- It's not as bad as, say, Groton in terms of running off every single respectable human being and institution, but the spread is much larger

Hey now.
Groton can blame any current shittiness and lack of respectable human beings on the indian casinos* loving up the area.
*only valid from 1996 onwards. aka the year the 2nd indian casino "mohegan sun" opened up.

Before that, Groton had no excuse for it's shittiness besides "guess how many superfund projects will be active this year".

gently caress that, I'm trying to get the Navy to pay for it. :D

if you're serious about getting out and you have some leave & $$$ banked up, consider paying for real courses from cisco, vmware, microsoft, oracle, etc.
it hurts your wallet but you make it back in tax rebates the next year, as long as you file the correct tax deduction forms for education expenses.

I'm not trying to do that all that. I just want to get better at using Excel. And I want the Navy to pay for me to go do it. That is all. :D

thats cool, excel knowledge is pretty useful.

i had you confused with one of the people desperately trying to escape from the Navy, which is why i dropped that advice.
anyway, the advice is valid for anyone going for any kind of certification, or even attending trade shows to "further your education".
