I do think it's hilarious that people love TDU and TDU2, but despise The Crew. Both TDU and TDU2 had way worse handling, TDU especially. 100+ over a sharp crest and my car just sticks to the road like glue? Rock solid suspension? Cars that hit a bump and spazzed the gently caress out? TDU had that poo poo covered.

I disagree with your statement but I think for a different reason than you made it. I far preferred the physics in TDU 1 and 2.

TDU games had some odd physics to them in the gravity and grip but they were consistent and acted like there was an actual physics model that just wasn't really well implemented. It was predictable, and had real world analogues for traction and the way friction behaved even if the thresholds weren't the same.

The Crew just feels completely wrong. There are things the games does that has not only no basics in physics but are completely and totally wrong. For example, when a car oversteers and the rear wheels have lost traction if you counter steer and add light throttle like you should then too loving bad for you it does poo poo, but if you do the opposite of what you should and mash the brakes while counter steering your car whips around and rights itself exactly the opposite of the inertia your car has.

It's like there is absolutely no actual physics model in The Crew. It's like someone who has read books about driving but never actually driven a car programmed what driving was like in their head, completely ignoring how it actually works because they have never done it.

I AM THE SCALES OF JUSTICE, CONDUCTOR OF THE CHOIR OF DEATH!

I would argue that The Crew does have a consistent driving / physics model, just not your typical one that you'd be expecting. Is it odd and counter to what a car should do in real life? Yeah, sometimes. But it's consistent and once you figure it out, it's really not hard to drift corners and rally down dirt roads like a pro. Not only that, but to me it feels better than a lot of supposedly well done racing games (I'm looking at you, Shift 2 Unleashed.) I genuinely like the driving model, it's pretty fun to me.

But, this is a debate that's been done to death at this point. Anyone else excited for the Extreme Car Pack this month? I'm hoping since it's supposedly a pack full of super fast, high end cars, they'll start adding in the missing circuit specs. I really want to put Circuit spec on my Silverado for the totally ridiculous NASCAR Truck look :allears:

Yeah some cars are inexplicably missing a circuit spec and I don't know what the gently caress they were thinking.

Lamborghini Murcielago, Perf and Circuit. Sure.
Alfa Romeo 8C, Perf and Circuit. Cool.

Aston Martin V8 Vantage, Perf spec, no circuit spec. Well... that's kinda dumb, but I guess it is more of a street car than like a Le Mans car or something.
Maserati Gran Turismo, Perf spec, no circuit spec. Again, I guess if I had to I could see what you mean, more of a street car. But comeon.

Lamborghini Aventador? Perf spec, no circuit spec. Wait, what? That doesn't even make sense :psyduck:

Lamborghini Miura? Perf spec. WHAT? THIS MAKES NO SENSE
Pagini Huayra? Perf spec only. WHAAAAAAT THE gently caress ARE YOU DOING
Ferarri? Perf only. :suicide:

If ANYTHING those cars should be circuit only, with no perf spec. THAT would make sense, they're ridiculous supercars. But they're perf only (meaning half-offroad races sometimes) which is completely inappropriate.

Yeah sure you can take your 350Z to the circuit track but not a loving lambo.

Also the classic charger and camero have dirt specs but not raid spec, that's weak.

Miura Perf spec makes sense though. It's based off the real life Miura Jota, which was an actual proper Miura racer.

And technically the Camaro RS does have a Raid spec. You use it in Ironclad Dash and at least one or two other races, you just can't purchase it yet. They've already confirmed they're going to be adding in the missing specs down the line for free though, so it's just a matter of time.

The 458 does desperately need a Circuit spec though, the real life 458 GT car is amazingly good looking.

They're based in France, made up of mostly french guys so partnering with Ubisoft was probably pretty convenient for them. Yes Ubi clearly had some influence in some areas, what with the AC/Far Cry-esque radio towers and such but ostensibly they are not "lol Ubisoft".

But whatever keep harping on that if you want to.

It does, it feels quiet big and vast and you can go off-road at pretty much any time you want. The fun I had just doing road trips mixed in with those randomly strewn challenges was that hooked me during the beta and made me buy it even though it has rather weird driving physics.

Sometimes I come across something weird and I think that's some made-up game bullshit, google it... but nope, somewhere in the US there's a giant cow standing near a highway exit. And somewhere else is a giant cross to show off just how christian those guys are. As a EU goon I find it a quiet fun and entertaining way to get weird tidbits of info about the US that I'd normaly only aquire by randomly surfing wikipedia.

e:
light US road-trip gameplay might be a weird reason to buy a racing game, but It was certainly worth it for me.

