Is it actually possible to get your money back from bitcoin? Last I heard (a few years ago) MtGOX only let you withdraw less than $1000 a day, which kind of quashes any attempt at making money from trading them, unless you trade with people directly which is just begging to get yourself conned.

Also didn't MtGoX run off with a few million in bitcoin?

It's possible but as you note frustrating due to the withdrawal limits the exchanges have. IIRC Coinbase/GDAX and Gemini (the two most trustworthy US dollar exchanges) have a $10k/day limit (I think you can get Coinbase to increase it to $50k but that means going through their nearly non-existent customer support).

As for Mt. Gox, not quite. What happened was someone hacked them early on (around 2011 I think?) but they covered it up and started trying to trade their way out of insolvency which only ended up exacerbating the problem (and there may or may not have been further hacks as well). By 2014 it got to a point where they were pretty much out of both regular and virtual money and they had to go into bankruptcy. Ironically, Mt. Gox's creditors (who are mostly its customers) insisted on doing a liquidation bankruptcy (like chapter 7) because they were afriad that Bitcoin might never recover after the Mt. Gox scandal which meant that their debts were priced in JPY at the time the bankruptcy was filed (when Bitcoin was at around $300). Since the price of Bitcoin has increased by 26x since then (66x at the peak of the bubble in December) the value of the remaining Mt. Gox Bitcoins is now more than enough to pay off all creditors and any excess (which is in the millions) would go to the former CEO Mark Karpeles. As you can imagine Mt. Gox's customer are not very happy with this outcome.

Soylent was named in reference to a dystopia that they desperately want

Yeah. If you haven't seen the film (Soylent Green in case it wasn't clear) you really should. It's got a bit of 70s corniness (and of course the "twist" has been spoiled a million times over) but overall it holds up very well. It portrays a late-capitalist hell-hole where global warming has destroyed the environment to the point where the biggest source of food is plankton harvested from the sea and a few ounces of beef is an unimaginable luxury, and the 0.1% perpetuate a global conspiracy to retain their hold on society even if it means literally killing all life on the planet. Keep in mind this film was from the 70s! It also has one of the best-portrayed death scenes in movie history (the actor whose character was dying was himself dying IRL of cancer and Charlton Heston knew so he was barely acting).

Pretty much that. This video (originally uploaded with the title "PragerU: The Blog That Thinks It's a University") does a pretty good job breaking down and debunking one of their videos on creationism:
