Friction posted:Speaking of TIE Advanced. What happens to your dices with Accuracy Corrector + Adv. Targeting Computer? 2 hits or 2hits + crit? I don't think there are any shops that can legally use that combination but as I recall you are unable to further modify dice after accuracy corrector so it would be either 2 hits (AC) or roll + crit (ATC) at your choice.

So after 2 years of casual play I've finally found a small store tournament I can go to. Now I need to get better at this game. Thinking of a brace of defenders, probably Countess Ryad with x7 title, Push the Limit and Twin Ion Engine Mk 2 as one and and X7/Mark 2 defender but not sure what to take for the rest of the points. Omega Leader is always a solid choice but seems a bit fragile. Might take “Omega Leader” + Comm Relay + Juke + Stealth Device (29) Countess Ryad + Push the Limit + TIE/x7 + Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (36) Colonel Vessery + Crack Shot + TIE/x7 + Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (35) Alternatively I may take the Upsilon, it looks nasty and potentially not a lot of the opposition will be used to it. My initial thought was Countess Ryad + Push the Limit + TIE/x7 (35) Delta Squadron Pilot + TIE/x7 (28) Starkiller Base Pilot + General Hux + Kylo Ren's Shuttle (37) But on reflection I'm not sure I can keep the Defenders close enough to benefit from Hux, perhaps this might be better Countess Ryad + Push the Limit + TIE/x7 (35) Delta Squadron Pilot + TIE/x7 (28) Major Stridan + Operations Specialist + Kylo Ren's Shuttle (37) I like this better, I think. I prefer Twin Ion Engine Mk 2 on my Defenders, I could drop the Upsilon title and free the points but a little stress management out to range 3 might be helpful against Midlink lists. Any comments and advice welcome.

canyoneer posted:Ryad, Vessery and O Leader are a kick in the pants. O Leader's ability synergizes really well with Vessery, because O Leader wants to grab a target lock and keep it forever. Thing is, a fully loaded O Leader is 29 points, which is a Palpshuttle. I think chances are you're going to get better value from Palpatine. Yeah probably should mention I don't have Palpatine so that option is not available.

Tried the first and last lists tonight with my brother (who will also be going to this tournament). The Omega Leader list wiped his Brobots for no losses, felt comfortable and clean. The Major Striden list crept a win against a mix of scum fighters and a YV-666 with Latz and title but I lost the Upsilon on the first pass. I really don't know how to fly out so I'll be leaving it at home this time. Let's see if I can get done more practice in before the big day.

Absolutely doomed. It can be confusing, a lot of slang and nicknames get used here and it still confuses me but I can middle my way through. It's definitely worth picking up the new The Force Awakens core set, lots of extra options and doubles your templates for convenience. Plus the new damage deck is pretty good.

