Fart Sandwiches posted:When you crossrated you should have gone CTN. No sea duty. Desk job. Easy livin. Also chief numbers are at 60% advance and are probably going up next year. I didn't actually cross rate. I'm still a Nav ET. And what does it take to make Chief in my rating? An ANAV tour.... Which I cannot do here. So, in pretty much boned for a few more years until I can battle to get out of here.

tuluk posted:Hey now. tuluk posted:Hey now. Groton goes in waves. If the rumor mill is saying the base could be closed down, then the general public LOVES us and treats us well. Now that they built the new commissary and a lot of new buildings, expect the long haul of shittiness. Instructors tell students to register their cars in CT and never wear a uniform item out in town so they don't become targets, because we're hated. Best thing about Groton: if you or you have a family member with some sort of medical issue, they have no place to treat it. So that means instant referral to Yale, Hasbro or Boston Children's Hospital, etc.... For the Servicemember sometimes they send you TAD to Portsmouth NMC haha.

Last night was the pre deployment meeting. Highlight was the free child care of like two dozen kids by three or four chief selectees.

vulturesrow posted:Anyone heard of people using TAD money to go to computer skills courses and poo poo like that? In Hampton Roads area, at Tidewater Community College, you can use T.A. for a Coast Guard licensing course. Like driver's ed for ships. It's a "credentialing" course and I would imagine there are several for computers. Why not just take college courses and earn your CCNA certification?

vulturesrow posted:Because I'm not trying to get a CCNA? And I have no desire to gently caress around with TA. I just want to go take an Excel course and I've heard rumors of people convincing their commands to send them TAD for stuff like that even though they aren't Navy schools/courses. Just wondering if anyone here has actually witnessed this. How longs the class? I've seen people get no cost TAD for a couple weeks
