Anyone have recommendations for modern hardboiled detective stuff? Is anyone writing it? I'm particularly interested in stuff that takes into account the internet and smartphones, cause it seems like those would change everything.

Does it count has hardboiled if the detective is a police officer? I've been reading the Wallander books after my parents raved about the show and after hearing about the surge in Swedish crime fiction post-Dragon Tattoo. I'm just getting into book 3 and they're...OK? I'm compelled to keep reading because I want to know what happened, but I don't feel any particular love for the character, nor do I feel like the writing is engrossing.

I read the first two, enjoyed the case in the first one more. I definitely appreciate her ability to make an interesting and likable detective duo.
