Studies have shown time and again that conservatives have terrible trouble recognizing and understanding satire. They completely miss it most of the time, like, thinking Colbert is serious levels of "missing it." Baldwin probably thinks the story of all of his characters is that they're making good points the other characters are too dumb to listen to.
