the reason people enjoy postcasts (besides the source material) is that the person presenting it usually is interesting and adds their own flare, hth
find well-written books about topics you're interested in that covers material that is largely new to you for one reason or another, doesn't seem all that complex tbh

you can do this exact same thing with podcasts, it's not really a difficult concept to grasp and i'm not really understanding why you have a hate boner for them

yes but the pool of good content is relatively limited, whereas there are lots and lots and lots of books (even if lots and lots of historians can't write to save their loving lives). it's an underrated method imo

people who write horrible academic texts and people who are willing and able to produce even competent podcasts are pretty much two separate circles

If you want a sports podcast, I like the Punch Drunk podcast. They do something called bag of bets where they randomly pull out a punishment for whatever thing they bet on. Sam Tripoli lost a bet and had to watch 2 hours of gay porno after taking viagra. Luckily that episode is on youtube in video form. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRFEorSeYCI

If you like The Daily Show or John Oliver's Last Week in News, you should probably listen to The Bugle. It's currently in hiatus, though. If you don't like those shows, I'd recommend Stop Podcasting Yourself. It's a pretty funny 'interview' podcast hosted by two Canadians.

a lot of accredited historians and educators have podcasts, even though someone like dan carlin isn't a history major by trade doesn't mean his shows aren't interesting, well presented and accurate