A bit less impressive than the Opens but I played in the store tournament I mentioned a while back. First for me, 5 of us with 2 experienced tournament players plus myself and 2 other novices (including my brother). Friendly crowd, I was a bit nervous that there would be a real hardcore vibe but everyone was quite relaxed. I ran Countess Ryad + TIE/x7 + Push the Limit + Twin Ion Engine Mark II Colonel Vessery +TIE/x7 + Crack Shot + Twin Ion Engine Mark II Omega Leader + Juke + Comm Relay + Stealth Device Round 1 I played a guy who I think was quite inexperienced. He ran Roark Garnet + Blaster Turret Blackmoon Squadron Pilot Red Squadron Pilot Blue Squadron Pilot This was a pretty straightforward dogfight. He deployed spread across from my left to right B-wing, E-wing, HWK-290 and X-wing. I set the Defenders a base apart at the edge of deployment and Omega Leader just behind. He slow rolled and turned in towards me, I rushed him, burnt down the B-wing and he pretty much allowed me to run back and forth around him picking off the HWK-290 and E-wing in reasonably short order for the loss of Omega Leader. I did make a cock up and 4-straighted with Vessary as a mis-dial but happily he had turned out of position. Mopping up the X-wing only took 2 turns after that Result: Win 100/29 Round 2 I drew a very experienced player who went on to take the tournament. He was playing around with his lists and went with Whisper+ Veteran Instincts + Rebel Captive + Tactical Jammer Major Striden + Kylo Ren's Shuttle + Intelligence Agent + Systems Officer Wampa I was comprehensively outflown. He set Wampa and Striden in the left corner as I looked on with Striden in the very corner facing parallel to his edge and Wampa touching at 45 degrees to him and Whisper over to my right. I set exactly as I had the game before. I rushed up the left flank again whilst he brought Striden and Wampa slowly up just to the right of me. My game plan was to burn down Striden, take Wampa when the opportunity arose then finish Whisper with what I had left. I lost the match when I banked the Defenders in to the right, predicting where his Upsilon and TIE fighter would be for the shot but leaving Vessery at range 1 of Striden with Whisper at range 2 of the back off him. Vessary was gone in that round in exchange for Striden's shields. After that I realised I was going to struggle to take down his ship so went for as many points as I could. He used Striden to keep Whisper cloaked, focused and locked on me, saving Whisper's action for barrel rolls. Ryad took 4 hull from Striden but his stress shenanigans left me double stressed and unable to keep him in arc. I switched to Wampa and wiped him but Whisper got behind a shieldless Ryad and she was done. I took Omega Leader wide and had to burn his evade to save the last hull point after an astounding range 3 shot from Whisper (4 hits, only rolled 1 evade, lost my shield and stealth device earlier in the engagement), ended up in a range 3 joust with 1 hull left against his Upsilon. Dice went his way. Excellent match, a real lesson in how to fly and a couple of times if the dice had shifted my way I could have taken him. Result: Loss 34/100 Round 3 I drew the bye. In the end my brother narrowly lost (78/100) with a brobot build (B+C with title + Electronic Baffles +, Inertial Dampners + Autothrusters + Predator + Heavy Laser Cannon) to my round 1 opponent. Honestly this was a bit of a mess as neither was fully au fait with the rules and I think that my brother could have taken it at the end. My round 2 opponent tabled without loss the 2nd place player with a really odd list Kylo Ren + Trick Shot + Inspiring Recruit + Hyperwave Comm Scanner Tomax Bren + Crack Shot + Cluster Missiles + Concussion Missiles + Seimic Charge + Extra Munitions + Guidance Chips Omega Leader + Trick Shot + Comm Relay + Stealth Device Funnily enough Tomax was focused down fast, followed by Omega Leader whilst the Upsilons bumped until his was cleared up. With the bye I placed second on MoV, got the alt art Swam Tactics and a set of tractor beam tokens. Really enjoyed myself and would play again. Need a LOT more practice first though, I'd say.

I've been running Imperials for a while and I can see the TIE Silencer swapping out for a TIE Defender in several lists, especially if the dial is less predictable. The Bomber I think is a pass. Not really a lot in it for me. One positive here is that these make the Resistance and the First Order more complete as factions, I can see a few pure First Order lists being viable and this is only the third Resistance ship. I wonder if the design team are planning to divide the old and new factions in the future.

Well I've gone and found a tournament I can make so now I'm heading down to Weekend Warlords in Loughborough on 7th January for what is technically my second tournament. I'm suddenly nervous as hell as they are quite a competitive club. Frankly my aim is to win one game if I can. So now I need to build a list, does anyone know if any of the list builders have updated for Waves XII and XIII yet?

