The rudest cat for the rudest jobs

Well, it's finally over. Someone here was throwing around some seeds for a game, one of them was a Hutt having an ancient Sith body they were trying to resurrect or something and it turned into a 2 and some change year game that started with a heist to steal a bunch of bacta. There were thrills, chills, a landspeeder dropped from low orbit, and some party members almost killing each other all culminating in a fight aboard a Star Destroyer where the party killed two inquisitors and the resurrected Sith.

I can't find that post anymore, but thank you, forums user, it was a good seed!

This thread bump reminds me, if anyone hasn't been paying attention to the Edge facebook page. Probably a good 4+ months out given the state of things, but good news regardless

A wolf was no less a wolf because a whim of chance caused him to run with the watch-dogs.

That is especially good news given the weird articles going around awhile back that they were creating a new game

I've always hated the EotE intro adventure where the PCs start in a cantina hiding from Temp's goons. I love starting games in media res but that start is boring and I hate it. Is there a modified version out there with a better opener? The rest of the adventure is mostly fine.

The cantina is just a combat tutorial followed by letting the players know where to go next, set it anywhere

Yeah, I’d just start them off in the cantina and let then free roam if they have experience. Throw in the thugs if they spend too long discussing possible plans. Or do you still want a structured first few encounters, just snappier?

It would be a group of people that have never used the system before, besides a couple people that played the (badly run) starter adventure for the L5R RPG which was different enough. I dunno, I need to think about it more I guess.

New to the system, or new to tabletop RPGs in general? And will they be using the pregens, or their own characters?

I kind of find it a bit iffy in that one that the Krayt Fang stuff is all delivered in a clunky expo dump after the fight, and the PCs all wind up hiding in the same bar regardless of how they escaped or when. If I was going to rejig it:
  • The PCs all arrive at the spaceport (individually or in groups) in a rush looking for the first ship off-world. If they're not using pregens, ask them why they need to get off-world and away from Teemo ASAP.
  • Front desk is on lunch break so they can all mill in the waiting room for a bit, bond over their clear need for transport off-world.
  • The staff at the front desk tell them there's no ships expected for a day or two, and anyway the main dock is busy.
  • Prompts them to ask about it 'why not the ship in that dock'? Well, it's broken, besides it belongs to a bounty hunter who works for Teemo - I don't think he takes passengers unless they're in carbonite!
  • They can ask about how to fix it, and this is where you start requiring social checks and introduce the dice mechanics.
  • Throw in the Gammoreans after this bit if needs be.
Gives the PCs a bit more agency rather than having all the info on how to escape just thrown into their lap.

Couple players newish to RPGs but we've been playing a 5e game for about six months and they're getting into the roleplaying part. I have all the pregen folios but I'm considering letting them build their own. Just Edge careers but probably a wide selection of species because they love playing non-humans.

Thanks for those ideas, definitely things to consider!

You can hear the voice
Telling you to Love
It's the voice of MK Ultra
And you're doing what it wants
I honestly like the opening for what it is; the party is meant to open their pregen chars, look at the skills and let their imagination fly in how to solve "find a hiding spot" with the information on their sheet. Do you literally hide with stealth roll? Do you try to climb up into the rafters? Pretend to be a performer or member of the staff? Sweet talk the bartender to let you hide? It's supposed to introduce you to how skill checks are resolved before you get into your first battle.

Is there an Etsy or other shop that sells more character tokens? I have a bunch from the beginner games and the ability to make my own but I'd rather someone else do the work and I just pay them.

So, foundry havers, question: is it possible to import custom stuff from oggdude? The import is asking for a zip of the data directory but that isn't where that stuff is stored

Also, anyone have any good sources for star warsy maps, ship layouts, tokens, etc? Free or paid, I'm not opposed to spending money if there's good stuff on dtrpg or Patreon or something

Should should be able to do it.

Import the normal data first,

then Zip up the Data Custom and import that and it should work.

As the custom data has the same file structure as the normal data.

I'm putting together an encounter in which I want to have a bunch of individual minions group up as the fight goes on so as to indicate to the players that they need to deal with this problem early on. I can't find anything one way or the other about this in the rules. My main question is one of how to handle the initiative as they group up - is there any guidance as to which slots to remove from the track?

Or am I thinking about this all wrong and the slots don't move off the track at all, and it's just the eligibility to use them changes? To give an example, let's say we have three minions, operating in initiative slots 6, 4, and 2 (descending, and very generalized). Two of the minions group up on the first round. During the second round, we would still have NPC slots at 6, 4, and 2, but only two of those slots can be used. Is this a better way of thinking about it?

I would treat it the same way as an npc dying, you just drop the last npc slot because no npc is available to take it.

Or, if you want to be a right bastard, let them act twice :)

If you want to completely murder your players, leave the initiatives in the stack - a minion group is exponentially more dangerous than an individual minion as it grows, and letting a group go multiple times will reduce players to atoms.

In-fiction, I think it makes the most sense for the minions to lose initiative slots - after all, what makes them a group is that they're acting in unison, which detracts from the flexibility that acting alone gives you, in exchange for greater focuses firepower. Since that's slower, probably dropping the highest initiative makes the most sense, unless they're some kind of specialist that is extra quick/coordinated/good at teamwork/whatever.

I would leave same initiative slots, no going twice, but as slots are left unfilled the remaining opponents use the most advantageous initiatives. So if you have three groups of minions opposing the party and one group gets wiped out, one initiative slot would be left unfilled unless reinforcements arrived, the remaining two groups would use the two better initiatives and leave the third empty.

Yet where is that woman now? Tell me, in what heave does she reside? None of them. Because no God bothered to listen or care. If that is what you think it means to be a God, then you and all your teachings are welcome to do as that poor women did. And vanish from these realms forever.
We ever getting any more books? I am an addict and need a Star Wars RPG dopamine hit.

This is functionally what I was clumsily saying in my example and what I ended up doing last night. I’m happy to say it went well and the message of “take care of this problem before it snowballs” was clearly received.

Rewatching Andor (Andor spoilers coming) the "inciting incident" that sets off the plot really could be read as one of those "what the Hell do I do with this" dice rolls.

The GM let Cassian roll some advantage from his previous bluffs into his Brawl roll, and decided this was a narratively tense enough moment to flip a couple Destiny to upgrade the difficulty of the attack.

Deigo: "Okay I go for the nonlethal takedown on the one right behind me with a weird reverse headbutt into judo flip move. That comes out to 3 uncancelled successes, 3 advantage, and uhh 2 despair."

Right? The books are just sitting on my shelves unloved, and the setting has pretty much never felt more accusable and open from a real lived-in grounds-eye view.

And it looks like the Edge reprints are going to start hitting the shelves tomorrow in the US from everything I can see, so good timing on that.

I tried this. People turned into fascist shitbirds real fast and I killed the game because it became gross.

EDIT: To clarify, one player became a mega-fascist shitbird and sucked all the air out of the room and drove off the other players.

Yeah I can't imagine wanting to run a game where the session 0 buy-in wasn't good guys or at least antiheroes and malcontents, especially after Andor demythologized the Empire's fascist oppression from the evil space wizards and Stormtroopers on your lunchbox to more banal and personal violence and violation.
