Yeah, the tragedy of Kingdom Death is how much genuine talent is being wasted on this wank-fantasy horseshit.

Interesting that MWG cut and ran, then. Did the sheer scale of the fallout make them panic?

It looked to me like the guy is in the middle of a "dynamic pose" as he leaps backwards, and the sword really is falling from his hand as he fires his gun.

There is a surprising amount of inspiration going on in this unspiration thread.

The "un" in unspiration around here is less "augh I quit painting forever!" and more "I shall RISE ABOVE THIS CRAP!"

I got really stoked to paint and assemble and convert after the Kingdom Death stuff, because I wanted to prove I was better than that horseshit.

^^^^^^ That civil war thing is horrifying. It's a perfect Thing-style "hideous shapeshifter revealing it was your comrade all along" pose.

That's what the painter was going for...right? Right?

I always get shocked that people have $700 to spend on getting stuff painted!

I know! Even if that's in your budget for plastic mans, that's $700 worth of more stuff you're throwing away!

I can juuuuust about understand a mentality that sees the army as a tool for playing the game/socialising, and doesn't have the time (or want to spend the time) to assemble and paint. I guess? For me, the assembly is a huge part of the experience of purchasing the model, and as I've gotten better at painting I've come to see that as part of the fun too. The idea of subcontracting that out...never!

Ah, that'll be Frothers (the "F" in FU-UK). A bunch of angry British wargamers with a scathing attitude to life, the universe, and everything - and a particular hatred of sculptors who always do figures with one foot standing on a rock.

Buckle up. You gentlemen are in for a wild, wild ride.

Could see how it would be really cool concept like Orktimus Prime.

The problem is that the first eighteen prototypes were destroyed by infighting during the transformation process. Attempt number 19 used an all-grot crew except for one ork in the head, but there are still issues with "accidental" mid-battle facepunchings.

I'm convinced that someday a movie studio's legal team is going to stumble across Crooked Dice and that will be what does for the company.

Or they get handed a licence because their minis are cool.

For a while they held the licence for Dr Who.

Crooked Dice used to be two people, who parted company sometime around the end of the 7TV 1st Edition product cycle. 7TV 1st Ed had a lot of 70s and 80s TV show references through it, from show parodies to actor likenesses to set and vehicle designs. It was great! Their sourcebooks were done in the style of old 70s show annuals, with cutaways and everything. But it was sailing very close to the wind.

When they split, the guy who left took a lot of the harder-to-defend sculpts with him. 7TV 2nd Ed notably toned down the copyrighted stuff and shifted stances. Lately they've started to creep back to the original levels of filing off serial numbers from 70s and 80s TV settings. Sometimes they even DO get a licence, like their recent Ghostbusters and Scooby Doo lines!
