Im planning an X-Wing event at my place.

We will be playing on a 4 x 8 table, at one side will be this

But the top and bottom will have the rounded parts as well so it will be a 4/5 circle, and the rebels will start at the opposite table, we are playing a super epic game, 4 Tantives 3 transports a ton of YTs, and countless fighters, against an empire armada, with station laser turrets and 4 Devastators.

I don't care if the scale isn't right, it will be awesome.

Edit:

Here are the top and bottom sets and one of the Laser turrets.

Has there been any info on what the Skirmish rules are that come with Imperial Assault? I can dream of a tabletop skirmish game, but I am willing to bet its just 1v1 on their tiled game board.

So to my understanding ImpAssault comes with 34 figures, but are all generic troops, all of the named characters have counters to represent them, the point of getting the figure expansions is to replace the named character counters with figures. I have everyone of the character / monster expansions for Descent 2e, and the content that comes with them is great. No reason for me not to get them all for ImpAssault either. I dont think we have had any info on the Skirmish game, but I bet it will be grid based like StarWars Minis was, just using these tiles and dice system.

Im loving the look of this prduct, but I wish it used the dice system from FFG SWRP.

edit: if you read the expansions write up, its more than just a figure and scenario, it also comes with command cards and equipment cards similar to wave expansions in X-Wing.

Looks like Pricing rumors on ImpAss are wrong, my distributor just sent an update for preorders.

ImpAss $99.59
Dice Pack $11.95
General Weiss $19.95
Single Figures-
Royal Guard
IG-88
Han Solo
Chewbacca $9.95
Rebel Toppers $14.95
Rebel Saboteurs $12.95

The prices arent bad I dont think, and with the usual online discounts you all should be able to get it around the rumored prices.

Im kinda supprised, their scale is a little better that I thought they would be, seems pretty close to actuall 28mm where the Descent guys were all a but small.

Im going to sub almost all of them for my WotC star wars minis thoguh, no painting needed :D

It looks like the models require primer cuz they're not pre-painted. Anyone know what the material is? (Please don't say restic) :ohdear:

Im sure its the same plastic FFG uses in all of their games.

Can people who bought Impasse confirm whether the models take kindly to primer or not? That might actually be the big decision maker for me.

Its the same material as Descent they take it just fine, got my copy on Monday.

Imagine resin models that have release agent caked in so badly that it persist after soaking/scrubbing with IPA and industrial-strength soap, that's pretty much what Descent minis are. If you're willing to go very very slowly with more layers so it can bite in properly (yes it needs primer for primer :v:) and are OK with weaker paint coats, they're doable but definitely not my preferred kind of plastic.

This is a load of BS. I painted my Descent miniatures with one 30 min soak in water with dish soap, and 1 coat of primer.

I played the first mission in the campaign on Friday, its very similar to Descent 2nd Edition, its fast and pretty enjoyable, one of the major changes is that the turn order is switched up, the heroes activate one character, then the Imperial player activates one deployment card, then they alternate like that until everything is deployed, this makes things a lot more interesting. I think the game should be played with four heroes for sure though, playing with only two gives each heroe a legnedary item to start with (which is way OP and and if they get say a really good gun, they wont be looking forward to upgrading ever) and if there are three each player gets a heroic item.

The missions are fun, and they have a lot of events similar to the way the campaigns are written for Edge of the Empire.

Everyone that played had fun and we cant wait to play again, this time with a full group and a dedicated campaign.

I can see the skirmish system beign enjoyable too, each side gets 40 deployment poitns to build their force then they play a skirmish scenario.

Just a nitpick, you don't get a legendary/heroic item for starting with 2/3 players, you get a specific award card called Legendary/Heroic, which gives you extra HP and activation tokens to make up for not having 4 heroes in the game.

Oh that makes much more sense! Obviously I misunderstood that.

There is cover but not the way you are thinking. They changes the way you do line of sight, You have to trace a line from a single corner of your units / figures square to TWO of the targets corners. The lines CANNOT overlap. This means that you can be in a position where your figure has LOS on a target, and it does NOT have los on your figure.

