I hate ME3. It and Dragon Age 2 killed any desire to play Bioware games again.

I will say that ME3 has some amazing moments, the only problem is they're in a game that doesn't deserve them. I will admit I cried at some points during this game because a trilogy like this connects you with the characters in the same way a movie or book series can. The extended ending DLC did help to mitigate some of that initial hate but in the end, I was fooled twice by Bioware, I don't feel like getting fooled again.

Either way, I'm enjoying your LP so far.

Vega's kinda eh, but those other three are good. Kasumi quickly became a favourite of mine by the end of her DLC. I've always had a soft spot for devil-may-care daring thievery, and she more than filled the spot.

How's Zaeed's DLC in ME3? I only played From Ashes (and the MP DLC) and I never see anyone talk about it.

I liked Vega actually. I liked calling him out on his flirting towards Fem-Shep.

I just want to point out that in order to get the :turianass:perfect:turianass: ending you need to find a hidden dialogue option while speaking to T.I.M. Honestly I prefer the not-so-perfect ending since I think the exchange that happens instead is a much better done scene. Plus you miss out on the LP's title. :v:

Also, words have already been said about this, but I really hate how Cerberus is used in ME3. They basically exist solely as an enemy for you to shoot when the game can't justify tossing reapers at you, and it kind of sucks compared to how they were almost interesting antagonists in 2.

2 is the outlier when it comes to Cerberus. In 1 they were straight up space Nazis. 2 tries to make them seem like misguided folk and then 3 reminds you that yes, they are still space Nazis.

To be fair, Vega was poorly written for Male-Shep characters. He's a lot more fun hanging around Fem-Shep.

Also to be fair regarding the dream sequence: as the game progresses more and more dead character's voices can be heard as you walk through the forest. There's a video on Youtube that plays all the audio clips that can happen and boy howdy does is it depressing to listen to. The major problem with that sequence in general is if you've been trying to keep everyone alive, you'll only hear whoever died at Virmire. And if you keep saving people that's all you'll hear for the majority of the game, making the scene more and more grating.

I'd argue that Leviathan was also crucial to the story, and if properly integrated with the full game would have resolved some of the ill feeling towards the ending.

I'm actually less convinced about the necessity of Javik, he adds some history/exposition but that information doesn't change much of our understanding of the conflict or the motivations of all parties. The game was clearly made with him in mind, which is frustrating, but he's mostly fluff.

The DLC was funny because it assumed people were going to replay the game again, which considering the bullshit ending, was a big gamble. It's like the DLC for DA2: why would you replay that garbage? Hell, Javil being day-one DLC is another Bioware trope (ugh), Shale in DA:O was the first time they had a day-one DLC character and then they repeated that for ME2 (Zaeed) and DA2 (Sebastian).

I heard the Citadel DLC was good but gently caress giving Bioware anymore cash.

If you didn't save the Rachni Queen in ME1 this mission has only one good outcome: killing the breeder pod or whatever it's called in replacement of the queen. If you save it here, you screw up the Crucible's construction.

It's funny, I think Wiks dying to save the cure is actually a lot more powerful than Mordin. Unlike Mordin, Wiks really doesn't have a stake in this. He's not willing to die because he feels he has to atone, it's just what he believes is right. It's personal to him because it is inline with his own belief system, and he goes to his death only to stay true to that. Mordin's sacrifice probably means more to the usual player because you spent all of ME2 with him and experiencing his arc, but in a narrative vacuum I think Wiks' story is the better one.

I can't even recall who the gently caress Wilks is, that's how little he matters to the story. He is just a replacement for Moridin if he already died in ME2. If he actually mattered at all he'd still be around even with Moridin in the picture.

What do we think about Bioware's writing? Which of their lines are half-decent and which are the real clunkers?

I wanted to talk about Aria as well at this point but couldn't find a way to work it in. Aria's pretty unpopular with a lot of people, and I've never fully understood why - people claim she's a pet character of Mac Walters, which I can buy, but I don't see what about this makes her so offensive. She's got a very minor part in a series that's much bigger than her - if anything, she's underutilised as the anti-Council, though I suppose TIM has that job really. Still, if people have criticisms, this is the time to air them!

Quoting for new page. I hated Aria mostly because the first time you meet her they do this close up on her lips when she says "Don't gently caress with Aria". I found it so stupid. It felt like Bioware was trying to make a point and they overdid it. Plus the fact that she was so underused made her seem meaningless. I think there's a Mass Effect 3 DLC with her but gently caress buying that.

I think this has to do with how humor works compared to other emotions. We accept that some people have different tastes in humor so we can forgive a joke that fell flat. However, emotions like anger and sadness don't have that similar caveat so when a sad scene makes you laugh or just doesn't affect you the way the writers were trying, your immersion begins to falter.

Without any DLC, the max War Asset score you can get with an optimal run through all three games is around 7500. If you didn't do any multiplayer, your EMS will be 50% of that, so 3750. The Extended Cut DLC lowered all the EMS requirements and the other DLCs added a decent amount of war assets. So yeah, doing multiplayer isn't required unless you're doing a failShep run of sorts and still want to get the "best" ending.

3750 is enough if you don't care about an extra ending that you wont see because you chose the one true blue ending.