The giant cow is hard to miss if you drive around that area. There's a few unique little easter egg sites like that. You can find a Unicorn in East Coast, and a Sasquatch up in the mountains in the north of West Coast. There's also a UFO wreck somewhere apparently but I haven't come across that yet. Probably near Roswell.

In Other news, the Miura is one of the best Perf cars I've found which is awesome because the Miura is awesome. :colbert:

Also I get that the four starter cars can have every spec, from a gameplay perspective so not to "lock out" specs until you can afford an expensive car that has the right spec, that's fine (Not that money is hugely a problem really). They suck at the top specs though, the 370Zs circuit spec is really slow. You could complete the story in a single car though if you wanted, easy, and I guess that's what they were going for.

Re: The never ending "driving physics" debate, I think t1g4h is hitting pretty close to the mark. It's a game, and it doesn't claim to be a sim. As with any other game, you need to learn the rules of the game to play it effectively.

What you guys are doing is essentially playing Monopoly, and saying "I am a property realtor and this game does not behave how I was expecting based on my real life experiences! This is a bad game because it is not what I was expecting." It is... a reverse car analogy?

Which, you know, is alright I guess. you are disappointed and that's okay. What I can't understand iss, having been disappointed, why you all stick around and keep making GBS threads on it over and over. Oh wait, goons.

I, too, am having fun with the handling of this game, i wouldn't say the driving model is without issues, but it is serviceable despite it being wonky at times. TDU2 (I haven't played the first) had a pretty janky physicsmodel as well, and that game still has the second most playtime on my Steamaccount.

All in all, for me, it scratches that itch that TDU2 left behind, and I'm having fun even with quite some missed opportunities, but YMMV.

I am fine with things not making sense. As long as it's "not making sense" in the vein of raid spec Lamborghinis and circuit spec Hummers.

Reasons why this should happen -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuIe3TZzFZk

Thing is though we know why some specs which should be there are missing. The game was rushed out and it's already been alluded that more spec wil be added for free in the future.

Oh, hell, one of the community guys from Ubi didn't just allude to it, he flat out confirmed they're going to be adding them in as time goes by. They'll be added in for free, you have to buy them with Bucks like you would any other spec for your car. No paid DLC, they're just going to be added in as free content.

quote:

For example, the Ford F150 SVT Raptor will have all of the five specs available (Street, Dirt, Raid, Performance and Circuit) and if you don’t see them in the game already, don’t worry they’re on their way.

Indeed, many tuning specs will be added to the game in the next months and all specs will be available through Bucks.

To be clear, yes more tuning specs are coming, yes they will be available through Bucks!

Keep in mind though that all of the vehicles don’t necessarily have all of the specs and you’re not about to see a Lamborghini in a Raid spec!

They're coming, though they're not guaranteeing maximum silliness :(

Its sad its not AWD, but I like how the car itself is pretty much just a rollcage with wheels. The original Atom was wicked fast, this probably is too just because its 1/3 the weight of any other offroad vehicle.

Ugh the take down mission in the snow finally broke me, I didn't even touch the other car once and I've been trying for 30 minutes. I'm done with this game, really tried to like it and did enjoy some parts of it, but the bad stuff just outweighed the good stuff. The weird rear end handling I could deal with, the lovely rubber banding I could deal with, but combine those two together and you just end up with a frustrating experience. I'd just be happy driving around in all these cars, but it's just so loving grindy to get any sort of cash. I'm still in the first car they give you in the beginning was wanting to save up for a decent car, but gently caress it, it's not worth putting up with all the frustrations for a game that's just supposed to be driving around doing chill poo poo.

I had the same issue on that take down mission and I was using the Mustang or whatever as well. Unless you're good, forget about trying to take him down before the city, and pray you manage to do it before he leaves it because unless you buy one of the other vehicles that are more powerful, especially a Raid one then you will never catch up if you make a mistake or hit a tree.

I'm trying to take down that corrupt FBI guy now but the provided Raid vehicle for the mission has lovely handling and the terrain is even worse to try to stay on target to go through the packages to get enough to finish. You have to keep going fast, and if you slow down at any point you likely won't have enough time at the end.

There's no penalty for using back on track in a takedown mission so feel free to abuse it.

Also story missions are poop money go PvP or faction missions which are level scaled or learn to drift and do drift combos for megabux.

Also if you can't afford a car by the time you get to the snow takedown mission you must have been spending a poo poo ton of bucks on something that whole time because I had a few cars by then.
