Even though it started as a Sonic fangame, after a successful Kickstarter Campaign it became it's own thing. The game features three different characters with very different playstyles (more planned), immense levels, visceral boss fights, a killer soudtrack, and an option of choosing between an Adventure Mode with voice-acted cutscenes or the Classic Mode which is gameplay-only.
