the fact that mac spoofing is not only common but a bullet-point-on-the-box feature for nearly all consumer routers is bonkers to me

yeah with the explicit "Clone This MAC" button, its so obvious lol

this was a holdover from back in the day when they used to charge you for multiple IP addresses if you wanted to have multiple computers on the Internet. IP masquerading, as it was called at the time, was against the terms of service and this was their gently caress you to people doing that.

if they were really super-anal they did packet inspection and if the ttl was less than 63 or whatever, they'd drop your poo poo. of course people iptables'd around it but still

further reminder that xfinitywifi = free internet forever if you're smart enough to make a router script to a: increment your MAC and b: click accept on a tos page and run it every 59 minutes

Xfinitywifi requires you to use your comcast login. So it can count against your 300gb/m

i havent logged onto it recently but iirc they would give one free hour a month per mac address to rando fuckers

e: also thanks for recommending motorola hardware to forums poster jonny 290 thats real considerate (im going to buy an arris i think)

zoom always struck me as bargain basement knockoff crap

negative, zoom was a very solid player back in the POTS modem days

of special note is that when i got busted trying to run out the door with a modem in my pants at the local Walmart in 1993, it was a Zoom 28.8kbps internal
