I actually think this one is fine, except the flames. The flames kind of make it less Imperial.

Okay, so to help contribute to this thread, here is the Rhinestone Tauboy:

His goal was to go for a "Pimp Tau" theme (his words), which kinda reflect in the purple the rest of his army was in:

The rest of his stuff was table-top quality, and not as bad as the above monstrosity. But to be fair, I did create these...things, to which I am not proud of (for some reason I used putty on everything):

Scratch built Penitent Engines using Sentinels (and putty, and a heavy flamer as the leg of the one on the right)!

Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture of one of the Flames of War players last weekend, who painted up his PIVs and StuGs covered in glossy dark red paint, the "blood" from them running over the Soviet hordes as the player described it. To be fair, he's like, thirteen or something. The guy all stoked about it and wanting to imitate his "style", just turned old enough to drink. So no historical diversity for this thread, yet.

That's why the one guy in my group who has any Warmahordes stuff doesn't play. It's kind of universal in that scene.

As an avid Warmachine/Hordes player, there are some that just won't paint but please don't make sweeping generalizations about a game you don't play.

My group of close Warmahordes players all strive to play everything painted, but having lives (and desiring quality rather than slapping colors on) means sometimes you have some metal/plastic mixed in with the painted models.

Would I say Warmahordes leans more towards the gameplay than the modeling side of things? Yes. But the modeling/storytelling is still a huge part of the game.

by LITERALLY AN ADMIN

drat you for beating me to this! The thread full of people defending this army on Dakka was astounding to me. It's not only Brony poo poo, but also incredibly lazy. The bases are just flat green and no flock, with a pre-painted figs on top. Zero effort and a lovely theme rolled into one.

I'm trying to find it, but there was an equally lovely 40K army from a year or two ago. Used a lot of fish tank ornaments as stand-ins for Eldar jetbikes, right after the new book dropped and everyone realized that bikes were incredibly good. Not as "I own a van and an ether rag" as the MLP army, but just as lazy. Can't find a link to it now, of course.

Chill la Chill posted:

Hunh? Those aren't painted by anyone but some developing world wage slave working for Hasbro. Even inking them might have helped, but that would have the army require a little more work than a troll army like this deserves.

I kinda want to know the story behind how this came to be. I mean, if it's a case of the guy having a young daughter that wanted to learn to play the game but wanted to play with the ponies, that's actually kind of sweet.

If it's a bronie inflicting his "love" of MLP on people, he should die in a fire.

So did he die in a fire shortly after, or...

Seriously, that's just sad attention-whoring at that point. Did he steal the ponies from his daughter to make it (I ask knowing full well that the person in question will never touch a woman and will only masturbate furiously to MLP porn)?

This reminds me, one of the guys at my gaming club is a brony, and when one of the older (late 30s/early 40s) MTG players heard about it he called out to him "My Little Pony? You mean the poo poo my 2 year old daughter watches?".
The look of shame on the brony's face was absolutely priceless.

Why does it seem like so many 40K players attempt to bake their armies? I've never gone to a Warmachine tournament and had anybody try to field croissants of Menoth against me.

No. Imagine a small coconut with a Tyranid head and tiny legs. No modeling fleshy sacs or gaunts coming out of them. Of course unpainted (the plastic bits were badly stripped too IIRC). It looked like someone started with some conversion idea, but gave up halfway through and said "gently caress it, it's good enough for a proxy".
