His conclusions are (of course) bullshit but his starting point is too--a lot of pre-18th century European societies deliberately spaced their children after marriage, since if you have too many kids you either have to figure out a way to feed them all or it fucks up your inheritance. Average number of kids per family in Germany in the early modern period was four.
