the only mentions of the problem I can find are from 2003 or something. is there some magic bullet that I've missed

i have a strongswan vpn to, among other things, bypass a lovely proxy that blocks the internests only troll free forums. it goes to a lovely vps in canada, w/e. its a cert based ikev2 vpn with strongswan 5.w/e on both ends.

vpn is overall good, traffic goes out and back in, posts to forum well. however some sites (notably tumblr hosted images) i think the packets become too large with all the crypto poo poo glued on and then the mtu is not right and they get dropped before exiting my vps leaving my computer thinking there was no response. on the vps i get icmp 590s (fragmentation needed) for teh failing urls. I tried turnign off mtu negotation in proc but still doesnt work. any ideas???

have u turned it off and back on again

netgear is... bad. the last netgear unit that i configured because the customer didn't/couldn't do it themselves was early this year, and the latest firmware was from 2011, didn't support ipv6, and each web gui page load took ~30-60 sec.

you're better off with a small sonicwall or a small cisco asa or if you're down w/ a little bit of fiddling, get a ubiquiti edgerouter X or edgerouter lite. if those aren't your thing just get a tplink archer c7.

nah the NAT engines on a lot of the big ISP-supplied units is typically the cheapest poo poo they can get away with. if he's got 20+ computers he already has a switch (hopefully gigabit)

please do not use sonicwalls
