Griffith Nathan campus is uglier than I remember. Just passed a group loudly talking about how privatising education would be a good thing. Any of you study here?

Having lived and studied at Nathan in the past I can confirm that the majority of people who I had the misfortune of encountering in student politics were a special breed of dickhead and would accost you when you were studying to try and milk a vote out of you without actually providing any information on who they about what they stood for.

One genius campaign sales pitch I came across was "Just sign here and I will leave you alone to study"

Yeah I don't know how the gently caress these guys got work at The Beat if they are Transphobic? It's, to my knowledge, the most famous LGBT destination in the city. What did they expect when they started working there?

Surely they aren't on the Beat payroll and were sourced through a security company like famous assholes Wilsons? Who will probably give them a slap on the wrist or make jokes about it in the office.

SERIOUS/UNRELATED TOPIC EDIT:

So a close family friend of my girlfriend recently had a lung transplant and is now having a number of problems associated with that and posted the following on facebook - I've paraphrased so it's not tldr; for goons:

quote:

Guys, I need your help. Cairns Hospital are trying to wipe their hands of me. They are too understaffed & want Brisbane to take over my plasma exchange. That means moving back to Brisbane indefinitely. My Specialist spent all morning convincing them this is a bad idea as my whole support network is in Cairns. For now, Cairns have agreed to continue on.

I need a tablet called eculizumab for a condition called Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome. The drug company has agreed to supply the tablet for me provided the hospital/government pay for the first 2 to see if it works. The tablet is $35000 a pop. If you have a spare 5 minutes please write to our local MP, I have been going to Warren Entsch, & help me get my life back.

I know a couple of people are writing Lawrence Springborg. Are you guys aware of any other course of action? Is this something where it is worthwhile trying to tee-up Senators, MP's outside of her area?

I really want to emphasise your friend needs legal advice and support.

You can get pleasant wishes, and vague promises of action. But you really need it in black and white that Cairns hospital has a duty of care and they'd be failing their duty of care by sending you away to Brisbane and your support network. It will also give your friend a little piece of mind that he knows exactly where he stands and exactly what he's entitled to.

Thanks for this, Epipen too. I've directed Sarah to try and write Senators/MP's that have medical portfolios/history.

Also stressed the importance of legal advice.

So what is negative gearing, and what are these superannuation tax concessions I keep seeing allusions to, and why are they both allegedly so bad?

Negative gearing:
Basically, you borrow money to buy an investment property BUT don't receive enough income from the rental income to cover the interest and upkeep (Rates etc). However, the shortfall, in Australia, is tax deductible.

This is a big reason for the awful property bubble we have. In Canada it's gone to the extreme where they have the $1,000,000 houses that look like there will be a sub clause in the contract regarding used syringes and crackpipes. Someone in the industry might be able to explain it better.

It's like a bus, but for dickheads!

But seriously there aren't many (any) people living in Mernda or Caroline Springs who would be able to afford a $30/day bus fare

"I was quite nervous about calling it SuitJet. The demographic is white-collar workers, everyone from the receptionist to the junior accountant through to the middle management," he said.

Yeah, they're going to spend a full hours pay, every day, on a loving bus, not only can they get to work, at the exact same time as before if they already were catching a bus, but they can spend the time with the rear end in a top hat boss/marketing exec/accountant/lawyer who talks to them like poo poo all day.

I don't know what parking is like in Melbourne but you can drive to work and park all day on an 'early bird' special for less than that in Brisbane.
So unless they're serving liquor I fail to see the added value.

fake edit : $20 all day parking Galleria early bird. (If you wan't to give money to known scumbags Wilsons).
