IP masquerading, as it was called at the time, was against the terms of service and this was their gently caress you to people doing that. if they were really super-anal they did packet inspection and if the ttl was less than 63 or whatever, they'd drop your poo poo. of course people iptables'd around it but still

yeah if thats the case what is stopping any pornlord from just hitting up tor on his own modem's xfinitywifi and going NUH UH COULDA BEEN ANYBODY i did disable our hotspot, but i'm a super assbag and haven't put the comcast box in bridge mode yet so double NAT. i'm not opening any ports from the hausbus though so who cares

further reminder that xfinitywifi = free internet forever if you're smart enough to make a router script to a: increment your MAC and b: click accept on a tos page and run it every 59 minutes
