I really like how they slowly teased out Quill's father and saved the real climax of that for another film. A whole movie with Spartax would be... interesting. Although with the whole ANCIENT DNA thing I wonder if they're going to be combining Peter and Adam Warlock or otherwise making him part celestial for the movieverse.

This movie was really fun and easily the best of the Marvel movies.

The post credits sequence was perfect and I heard at least 5 people in the theater groan.

Gamora was the only character in the film I did not like as much as the others. She was still awesome, and had great moments in the film but otherwise I think everyone else especially Drax was better.

Drax is seriously funny in this film and it's such a perfect role too and just works.

I knew Pratt would be incredible and Saldana is usually at least good but holy poo poo was Bautista and especially cooper loving amazing in their roles. Could've completely phoned that performance in Bradley, but holy poo poo no you did loving not. You wanted us to feel that raccoon'a pathos and oh boy did you buddy

I'm trying to remember the last cgi performance in a live action film that was as good as Bradley coopers rocket...maybe serkis' gollum? maybe?

I'm actually more surprised that since Groot only says " I am Groot" he still says it different every single time and you know what he kind of means just by inflection, which I thought was fantastic also The scene where Rocket says that stuff to Drax and goes all Boohoohoo and Groot gasps made me tear up, I don't know why it was so funny. I still giggle thinking about it.

The movie failed at some basic storytelling and some situations could have been changed and cut to fill out the the two who should be the focus, Star Lord and Gamorra and if you want throw in Drax. Rocket and Groot were fine with what we know of them. Like, wanna show us Thanos destroying her world and raising Gamorra? Want to show us Ronan slaying Drax' family? How about showing us how and why Gamorra and Nebula are so revered by some space God Thanos? Like establish them instead of coming across as some regular chicks who can get their asses kicked by a Raccoon and a Star Lord? Not impressive. Near as I can tell if they can get their asses kicked by Chris Pratt then Thanos must be a chump too who just looks badass. Ronan was...like...what the hell was Ronan? What were the Kree? What were the Xandarians for that matter? What does any of this poo poo mean?

poo poo happens, poo poo happens, but wanna just sit for a second and establish something besides rattling things off monologuing? It's like everything was done great, the look, the entertainment, the "OMG SO COOL LETS DO THIS, THEN NOW THIS, AND OVER HERE LOOK AT THIS poo poo! WHOA, IT'S LIKE WHEN WE WERE KIDS" and some done competent but poo poo all attention paid to storytelling or basic things. Yeah fun but, come on, so is Indy Jones and that functions better. So was Star Wars and that functions better.

And a lot of it was forced than a bit subdued. As usual, hopefully the sequel is better. And God I wish they could throw Whedon aside and put Gunn in for the Avengers cause I want that to look this good. If he's chosen for Avengers 3 when Thanos is the villain, it'll be good.

I liked in interviews with Saldana that she said she insisted on making Gamora as sexy as possible through the paint, because they had a lot of versions of makeup tests where she had the more comic-booky eyes and facial features that obscured her beauty. She just kept insisting that teenaged boys would have to find her character attractive because she clearly understands the unfortunate audience reaction to any onscreen heroine.

Speaking of, am I misremembering or was there a shot in the trailer where Gamora didn't have a shirt on that wasn't in the film? Glad they didn't go there. I liked the level at which they kept the Star Lord and Gamora romance. Just enough to know that these characters were attracted to each other and felt their chemistry, but no kissing or explicit talking about it. In fact, I think a trailer also had Star Lord say something along the lines of "A pretty girl like you shouldn't..." that wasn't in the film either. Thank god for that. Luckily the whole thing was somewhat subverted by Star Lord seeing Gamora as a mother (figure) near the end. They'll probably forget that for the sequel though. A shame, because I like Star Lord being a Kirk-like space floozy, bonin' his way through the galaxy, probably encountering a lot of strange genitalia he's adapted to by this point.

Hey Gatts, out of all Acusers in the Kree Empire is Ronan a title or was it always his name? For some reason I got the feeling that this accuser and his ship didn't really speak all that much for the Kree and he was just on his own crazy rear end self. That said they would have probably fit right in with the Necromongers, Lee Pace was appropriately chewing scenery totally dug his grandiose insane villain. This movie was awesome and made me want to get its orchestral soundtrack and its awesome mix soundtracks. Groot = Wood Iron Giant and that's a bad as a compliment.

I was utterly floored at how great the simple timing on all the jokes were. They're all these really predictable subversive type stuff, but they're so great on the timing that they somehow are the funniest goddamn thing in the world.

My only regret with the flick is that Rocket didn't at any point yell "Blam! Murdered you" like in the recent reboot comics.

I REALLY NEED TO SHUT THE FUCK UP FOREVER.
Frankly I think it's one of the best super hero movies ever made. It's a loving blast and paced super well and just FUN. Good luck, JJ Abrams' Star Wars! As a guy born in the 80s and obsessed with Ghostbusters and Starwars, this was, like, a new version of that and almost just as good if I am trying to be honest and not blinded by the nostalgia factor of my childhood. Since the first X Men and Spiderman, I've been waiting for a really good superhero movie, and yeah, there have been a few (for me, until this, my favorite was Dark Knight Returns) but this is just such exactly what I think a super hero movie SHOULD be. It had stakes, heart, looked slick as gently caress and was just a fun flick through and through.

I don't usually get overly attached to movies but man I hope Guardians does insane numbers or something because I want more of the esoteric Marvel things made into films. Give us our Journey into Mystery movie.

Someone else mentioned earlier it got a little syrupy at points and that's fair but I'll put it down to not really having a little miniseries to drag the pathos out more naturally. Fuckin' great film otherwise though.

I really liked the movie, but I have to agree with all of this. The movie felt overstuffed, to be honest. Also it felt really forced how everyone talks about Gamora as this assassin and everyone's scared of her. But they immediately believe her when she says "oh but I don't want all these people to get hurt so I'm actually good and heroic." There's nothing in the movie that shows she's a heartless assassin or anything like that. She can be a character that hates Thanos and is forced into being an assassin. But they have to show it, instead of just having her mention it once in the prison. And they have absolutely no reason to trust her.

That's right. Here it is. But it's like you always have compared the sword, the making of the sword, with the making of the character. Cuz the stronger, the stronger it will get, right, the stronger the steel will get, with all that, and the same as with the character.