This is taken from pg 26 of the Rules Reference.

Which can be found here.

All you have to do is read through the quick play book once and you know all the basics, then look at the reference for any rules questions that come up. Was pretty simple for my group and I to figure it out.

I walked past the gaming shop in the middle of town and it had armada in the window. I thought it wasn't out retail till the 16th.

The shipping date from the distributors (the actual release date) was March 25th, Fantasy Flight does NOT do street/retail dates. So shops are allowed to sell them as soon as they get in, since I am 48 hours from my distributor I wont have mine until today.

We frequently had to move multiple squadrons out of the way to make room for the template. There are rules for when a capital ship ends up on top of fighters, but they really shouldn't be moving if just the template crosses them. At least in X-wing you have the straight 1 and 2 if you need to temporarily move a ship and place it back exactly where it was, Armada doesn't have anything like that. We basically just resorted to using our fingers to mark where the fighters should be while we placed the maneuver template, but will that fly in a tournament?

Capital ships weren't as much of an issue because the Star Destroyer annihilates the rebel ships before they can close anyway.

Any other questions you have?

I solved this by NOT putting the 0 ruler on the ship, if the ship is moving 2, then put the end of it on the ship, so the 2 link, this way it only extends out as far as the ship is moving and doesnt overlap a bunch of stuff.

Ive played a couple games and like it a lot, its very different from X-wing which is good, they dont replace each other and can target different audiences. Personally I like Armada more than X-Wing.

The Escort Frigate is a really nice ship, but you can't let it get close to the imp ships at all. Those huge side arcs are amazing for cutting down fighters but they are also a huge weakness because you only have 1 shield in those zones.

I think you might be doing this wrong, ships can only fire on Squadrons with their anti squadron weaponry, and it doesn't matter what arc you use, it still counts as one of your two attacks as well.

Not sure what you mean with this. The Escort Frigate gets 2 blue dice with it's anti-squadron weapons, the most out of any ship in the core set. In addition it's wide side arcs mean that you can get an attack against a lot of squadrons in one attack action. You realise that when you attack with anti-squadron weapons you get an attack against EVERY squadron in range and in that arc right? (Page 15 of the learn to play book, last section on that page).

I did not know that, thanks for pointing it out, it now makes sense that you said that huge arc was so important. They only fire at Range 1 though dont they?

You can already buy one of each legendary and two of each other card as a set for $300 which is much cheaper than cracking packs. If you're looking to seriously play do that.

This makes zero sense, statistically, they need to open something like 5.6 boxes to get a full set, and the booster boxes cost them $60, so $336, they are basically promising to sell them at a loss.

My local store just had the pre-launch party, had 18 people show up and everyone had a great time. I think this game is going to do very well. Interested to see how the singles market develops though.

Collectible, random boosters.

I'm told by someone who likes the game that since the decks are pretty small, you're not cracking open entire cases to find the cards you want. No idea if that's true, maybe he's justifying his purchase

If you break it down mathematically,

The Set has:
17 legendary
44 Rares
42 Uncommons
58 Commons

Each box has
6 legendary
30 Rares
36 Uncommons
108 Commons

Here are your odds of getting a set of 1 of each of the legendary based on the number of boxes you open

5 boxes = 2.2%
6 boxes = 9.0%
7 boxes = 20.9%
8 boxes = 35.3%
9 boxes = 49.6%
10 boxes = 62.1%
11 boxes = 72.2%
12 boxes = 80.0%
13 boxes = 85.7%

6 boxes per case btw. Should also note that a box is $107.64 + tax at full retail.

You do need two hits on every unique character to have access to the elite version of that character.

With the exception of Kylo Ren and Rey, yes this is correct. however Ive found so far that fielding most Elites is very hard to do, I pulled Vader at the pre=release party, and I dont think he is worth his elite status, his dice sides are alright, but he has no special, so id rather run him with an elite Kylo Ren. Vader is pointed at 16/21.
