We don't make nearly enough fun of Nick Land (which probably has something to do with a vague unease about making fun of the mentally ill) but we really should.

In case you were curious about the original Dragon Army post

"fascist/authoritarian take on rationalist housing"
This is going to end in tears and it's going to be the tears of people who were warned repeatedly.

"Second, even the group houses seem to be plagued by the same sense of unanchored abandoned loneliness that's hitting the rationalist community specifically and the Plissken faction more generally"
Is this a thing? It doesn't sound like a thing. It does sound like a thing you'd be looking for as far as recruiting new members for a cult though.

:siren:"In my work at the Center for Applied Rationality...":siren:
this is a cult in case you were curious, specifically one that's undergoing a schism over exactly how important MIRI is (very or most)

"if they're willing to trust me more than they trust their own sense of things"
Yep.

"Likely participants in the final house spent ~64 consecutive hours in my company a couple of weekends ago, specifically to play around with living under my thumb and see whether it's actually a good place to be; "
I mean at least he's upfront about it.

"my tyranny, if net bad, has a natural time limit"
It's entirely possible he believes his own press here, but he really shouldn't.

His code of conduct is basically a checklist of what you'd do if you were setting up a cult. Really, the whole article is worth reading if you've got the time.

Basically, if you're proposing we're all going to be immortal and have unlimited resources, you should do the second part first, because otherwise the immortal people are going to use too many resources and the immortality isn't going to be fairly distributed. Eventually you'll see committed Leftists launching attacks on the immortals for what to this woman are incomprehensible reasons. She's kind of right, in that the people who are most likely to benefit from longer lives are the people who are likeliest to sell us all out in return for a chance at immortality and that'll need to be dealt with, but it's so far down the road that it's going to be a problem for our grandkids to solve.