Tournament report: Weekend Warlods Sunday monthly This was my second tournament but the first was a 5 player affair and this had 32 players including some of the names from the UK scene. Quite intimidating especially as I haven't played since early November! I decided to run my TIE Aggressor/TIE Bomber list but wasn't really happy with it and yesterday swapped it about to add Captain Jonus. I brought Sienar Specialist + Twin Laser Turrer + Lightweight Frame (25) Sienar Specialist + Twin Laser Turrer + Lightweight Frame (25) 'Deathfire' + Unguided Rockets + Proximity Mine + Lightweight Frame (24) Captain Jonus + Unguided Rockets + Trick Shot + Lightweight Frame (26) Plan was Jonus supports the TLT Aggressors so they don't need tokens for offence and Deathfire is another set of Unguided Rockets and drops a Proximity Mine on/in front of a high agility target for some bonus damage. With four ships of similar value and utility I reckoned that target priority would be tricky for my opponents. My aim for the day was to win a match. Nothing more, nothing less. I may have missed a few details of the lists but this was how my day went. Round 1 'Deathfire' + Harpoon Missiles + Proxximity Mines + Extra Munitions + Lightweight Frame 'Deathrain' + Unguided Rockets + Trajectory Simulator + Bomblet Generator 'Quickdraw' + Special Ops Training + Fire Control System + Pattern Analyser This couldn't have been a worse start to the day. I rolled up with my ships at range 1 of Jonus to use his ability, with bomblet and trajectory I guess you can see the problem. I kept my ships together for too long and got hammered with a bomblet then my first experience of Harpoon Missiles. Ouch. It didn't go well. Loss 100-0 Round 2 So I downgraded my aim for the day to kill a ship. MY next opponent brought more harpoons... Major Vynder + OS-1 Arsenal Loadout + Harpoon Missile + Advanced Slam 'Quickdraw' + Special Operations Training + Fire Control System + Fire Control System Omega Leader + Veteran Instincts + Advanced Optics My opponent was a genuine class act, great fun throughout. I formed up (as I did throughout the day) with the Aggressors at the front and the bombers inside in an offset formation and rolled them up the left of the board slowly. He had put Omega Leader in front of them, then Vynder in the middle and Quickdraw on the far side. I hammered Omega Leader down in not quite two rounds of firing then my dice were as hot as his was cold. Exchanged Deathfire for Vynder and then it was two TLT TIE Aggressors with Jonus modding their dice against Quickdraw on two shields. Shields went the next round for a couple of Jonus's hull points then it was game for me. Win 100-24 Round 3 Having met my aim I was relaxing more and could really enjoy myself. After lunch I played Dalton of the Three Stooges X-wing podcast. 'Quickdraw' + Special Operations Training + Fire Control System + Harpoon Missile + Ruthlessness + Lightweight Frame Rho Squadron Pilot + OS-1 Arsenal Loadout + Harpoon Missiles + Ruthlessness + Long Range Scanners Rho Squadron Pilot + OS-1 Arsenal Loadout + Harpoon Missiles + Ruthlessness + Long Range Scanners The giimmick was pretty obvious and his harpoons were firing at the same range as my TLTs. This was a problem. I changed by game plan and rushed forward towards him, still in formation. I ate a ruthless harpoon and exchanged one TIE Aggressor and took a scattering of damage across the others for Quickdraw's shields and some damage on one of the Rho Squadron pilots. I'd already started to striike forward with Deathfire and the next round, neither Alpha-class able to reload yet, I dropped a proximity mine on Quickdraw which triggered and took him off the board. Then the chase began. I got one Rho to one hull and stripped a shield off the other but I couldn't pin them down and eventually he got the harpoons off again and tabled me. Loss 100-39 Round 4 Captain Nym (Rebel) + Bomblet Generator + Autoblaster Turret + 'Genius' + Trajectory Simulator (+ something I missed) Norra Wrexley + R2D2 + Alliance Overhaul + Sabine + Ion Bomb Green Squadron Pilot + Cruise Missile + Deadeye + Saturation Salvo This was simply the most fun match I had all day. Nym went from full health to 1 hull in two turns then to avoid a bomblet I managed to run over every drat rock and lost both TIE Aggressors in exchange for Nym. Ok, not ideal but I had two bombers with Unguided Rockets against a generic A-wing and a regenning Norra. Ok, i thought, I can at least take out the A-wing and then maybe burn down Norra, right? I hit every rock and rolled every damage I could against myself for debris, asteroids and console fires then did nothing to him. Despite this I had a blast, it was so good natured. In the end Captain Jonus was on two hull, on a rock with Stunned Pilot. I took a damage for moving off the rock, actually avoided the asteroid damage then ate the Sabine Ion Bomb I forgot all about to end the match. Laughed my arse off on that one, it was that sort of a game. Loss 100-38 Round 5 I was tired by now but it was a pretty standard RACLo and Vader build. By now I was tired and my opponent seemed exhausted. I didn't enjoy this one that much, he was taciturn to the point I couldn't really tell what he was doing and he was so impatient he was doing my manoeuvres for me before I had a chance. I made the mistake of trying to kill Vader and missed out on half points for RACLo by one hull. Loss 100-0 I made 31 of 32 (far better than I hoped) and managed to win a match. Really good day and lovely people to the point one of the top ten gave me his alt art Omicon Group Pilot as he already had it. Really positive experience. Things I learnt: Its exhausting playing for that long. Practice would be great! People hate TLTs more than is perhaps rational and the number of times they took both Aggressors and left the supporing Captain Jonus untouched and enhancing them was surprising. Deathfire wasn't really pulling his weight in this list, I think I'm going to find another way to spend 24 points. Its great having a plan but I need to known when to break formation.

AndyElusive posted:What was he doing? Just throwing the templates down and moving your ships for you after your maneuver reveal? Sometimes peeps like to do that as a helpful gesture but there's definitely times where it can be a bit much if done too often. Basically if I couldn't immediately place the template he was moving the ship without a word. He was knackered and he was fine before and after but between that and his sparse, abrupt communication it wasn't great fun. Talking after he'd been up the night before and was basically out on his feet so I wouldn't hold it against him.
