-Steam-Guy they want to know why their game isn't starting nownownownownow.

Story time though:
Today I was returning back from a Scout event (Players vs. NPC Gang combat), nearly everyone scored a beaten up loot car too after shirting a fight that wasn't in our favour. They spawned 15 behind use, we had 13 cars and most of them rentals, not to mention it was a sand map. After running away for a bit we managed to turn the tide of the fight and we didn't even lose a car. I shot a fleeing-in-foot ganger in the head with my Car Rifle too. Someone else ran another guy down and instantly out him into a coma. One of the Vets got his guy out of his car and was just wrecking poo poo up with his rifle.

Unfortunately we pulled a Return event (Combat event on the trip back to town). This means you're fighting fresh gang cars in your own beat up damaged, low-ammo cars. So we decided to bolt for the Town Gates instead.
Now I had a pretty easy time, my rental was mostly undamaged and my loot car was also in good shape so I was able to get there easy. But one other guy. He had a rental plus two loot cars. He flipped one car on the first bend, lost his second car turning around to recover the first, and his third when trying to limp away with his banged-up looted truck.
Some of the more experienced guys hung back to slow the attacking gang down, an armoured up van and SUV. They kept on telling us to run, don't worry about them, they can break off and escape easily. They chipped in some cash to the guy that lost his rental and his two loot cars to cover some cost for his bad luck.

Big open world to drive/cruse around in. You can 'drive across the USA'. Think TDU with Ubisoft staples (Bad shoe-horned story that constantly reminds you to pay attention to it, looking for a thing that reveals activities to do in the local area, etc). The game has some crazy Gran Turismo 1 style "you can't flip over no matter how hard you try" fake physics going on. Go off a ramp into a flatspin without flipping over? That's an instant crash without even letting you try to land.
Game has ramps, it's trying to be Burnout! :byodood: Maybe, just like, ramps are cool?
But I haven't tried flipping a car yet honestly. Can you roll one by turning too hard? Or this could be the issue that games with licensed cars have had for ages and a half:

quote:

"Unfortunately, different manufacturers have radically different hang-ups. Also, the hang-ups are not proportional to the real-world prestige of the brand or its importance to the Forza franchise. I'm not going to name names, but I will rant a little bit.

One American manufacturer will allow damage all day, but is adamant about cars not rolling over. We have several other manufacturers that will only allow roll-overs if all of the others agree first – hellofa Catch 22. One of our European marks can't be used in PR materials as solo, winning or losing. It must always be pictured with other cars and dead even with them. Another European brand will allow painting and decals, but we can’t allow players to put “thunder” on the side of the car. I’m not even sure what that means. I assumed it meant lightning, but when I asked that specific question, the representative was very insistent: “no thunder”.

...

We have one European manufacturer that allows damage and rolling over, but is fairly unreasonable about upgrades and painting - core features to Forza. Truth is, I've spent 80% of my licensing time with just this brand. All that, and we still only got the licenses signed for half of the cars that we built from that brand. And yes, that means we spent months building cars that will never make see the light of day. I had to do back flips just to keep the small group of their cars that I felt were critical – we even got Peter Moore involved with this brand to help us pitch a higher level of partnership.

In the end, it’s all about building a partnership – which takes time. The key is to show them that we have passion for their brand and will defend it. It helps that we make a simulator – they know our goal is to achieve reality and celebrate their brand in a franchise, not use their brand to sell a quick product."
This comes from Dan Greenawalt of Turn 10 (Forza series). The original post on the T10 forums seems to be lost to the Internets of Time but it's quoted enough it's easy to find the whole thing. It all comes down do did all the manufacturers agree to allow rolling?
That spin/crashing thing I have no clue, but if it was trying to be Burnout it wouldn't crash you out.

TL;DR The Crew is Test Drive Unlimited 3: Ignore the Moron-story harder, not Burnout For Speed: Hot Nostalgia Cash-in. And that the TDU games were wonky things that appealed to a group of racing gamers that just want to cruise and dicks with mates.

Having said that, World of Diving is out on Early Access now. Enough features in game to worth nabbing now?
